  2. Marcarl and Starfan.... OMG..! Do I have to separate you guys already, The rally hasn't even begun yet.... Marcarl, remember Jonas is bringing his boyfriend (not that there is anything wrong with that) and maybe....just maybe... he (Jonas) wants to show Kristjian the finer side of Yorkshire NY.... Now with that said, just be happy for Jonas and his new bow....It take all types in this world and we should be more tolerant of the oddballs in it.......errrr ........I mean tolerant of the life decisions of some.. With that said, at least you wont have to listen to all that strange noise coming from the next room.... After the last visit to my home two years , I think Jonas is afraid of the dark because I would often find him asleep in Kristjians bed the morning even though they had separate rooms... I really do think Jonas is not as manly a viking as he wants us all to believe. just saying..........P.S. I knew where he was staying this year...

Sorry Tom but you are walking in mud here.

Kristjan is not my type. To much of a puppy.

You on the other hand,,,,,,,,,,Just cancelled the hotel - I´m sleeping in your camper !!!!!!!:bighug::banana::bighug::banana:

  3. Seems to me that you have 'upgraded'. What else have you done that you have failed to inform us about? Is this meant to be a tactical change? a change for the better? a new way of hiding from those who should know? or just a way of playing hard to get?

I would think that 2 foreign emissaries being presented in a country foreign to their own, should be allowed a bit bit of diplomatic aggression in regards to their own foreignation, and not to be interfered with by a third party who has little experience in the dealings of international protocol and espionage or even in the consumption or wobbly pop or tippy heat. There is a real reason why gentlemen of great renown have moved their secret location to another place of slumber, but now that the cat is out of the bag on the location, the reason will remain on the vaults of the unknown legacy. Never will that be disclosed or even further discussed.

On a further note, and trying not to be long winded as some like me to be, I would suggest that your attendance at this place of meeting, BS stories, hugging event, and low level intelligence would greatly improve your outlook on life that is here to live. Many have been those who have made the journey, many more wished that they had put it on their calendar so that they would not have forgot, and then there are those who have looked back at history in the making and said: I didn't think that this was going to be such a momentous international event, how did I manage to miss out on this fiasco.

As in the words of somebody who is trying to make himself famous, really famous!: this is going to be a great event, a really great event, a truly great event.

    Marcarl my friend.

Are you eating mushrooms again ?

  4. The WNY Rally is just around the corner. Me and Kristjan The Silent Viking can´t wait to be there. Two weeks to go. You do not want to miss this one. Seems like this is gonna be a record breaking attendance. Band on the stage Saturday night, lot af rides and activities, dining at Chandersons, breakfast at the country Maple Restaurant

(forgotten the name but the food is humongus)

, Barbeque night and last but not least GREAT company. The word on the street is that Kristjan The Silent Viking is gonna do a pole dance :shock3::shock3::shock3::shock3:. Sign up and BE THERE OR BE LAME !!!!!!!!!!! Looking so much forward to see you all !!!!

  5. If anyone has any suggestions for the rally , please contact me or a committee member....

Kristjan The Silent Viking just called me and wanted to know if you could arrange a Belly Dancer and a Tattoo Artist. I told him it´s not gonna happen but he is very insisting. The guy has no boundaries you know. Please give him a call and set him straight. I will PM you his phone number.

    Your best friend Jonas

  6. Bought a Millenium 2000 Venture about 4 years ago in the States without seeing it and my good Buddy Craig (cecdoo) went and picked it up for me and kept it in his garage for 4 years - What a friend. Last fall when I was in the US I stayed for some days at Craig´s and Kim´s lovely home in PA and with the help of Craig we took the bike half way up to Main to a transporter that delivered it to the shipping yard for the voyage to Iceland. Will never forget when I walked into Craig´s garage and laid my eyes on the bike for the first time - and said to Craig: Did I actually buy this heap of Cr,,, Craig ?? His answer was simple: YES you did. I have been thinking of selling it for spare parts but I actually think it will shine up pretty nice !

Well to make a long story short the bike arrived in Iceland mid October 2017 and I took it to my workshop and started looking at what needed to be done - man that list was long:

    1. Badly leaking Valve cover gaskets: Adjust valves and replace gaskets, clean the carbs and adjust floats, carbtune. Replace and relocate the fuel filter. Replace air filters. Replace oil filter.

