  1. There are several "quick fixes" to seized engines but imo a locked up power plant needs to be broken down at least to hone the cylinder (assuming the lock up is due to piston/rings) Though this sounds daunting and next to imposible to some (if not many) if you have a basic understanding of mechanics doing a basic rebuild is not that hard. 1 suggestion is video the dismantle. This video can be used as refrence if you get stuck or confused on putting it back together. Youtube is your friend. While I doubt there is a video "tearing down a 1986 yamaha venture engine" there are any number of videos on most all aspects of an engine from syncing carbs to shimming valves. Some work does require tools you do not have and are to expensive to buy. Find a local machine shop for things like trueing decks and boring cylinders (if they are badly damaged the up side would be bigger pistons/bigger displacement lol) If nothing else it can be an amazing learning experience. You currently got 2 yamaha boat anchors. Have some fun and play with them and you might end up with a serious power plant. Btw I knew nothing about engines and 2 years later teaching myself I built a 78hp kart racing engine if I can do it then it is far from rocket science
  2. Semper Fi and rest in peace brothers. The pearly gates has a new guard detachment. This bastard needs spitted over a low fire and slow roasted for killing bikers and American heros
  3. How about carbonfiber with a little color https://compositeenvisions.com/composite-reinforcement-fabrics/reflections-carbon-fiber/ You guys are killing me. As a tinkerer I will do crap just because it has never been done. Wife will kill me but carbon may be in my future now lol. Got an idea brewing for a slide panel to get in the underside also. Will do some sketching and get back to you (or maybe a hinged side? Crap you guys are bad for my wallet)
  4. Damn good catch. They going all out. I got the info from facebook advertising
  5. Here is one thing I am looking at https://www.wish.com/product/5b3c926b4eb5f63d288cd434
  6. Hello group. My name is Wrecit and I am a cheep ass. Ok now that the 12 step introduction is out of the way anyone ever look at wish.com for sparkly parts, electronics, ect for your bike? I know first impressions of wish is look at price and write it off as Chinese junk. Well you are not totally wrong. I been buying off wish for little over 3 years and have yet to find an item that I said wow amazing quality but have been pleasantly surprised several times. Have bought wood router bits, work gloves and even a hud system I put in my minivan. Been looking at bike stuff as well as led strip lighting for the bike and will probably try some of the stuff out. Just wondering if there were any other habitual cheap asses here
  7. They claim dot and ece approve. As far as distracting I wonder that also though I did get a hud display for my minivan a few years ago off wish.com. first few days it did take some of my attention but in short order it became a perifrial tool. I found myself seeing clear as usual but my brain was picking up the hud info without realizing it. Now the rear view movement may be diffrent but the actual area on the visor is probably only about 1x2 inch max for the hud
  8. Here is link to product video https://www.facebook.com/odditymall/videos/440663546698964/
  9. https://smarttechwd.com/products/e-helmet Kind of reminds me of Stringfellow Hawk and airwolf in looks and not sure I would trust the shell at that price but interesting concept. Wondering if you could buy it, gut it, and install components into a good helmet
  10. Here in Pittsburgh, pa we actually shorten varmints down to Jagoff. It essentially means the same thing (goofballs that we love lol)
  11. Grrr can not load the video from my phone for some reason. To support that I have a screw loose I am a union carpenter who specializes in building scaffold. The video shows the view from about 220 ft in the air standing on a 2 inch pipe. And no I do not usually harness off because tieing off tends to pull you off balance. I have fallen 3 times in the past 20 years and all 3 times because a hooked lanyard pulled me off balance.
  12. Ok amusement park kicked my butt yesterday. Got home and passed out but my daughter and grandbaby had a blast. Now to answer the questions posed
  13. Freebird I am sometimes in france, Israel, Philippines, ect. Not because I am actually there but because I am paranoid and use a vpn. Vpn's also help when surffing the dark web for plutonium
  14. Loving it guys. At kennywood park for union picnic just stoped to breath and you got me laughing will address my qualifications to be in the club tonight and you guys may be a little impressed (all 4 of my kids 25 20 20 13 could sing hotel California on key to just the music by age 5)
  15. Just became a paid member!!! You suckers are stuck with me and my crazy ideas now lol Hope to be the proud owner of a gen 1 1992 VR in 2 weeks and will be terrorizing the highways and byways and trying to make you guys proud
  16. Ok this project is a tenitive go but not in glass. Contacted my favorite kart racing body maker and he is only making his "super tough" bodies now (no more fiberglass) which are a plastic polymer. He informed me that he also does abs panels for other applications so for the purest VR riders you will be able to get virtually oem aftermarket bodies!!! Now it will be at least 2 months before I have the time to dedicate to making the forms and in the meantime I need a first gen rider that lives in the Indiana area to come on board. After I make the forms and ship them to his shop I would like someone out in Indiana willing to make a day trip to his shop so he can touch and feel actual oem panels. I am probably making a mistake in assuming so want to double check. The molds will be from a 1992 venture royal. Are all first gen panels innerchangable? (I do know early versions had smaller side boxes are there any other diffrences) also from experience where do we need to add more thickness/support/reinforcment? I am thinking about things like intergrating metal banding in the side pods that would allow for heavier load capacity and beefing up the windshield mounting area (possibly adding a 16 to 20 gage strip sandwiched in for ridgity) Also remember reading that it is better to not crank down on the screws holding the body on. Would it be benificial to move the mounting tabs in say 1/8 inch so you can mount with a rubber washer for a more secure fit? (Old racing trick lol) any other wish list items to make these panels 6 million dollar man (better, faster, stronger) As for sag when making the mold. I was thinking about that and that will be where my carpenter skills will enter the picture. I plan to make a metal/wood hybrid frame mock up (especially of the front end) to provide ridgity to insure the mold holds proper form. Now the odd news. I hope to get this bike in 2 weeks. I did recieve a text today from the guy. He is listing the bike for 1500 but made me the offer to take it for 1200. Going to beg the wife tonight for a 600 advance then offer the guy the 600 as a down payment with the balance to come in 2 weeks when the wife will let me have the money (I make the money but she controls the purse because I like to spend entirely to freely lol)
