  1. I have a 2005 RSTD and a few of the LED bulbs burnt out, was wanting to replace the board, I take the link below is the one I need? I notice it has a bulb base to plug into the socket but it appears someone cut it out and spliced the wires instead, guess I will have to cut the old one off and splice and solder in the new one? Didn't know they were so expensive either. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-XVZ1300CT-Royal-Star-Tour-Deluxe-2005-2009-LED-Taillight-2010-0819-/361351162493?hash=item5422352a7d&vxp=mtr&rmvSB=true#ht_3761wt_869
  2. Well I repaired the radiator cover and decided to spray it with bedliner to protect it from rocks etc, turned out pretty good, now lets see how it holds up to rocks etc.
  3. Earl: It just started yesterday and the temps have been the same all summer in the morning and it has never happened before, guess I will try 10W40 next oil change if it persists, but will try pumping the clutch first thing when I start it up to see if that solves it.
  4. Cowpuc: Thanks for the reply I changed the clutch fluid about a month ago and everything has been working great until yesterday and the oil was changed about the same time with Amsoil 20W40, just strange that it just started to do that plus hear a clunk as I am engaging the clutch before it shimmies then grabs and go then after that issue is gone, temps in the morning are pretty much the same as they have been all summer in the lower to upper 70's, this issue may be nothing but all I know is, it wasn't doing it a couple of days ago, I will try pumping the clutch lever a few times before starting off to see if that helps as you suggested.
  5. Not sure if this is anything but I have owned my RSTD for 3 months now it has 19,000 miles and for the first time yesterday and today after the bike has been sitting all night in the garage, I start it up the next morning (Temp 78F) and roll out of the driveway then when I put it in gear and let out the clutch it kind of bucks like the clutch is slipping and I hear a clunk then as the clutch catches I take off and from then on everything seems fine and it can sit for a few hours and then when I start it up everything is good the rest of the day, its just been in the morning when first starting out, it has never done this before until the last couple of days......any thoughts?....Thanks
  6. It appears the Yamaha shop damaged the radiator cover when having it serviced to where 2 of the bolts broke off along with a big chunk of fiberglass, guess its time to get out the JB weld and repair and paint the cover
  7. Thanks for the info, appears to be the one I have, was it secured with zip ties?......Thanks
  8. Was wondering if the 2005 RSTD came stock with a radiator cover or was that just an add on? Mine has a radiator cover which looks stock but it appears to be zip tied onto the bike so I am thinking its not stock, its painted black and appears to be made of fiber glass.
  9. ok got the stock filters and airbox covers installed and she is running great! Now I am ready to leave on my trip from Dallas to Banff/Jasper on Saturday, it will be a 3 week run and a good test for the new bike.
  10. I think the engine will live longer with the stock filters, the K&N's in my opinion are for performance more air flow and in my opinion more dirt into the engine so am going to put it back the way it was engineered.
  11. I think I'm just getting peranoid before my first big trip on the new bike, Texas to banff/jasper
  12. I have noticed that I am smelling gas after riding, not bad and don't see any leaks, also appear my fuel consumption is up its an 05 RSTD any thoughts? Currently have the k&n filters and the chrome covers
  13. There was a pretty big clump on the magnet, but I figured if the original owner and the other owners after him never changed the final drive gear oil then its probably due to the breakin period that most the the shavings were produced. I am about to go on a 5,000+ mile trip on the bike from Dallas Texas up to Banff/Jasper Canada, so far I have only put about 800 miles on the bike since i bought it about a month ago just wanting to make sure i don't get stranded somewhere.
  14. trike conversion takeoff? Pumpkin? I take there is an issue with the final gear on theses bikes? What other issue can I expect/look for on a 05 RSTSD....Thanks (1) Final gear? (2) Fuel pump? (3) Clutch noise ? ?
  15. Changed the final drive gear oil on my 05 RSTD that I had just bought a few weeks ago and I don't think it has ever been changed from the looks it and the magnetic drain plug had a bunch of metal shavings on it, my question is that is it normal say if it had never been changed since new? I know it calls for it to be changed after the bikes first 600 miles it currently has 12,500 miles on it, and the bike does have that wonderful Yamaha Whine when going down the road as far as I can tell I'm the 4th owner of the bike.
  16. Thank you sir! Just ordered the parts needed, will install before my trip from Texas to Banff/Jasper Canada next week.
  17. How easy is it to go back to the stock setup? Do I just need to buy the original plastic airbox lids and replace the chrome ones with the stock and then just put the stock filters back in?
  18. Thanks everyone! I will not worry about the filters, also realized the higher in altitude I go the richer it will run, less air more gas, for some reason I was thinking the other way around.
  19. If you already have this setup with the chrome covers and K&N filters ,can you replace the K&N filters with the stock paper filters? Why was it required to change to K&N filters if you bought the chrome covers? Just bought my bike and it already had this setup installed with the K&N filters was wanting to convert back to stock filters but would like to keep the chrome covers installed if possible.
  20. The bike has those billet aluminum chrome air box covers with the Yamaha logo not sure how different they are from the stock air box setup, as far as the valves go the bike currently has about 12,500 miles on it and not sure if it was ever done, from what I have read about the valves was thinking I could wait until about 50,000 to 60,000 miles and have them checked at that time.
  21. Should you rejet a 2005 Royal Star Tour deluxe that has K&N Filters? Just purchased an 05 Royal Star and found out someone had installed K&N filters, and I am about to go on a 5,000 mile trip from Texas to Jasper/Banff Canada and will be riding at high altitudes here and there, 11,000 ft elevations along the way, don't know if the bike was ever rejetted yet it appears to be running very well with stock exhaust, just curious whether rejet is in order....any thoughts?....Thanks