    2. Looking like it had never been serviced: Change ALL and EVERY fluid. Back and front brakes, clutch, rear drive, fork oil and cooling liquid. change all brake pads and install speed Bleeders for brakes and clutch.

    3. Electrical wiring was shady to say the least: Go over all the wiring harness, solder dubious connections, add relays, change connectors and prevent the harness to catch fire (there was a real danger of that), do the ignition ByPass, part out added shabby fuse box, rewire heated grips, horns and driving lights. Rewire the whole horn harness.

    4. Service all greasing points: Tear off the rear end and go over the drive mechanism, grease the splines and drive shaft. Remove swing arm and pack bearings. Remove shock, dog bones and the chunk that holds the spring in place, clean and grease everything up.

    5. The body work: Replace lower left front fairing and repaint both fairings. Repaint the trunk lid because of cracks in clear coat. Replace some of plastic covers in lower front fairings. Paint all black plastic in the Pearl white color of the bike as well as the steel cover for the rear brake resorvoir.

    6. Replace both engine guards: Both engine guards proved to be bent beyond repair so both had to be replaced.

    7. Cleaning: Degrease all and every part of bike, frame, engine, body you name it - the whole bike under and over. Buff chrome and other parts with rubbing compound. Polish everything to a high gloss shine. Buff heads of rusted bolts to chrome shine. Remove and buff front wheel covers and tripple tree. Replace fork covers with some chromed ones.

    8. Seats: They looked like dark brown and had to be thouroughly cleaned. Patched the driver seat and cleaned the others. Came out almost like new.

And the list goes on and on,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Well I am almost done - The last thing needed is adjusting the valves and replacing the valve cover gaskets. Install the carbs and the rest of the bike and she hopefully will fire right up and be ready to go,,,,,to a new owner !!

Here are some pictures from the process - Craig was right - She is beginning to look pretty nice :) Would not be here if not for Craigs patience and help. Best bike keeper ever :o

  7. Got my venture from a website: https://www.crashedtoys.com/

It had been rolled and a lot of the plastic was smashed. But since I planned to strip it down, I really didn't care much about the plastic bits. In the end, quite a few of them were ok and I sold them online. My venture proved to be a very fast bike which I've been riding for quite a few years. Some of the guys in the Slimey Cruds motorcycle gang liked it so much they asked me to join their bunch.

Gonna head out to drink beer with them tonight.

    zag

Geeezzz,,,,That Venture in the video is ONE SERIOUS BIKE to say the least :) Really like the intimidating look of it !!! What a great job you have done !!!

  8. GOT THAT RIGHT

So far I have an electric tricycle that Birdie and I gotta repair for him to ride when gets two... Then I got a little lawn mower engine mini bike for em when he turns 4, then I have a Honda CT70H (4 speed w/ clutch) for em when he turns 5 and I have an 01 Kawasaki 100 with 400 miles on it sitting down there for his 8th birthday.... Gotta plan ahead you know!!!

    Hey Puc !

Want to adopt me ! I am open minded on the issue :)

  9. Here's something that I can't figure out about my new (to me) Venture...

The horn button works intermittently, the start button works intermittently. The cruise control almost NEVER lets me set it after turning the main switch on. The headlights go from bright, to dim, back to bright again. The tail light does the same. All regardless of RPM's.

I find it hard to believe that EVERY one of these issues are separate and unrelated.

I definitely plan on cleaning every connector I can get my hands on.

But what would make all the switches on the handlebars so sketchy?

And what would cause the power to the lights fluctuate so much??

If y'all could give me a list of things to check, I would love to try to trouble-shoot some, if not all, of these issues.

    Thank you!

My suggestion would be taking the seat off, gas tank and front part of front fairing. First check battery connections and make sure they are solid. Work your way to the front of the bike and check every ground connection you can find and make sure there is no paint under them and tighten up good. Clean all connectors / plugs. Check if the previous owner has added any extra electrical accessories and go through all connections he has done. Solder and shrink tube all added wires if not done and get rid off any thieves.

Regarding the headlight going dim /bright, then I had that issue on my 98 Tour Classic. Turned out it was the bulb - see old thread: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?74172-Flickering-headlights

I would also do ther Ignition By Pass - there are detailed instructions in the technical library http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?75398-By-passing-the-Ignition-switch.

