    So did this come out OK?

     

    Sorry for a lack of an update guys and gals.. Took the test, and all is good... False alarm.. Negative results, and a big sigh or relief... Had a monster case of the summer time strep throat... Lasted for about 4 days and Kermit and I were becoming good friends... Now he doesn't want anything to do with me... Many thanks for all the feedback and good wishes...:thumbsup2:

    Still wondering though if anyone has ever had a high output voltage like that and it indicated something else to look at???

     

    Jeff, where can I get a good meter to attach to the bike, do you have something like MonsterBiker? Or MonsterBiker, where did you get yours?

     

    I just bought the new multimeter and will check it out today...

    Generally if you're showing over voltage it's the rectifier.... or the connections... Had a similar situation right before leaving on a trip to Cody Wy. from the west coast... Show'd 17vdc but didn't have time to deal with it. Volts were there but no amps. You shouldn't show more than 13.4 vols with the batt fully charged and 14.2 when the batt's a little low. It took 3 days before the battery went dead. And luckily across the street from a Southern Auto... Bought a fresh battery and went the final 80 miles to Cody. Changed out the rectifier at the motel and didn't have a problem on the trip back. The rectifier is kinda sorta easy to get to. Right under the radiator inside the frame. Two 10mm bolts hold it in.

    LOL I find it funny those of us that chose to ride something else can pick them out in a huge crowded deal like this. I saw a news clip the other night and they were going on about one of the largest gathering of HD motorcycles. Shows a clip of folks riding some twisties and a Nuclear Sunset (orange) and Antifreeze green Vics go sporting by. The angular design still stands out in a crowd. When we are traveling I can almost always pick out a RSV.

     

    I still have trouble picking an RSV out of a crowd. They just don't stand out that much different then any other baggers out there. The one thing that does catch my attention are the eyebrows. If it weren't for the fact that they panned a full broadside of one parked on the street in Sturgis I probably would have missed it too. Check out 2:26 on the video... No doubt about that one... :photographing:

    I am with you 100% EC but since my 45 shooter is the 5 inch GI which I find a little bulky for a CCW,, I would probably just default to my drum fed AR12 12 gauge and take advantage of Michigans open carry laws. :big-grin-emoticon:

     

    That thing looks bad ass... Imagine what it would be like to pull the trigger and the interrupt sear broke... FULL AUTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    You know that little green arrow that appears in front of an older post that lets you know you have added your opinion at one time of the other?? On some of the ancient posts like 'what did you do to your venture today' if you hoover over the arrow it will tell you how many posts you've added over the years... I had no idea I was that wordy on a few of them... :-) And I already knew this, but maybe a newbe doesn't, but the black arrow that shows who posted last is a link to that post, and you don't have to wade thru hundreds of posts to see what's new. :think:

    This is a bike and the lift is mounted in my truck. With the Rampage, the front end needs to be strapped to the wheel chock while being pulled into the truck.

     

    Got it... Backing a bike out of a truck bed down a ramp would scare the hell out of me. Down a trailer gate ramp... A piece of cake...

    The catch here is the everyday carry. I don't carry, but if I had to, two would come out the safe... OK bedstand... :-) My S&W 5904 9 mm/14 rnd... and if I really wanted to get sneaky I'd pack my S&W 60-14 rnd butt 3" snub in 357/38 5 shot w/a Crimson Trace grip.

    OK I'm a little confused here. Happens regularly. :confused07: But are you mounting the lift in a pickup bed or a trailer??? And are you loading a 2 wheel or a trike??? IF it's a trike into a truck bed I can see an big advantage. If it's a trike into a trailer it's a waste of money.:mo money:. However on the compression issue the bike/trike front tire is already secured to the rampage when loading somehow, that should be enough since the front wheel is already in a chock configuration. I guess I need more info.??

    I just received a very nice 3 piece Mustang seat for an RSTD. I had no idea the RSTD and RSV seats would have completely different mounting methods!

     

    Is there any chance the RSTD seat can be modified to fit the RSV?

     

    I recall from the past that a few members had McGuivered an installation.

    Can't remember which way the swap went?? RSV to RSTD or RSTD to RSV???

    Update #2 So taking everyone's advise I went and had the covid test this morning and should get the results in a couple days. Temp was 98.6 this am but still had a crappy nights sleep. Finally had to go out to the recliner... Seems like every time I take a drink of water it starts running out my nose... Never had that happen before??

