  1. I am selling my Venture Royal. It needs a starter clutch and I don't have the time (and skills) to do it. Other than the starter clutch issue, bike was running good. Both tires fairly new and battery replaced a year ago. I am in the Annapolis, Maryland area. $400
  2. Thanks Dano. Sent you an email.
  3. Earl, I need to replace the starter clutch on my 1991 venture. Do you still offer the upgraded starter clutch?
  4. Finally success!!! I was able to bleed the clutch and finally able to take the bike for a spin around the block. I never thought changing the tires would take me this long but I learned a great deal about the bike in the process. Thanks to everyone for all the help.
  5. Marcari, just saw your message to bleed it. What is the process to bleed it?
  6. The glass is a little cloudy but it looks like the fluid is low. As a check, I looked at the glass for the front brake and I can see the level move when I turn the handlebars. So tomorrow I will put some brake fluid in there. When you say clean it out like I am sanitizing, should I try to get out any existing fluid before adding fresh brake fluid?
  7. It seems like there is no play in the clutch lever. The lever touches the handlebar with no pressure whatsoever. It's almost like I am shifting without pulling in the clutch.
  8. Just confirmed that kick stand is up and light goes off when I put kick stand up. Shuts off immediately after putting it in gear.
  9. Well, I found the spacer (mechanic found it and set it aside for me). With the spacer in place, got the wheel on and rolling freely. But now I have a new problem. When I go put the bike in gear, it cuts off. It seems that my clutch cable is out of adjustment. I have to have it fully in just to start it. Did I somehow get it out of adjustment during the wheel removal/installation process?
  10. I checked my garage and the back of my truck for the missing spacer. No luck. Went over to the shop that replaced the tires for me and the shop is closed this week with the owner on vacation. Since it's been so long (over two months) from when I had the tires replaced, I am doubtful the spacer is there. So, I ordered the spacer from a dealer. The dealer told me it would arrive in 4-5 business days. Hopefully I ordered the right part. (90387-200J2-00 COLLAR) Thanks to everyone for all the guidance and help so far.
  11. Here are some pictures. I actually added a couple of washers in this picture just to see if it would help.
  12. I went back and took off front wheel and then rear wheel. Replaced everything, making sure to put spacer in correct spot and wheel still does not move freely. It seems almost as if the brakes are on. Spencer, the amount of axle shown in your picture is when everything is torqued to specifications? My axle goes in past the holes in the axle.
  13. Happy 4th to all. Finally got some time to get back to putting on my wheels. I got everything back on, started it up and the bike would not move. My guess is I screwed up something with the brakes. Any ideas or suggestions before I start taking the wheels off again?
  14. Well I finally got some time to work on the bike. Using all the useful information posted, I was able to get both wheels off. I don't know why I was so worried about not having enough clearance. Once I removed the from wheel, the rear wheel was way up in the air. I had some difficulty removing the cotter pin but ultimately was able to get it out. Also had some difficulty getting enough leverage and clearance to remove the final drive bolts. Tomorrow, a shop will mount and balance my new tires. Attached are some pictures. I am sure I will back asking questions when I am reinstalling the wheels. Thanks for all the good advice. I would not have gotten this far without it.
  15. I am having trouble getting the center stand onto my 2 X 4. Any suggestions?
  16. Thanks Squidley. Someone mentioned making sure I tie the bike down good. Am I tying it down to anything in particular? Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to make sure I'm not missing anything.
  17. When referring to a jack adapter, is an adapter needed when using a jack specifically designed for motorcycles? I have the one pictured at the start of this thread. Also, I have the 1991 Venture. I believe that is referred to as MK1???
  18. Correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that the Elite 4 and the Shinko 777 are both bias tires.
  19. Thanks to everyone for the advice. I will be attempting this project this weekend. I am sure I will have lots of questions as I go through the process.
  20. It's time for some new tires. I purchased the Shinko 777 for the rear, and the Elite 4 for the front. My plan is to take the wheels off the bike and have bike shop replace the tires. My question is what is the level of difficulty in removing the wheels? I have the attached jack.
  21. I figured out the cause of my backfire. I was just warming up the bike with the choke fully on. I let it run that way for a few minutes and then cut it off. After cutting it off it backfired. Today, I realized that I had not been disengaging the choke and so after a minute or so, I reduced the choke and let it run at a lower rpm. When I cut it off, no backfire. I was actually able to take the bike for a short ride today with no problems. However, can someone show me a picture and describe how to put the rubber pull tab on the side panels? I read the section in the service manual but still can't quite figure it out.
  22. Thanks to everyone for your help and patience. It was in fact the hose that connects to the rubber boot around the fuel tank filler neck. Here's the reconnected hose. Thanks again.