  17. Question about what carb to use in a single set up. Do you want to go bigger is better or would it be best to grab a carb off of a 1.3 liter engine (1.3L equalling aprox 1300 cc) Along that line would there be enough room on a VR to scavange an efi system off say a 2002 geo metro (they ran a 1.3L)
  18. Have been doing alot of reading and studying here in prep of beating my wife down and letting me pick up a 92 VR I am a tinkerer by nature and am looking forward to attacking the maintenance issues associated with a 30 year old sexy lady one item that has come up in several threads here is dealing with the 30 year old plastic that has held up well over the years but is still getting more brittle with age. Has anyone tried or even considered making fiberglass molds to make new glass body parts? I know part of the fun is comming up with new ways to patch holes and cracks in the abs but would there be a market for say new front farings and reinforced trunks (came across threads about windshield mounting cracking and a few comming off and trunks that the bottom cracks out) I could create molds from exsisting abs parts and know several people that make their money shooting racing kart bodies that definatly take more abuse than the average VR week in and week out. I will probably make personal use molds that I can hand lay but would it benifit the community at large to make more durable molds and find someone that could cost effectively simi mass produce new body parts that would stay true to these beautiful lines?
  19. I feel like an idiot. After posting came across that v's are on a stator. The 2 strokes we raced used stators so I am simi comfortable with them. Alternators are easier but when in rome. Where can you get the higher output units. Also would there be any real advantage to forking out the 200 for a lith deep cycle battery (the bike needs a battery upgrade anyway)
  20. side question if anyone reads this is there a bolt on upgrade for the gen1 (92) alternator or would that be a night or 2 in the machine shop project (you can never have enough power)
  21. My "what the hell are we going to do today" tool box goes about 140 lbs though I have several soft side bags for framing, drywall, scaffold, trim, hardware, ect that are much more manageable. The table saws, compressors and most electric are company supplied (love collective bargining lol) As to your comments about engine moding I am sure I will HAVE to eventually crack the case open and play with it but I am getting old in my old age and speed and running through rubber no longer sound fun. Hell I am looking for quiet pipes. If I wanted rumble I would just get a hd (aside from the v rod they have not impressed me since before amc) Now stereo that I can listen to my talk radio would be nice. Lit up like a christmas tree is cool. Built in massage seat maybe? Touch screen digital dash that does total diagnostic and control radio and cb with bluetooth. Voice control to include gps might be out there. One of the first mods that should be fairly easy will be custom arm rests for the rear (welding and sewing are some of my side intrests) wondering if quad tillys sticking out the sides would look cool (tillys are so easy to set up and maintain. We actualy put 4 of them on a pinto pony a few years back to see if we could do it and it would actually break the tires free which is saying somthing for those death traps lol will have to play with the venture carbs to see how I like them)
  22. Btw by mod I do not mean I am going to do any major port or alchy conversion (though that might be cool to make a 1/4 mile smasher venture lol) I am intending to use my venture as a big city daily driver (I know the real intent for the venture is the open road and long trips but as a union carpenter I need a bike with the ability to transport work tools saftey equiptment ect and a road cruisers boxes would make this posible) Pureists will probably hate my bike when done but it will be able to cruise in a pack and from road speed blend right into the pack
  23. Hey Patch to answer the main question this bike does not need efi. Some on here have discussed it and I thought it might be an option. As I said I use to race karts with UAS. That class is a dream it up and race it class (have a buddy that ran a gas leaf blower for forced air induction) I have played with the posted kit and had good bench results with dyno numbers that were off the charts with the maping capability. I am to dumb to know what can't be done I guess lol. With a little luck I will be picking up my first venture (92) in a week or 2 and my tinkering mind is already racing to see what imposible things I can do to it. This will all be top secret till I make some progress however but if it works it will be a serious mod bike hidden behind the beautiful first gen lines.
  24. What???? You guys don't throw your berrings in the freezer first? If you have access to some liquid nitrogen it makes the prosess even quicker. Get em cold enough and they will drop right in.
  25. Ok first a little back ground. I use to race go karts with the Unlimited All-Stars. It is a national open engine mods class with 2 strokes up to 270cc and 4 strokes up to 510cc. We did some extreme crap getting sometimes 80 plus hp on alcohol. One thing that some guys played with is an efi system found at this link ecotrons.com(slash)small_engine_fuel_injection_kit/ sorry my post count is not high enough to post links hope you can decode the address A venture though being 1300cc is really just 4 300 some cc engines joined together. My thought is could a kit like this with 3 extra throttle bodies and some other added parts be modded to run on a venture. Thought I would throw this kit out there to see what you guys thought (I had one of these kits on a 450 that I played with on the bench but never got serious and bolted it on the track so my experience is limited)