    Wish you luck.

  10.

The only thing I would do different is to have the fuse between the relay and the battery instead of after the relay. With the fuse after the relay, you have unprotected components and wires. Fuse should always be the first thing the power goes through.

Therre is also a fuse between the battery and the realy as my PDF. drawing shows. My main interest was to prevent the battery from going dead if grips were accidentally left on after turning off the ignition.

  11. I thank everyone on this forum for all the good advice before buying this Venture. I'm very happy with the purchase. It was a 50 mile ride home, mostly highway. So I got a good feel for it today.

    Red 2000 Venture.jpg

For some unexplained reason I REALLY like the color of this bike :)

  12. So can someone tell me what size of resistor? And why? I would think the grips would have some kind of controller to limit the power.

The grips do not come with a variable heat controller but Hot Grips mfg. do offer a variable heat controller as an option - Mine are without the controller and have a toggle switch with three options:

    1. Low Heat

    2. OFF

    3. High Heat

    The resistor is a 2,4 OHM / 25W.

Now lets see if those babies will heat up and if the Low and High settings are working after I finish installing today - I´ll keep you posted :)

    Be safe,

    Jonas aka StarFan

  13. Thank you Brian.

Your help has set me all clear :) I will connect this tomorrow and then I will finally be all finished with all the crappy wiring on this bike. Not much of an electric guy even though I usually get through it - but not this one - Had no idea how to do this.

Again thank you so much for the help/info.

    Be safe, Jonas aka StarFan

  14. The Relay

30 to battery, add a fuse

87 to power your heated grips

    85 ground

86 12v power from a source that is only on when the ignition is on like parking lights

    Thanks so much Brian.

Just to be sure, here is a diagram based on your info - Would this be the correct way, and will this work in that way that the grips cannot turn on unless the ignition is on - meaning that there is no danger of draining battery if Grip Switch is on and bike parked ? Was also wondering if it matters if the 87 goes on Low or High side of the restrictor ??

    Heated Grips Relay Wiring.jpg

  15. Greetings fellow members.

Am rebuilding a MM 2000 Venture here in Iceland. It had a very crappy wiring to all the added goodies and I am in the process of rewiring most of it and adding Ignition bypass and so forth. So far I have fixed and soldered everything except for the Heated Grips. The bike has heated Grips but no relay for them. I would be much more comfortable with having a relay but am kind of lost in how to hook it up. Here below is a wiring diagram from the producer of the grips but without the relay that I have added to the diagram. Could someone enlighten me on how to hook this up with a relay ? It would be very much appreciated if someone could show a wiring diagram with the relay added.

    Thanks onb forehand,

  16. Greetings Stu and welcome aboard.

If the salvage company Puc pointed out will not have what you need then you should check eBay on regular basis. About a three years ago I needed both lower fairings for a MM 2000 model Venture. Took me three months to find them on eBay - got one with the right color and one blue. The blue one was brand new and the one with the right color was used but in excellent shape. Got both for a total of somewhere around 300 US$. Just be patient if you go the eBay route - they will turn up for sale eventually. Just be careful not to buy seriously banged up ones. Try to get some in good shape - my experience is that the price different is minimal between bad ones and good ones. My experience with Pinwall is that they are pretty pricey on used parts and they are often in bad shape. Have burned myself a couple of times shopping with them but have also gotten very nice parts from them. So be picky before deciding on a purchase.

Wish you luck and will shoot you a Private Message if I see one available on the web.

  17. Jonas I have a friend that lives about a mile from me that has a Goldwing trike for sale on Craigslist. The CSC trikes that had a problem with drive shafts had the solid axel. My friends trike has independent suspension and has not had any problem with it. Like I said he has it on Craigslist and the trailer with it. I do not know what you plan to spend. If you look on the list it is the only burgundy one with an eagle on the front fairing.

Thanks - but I cannot find this anywhere under West Virginia. Would you have a link or a city where it is listed ?

    Friendly regards, Jonas / StarFan

  18. I have a Clymer that is only for the Second Gen Venture. First edition 2003.

CORRECTION: Has a picture of the Venture on the front but when I turned the pages it seems to be for both the Royal Stars from 1996 as well as the Venture. Also says on the front cover: Yamaha Royal Star. 1996 - 2003. Inside the cover on the foirst page: First Print 2003.