    Has any one ever moved the forks up through the steering head ...Up high enough to install the air fittings above the triple tree on a 1983 XVZ1200[/QUOTe]

     

    they used to sell an equalizer kit that fit in the top cap. for some reason they stopped making them, or the company went out of biz?

    it basically had Schroeder valves tapped into the cap.

    Just an update. I called Kaiser and a doc will call me in the AM to schedule a Covid test. It seems due to age I'm in the at risk group and currenly that"s the only people they're testing. :thumbsup2:

    Gear shift spring return

    I got to it and the springs were actually in place and good. When I got the clutch cover off, the shifter worked normally. Re-installed and it was working until I tightened the clutch cover. And the end of the shift shaft has friction marks from rubbing on the cover. (pictured) Doesn't seem to be bent/warped. Just too long.

     

     

    I wonder if you have the right cover on the clutch?? a 1200 cover isn't as deep as the 1300

    A month ago is an eternity with this monster. You hear about Herman Cain? Not to scare you but a month ago he tested negative too and today he is gone, truth matters... Get my point? GO TO THE DOCTOR or at least meander thru one of the clinics and get tested my friend!! If you cant find a drive up testing area, pull into U.C. Davis's ER and read to them what you wrote above,, I am almost positive they will want to do another test.. Do it Jack,, just do it.. Get er done!!!!!!!

     

    My HMO Kaiser has a drive thru set up... Think I'll give them a call...

    I am a fan of toothpicks. I agree, steel wool maybe in a pinch, but will rust with just the humidity where I live.

    Tooth picks might be a better choice.... Steel wool will rust over time and mess every thing up...

    Another suggestion would be to pick up a Bondic Kit. On the threads just layer in some of the plastic and hit it with the supplied UV light and in 4 seconds it's hard as a rock... You can tap it or if it's thin enought let the screw form the threads.. One thing I might add is it won't work joining a piece of plastic unless there a gap between the pieces. So cosmetically then it's a chemical weld...

    I absolutely hate the speedo on the RSV's, and got to thinking I had an old GPS that gave MPH on a little side screen and it was very accurate. So I did a Google on GPS MPH and WOW!! things have evolved. There's a ton of choices for just plain old Speedo's You might want to check them out. And the price is right on most of them...

     

    MOF I'm thinking about picking one up for my Four Winns boat. Right now it's got one of the water pressure attachments on the transom and there's no way it is accurate. Some 3 3/8" units will slip right into the opening on the dash. And even have an ODO. They even have an App for your cell phone....

    Cowpuc the temp is up to 101 but that just happened yesterday. Before that I generally get 97.1... cool customer. I have no trouble breathing. I took an online Covid test where they run you through all on the symptoms. The only one I checked was sore throat...and nose or uvula swelling. That gives me the frog thing. So this morning I took a Claritan and it reduced the swelling to almost zero. And just for the heck of it I just took my temp and it's 98.8. So it's coming down. Yesterday I felt like cr@p. Didn't get any sleep that night and then drove 80 miles to pick up a small Easy Loader boat trailer. Left at 7 and got back at 10. Then hit tthe recliner and slept the rest of the day. When I woke up I got the 101.4. So I'll still be super caucus, and if thing starts to come back the doc and I are going to become very friendly...

     

    PS: About a month ago I did get tested, and it was all neg... And yes I know a month ago amounts to a hill of beans...

    Gear shift spring return

    Question: What provides the "spring return" on the gear shift lever?

     

    I just replaced my engine and got it all back together. What a PITA, never wanna do that again!!! Anyway, I shift gears and the lever does not return. Its not jammed or anything, it easily moves back in place by pressing the other side of the shifter. Did I miss a spring or something when I put it back together?

    Here's my warped thinking...for what it's worth. The return lever pressure comes from the clutch pressure plate. It applies pressure to the slave, which in turn applies pressure to the hydraulic in the master, which in turn pushes back on the lever. When the lever is static there will always be a bit of play and literally zero pressure in the clutch system. My 2¢

    I just turned 79, have a sore throat, but only hurts when I swallow,....and I sound like a bull frog... Croak, and when I sing 'I'm a lonely frog" I sound great!! The truck sits in the drive way for days on end, and I when I do leave it's generally to a drive thru for lunch or dinner... I avoid all crowds.. Laryngitis or Covid?? Whatcha's think?? :sick:
