  1. In for the night, made it to Roanoke, VA. VERY cold ride...had to laugh at the truckers, who were laughing at me...little do they know that I was actually fairly warm, with the exception of my toes and fingers. 580 miles traveled today, and still, not even a hiccup from the Venture. She really does ride like a dream. Well, weather should be MUCH better tomorrow. I actually faired pretty well today, stayed away from Buffalo and avoided all the lake effect snow. I hit one area around Williamsport, PA, where I caught any precipitation, and that was just a slight drizzle. Rest of the way I had partly cloudy skies, but with winds in the 30 mph range. All in all, good ride today.

Oh, and have I mentioned, yet, that I absolutely LOVE this bike??!!

(Phillies just won the World Series)

  2. Well, today is the day...temp is 37 degrees, 60% chance of rain/snow mix, 40mph winds...am I crazy to get on the Venture in this weather? Unfortunately, I have no choice, I have to leave today. Buffalo and the southern tier are supposed to be getting hammered with lake effect snow so I will have to change my route. Instead of traveling my usual route of I-90 through Buffalo/Cleveland, I am going straight south on 390 towards PA to try and avoid the brunt of this snow storm.:snow2: Wish me luck.

Bogobob, Spankym and Big Tom, I apologize I wasn't able to get up with anyone. The weather did not cooperate at all, and this was a short trip, haven't seen my family in 2 years. If I get back up here next summer on the bike, I will definitely look ya'll up.

  3. I departed Montgomery, Al, Wednesday morning enroute to my folks place near Buffalo, N.Y. And despite the expected cold weather, I took this trip on my trusted dear friend, my 2007 RSMV. And while I was (admittingly) a bit nervous and wary, because I had never "ventured" this long of a trip on any motorcycle, this trip proved to me that I definitely made the right choice in motorcycles.

1060 miles later, I am sitting in front of a fireplace warming up, with some hot cocoa too. The Venture performed like a dream. She didn't even so much as hiccup on the trip. I had the trunk and saddlebags completely packed tight, with an old Army "rucksack" packed tightly in the rear seat. It was 80 degrees when I left the south Wednesday, and I made it to the Tennessee line in a short sleeve shirt. But soon, I had to start layering up. By the time I reached N.Y., the temp was in the 40's, I switched from a half-helmet to full face, I had 3 pairs of military issue "poly-pro" pants on under my jeans, four pairs of cold weather socks, t-shirt, one under-armor long sleeve, one sweatshirt, a heavy fleece jacket, and then my leather jacket with liner. Oh, forgot the mock-turtle neck and face mask...and the thick gloves. All said, I felt like that kid from the movie "A Christmas Story", Ralphies little brother who "couldn't move his arms", he was bundled up so much. But, I was warm. Add to that some engine heat, and some well-designed wind deflection, and I was a happy camper. My aftermarket Corbin seat was actually more comfortable than I had imagined it would be. My arse is not sore at all. If I have one complaint about the Venture throughout this trip (and it is a minor complaint), the stock speakers suck. I gotta get those changed soon. Just not loud enough. But I did get a chance to finally try out the Show Chrome helmet speakers, when I changed over helmets. They worked pretty good.

Sorry to bore ya'll...now to the moral of my rambling:

The Venture is an awesome bike. I'm glad I bought it!! I'll let you know how the return trip goes (it's supposed to be freezing rain here the day I am scheduled to leave.)

  4. I never bashed the Venture, just read thru this thread. In fact I have always said the Venture is a great bike and I enjoyed mine. I never BASHED it so why are some of you insistent on bashing the Ultra?

I BASHED my toes on the kitchen table the other day, and now I have an ULTRA big toe...does that count? (sorry, just tryin to lighten the mood...I agree with ya 100%):smash2:
  5. I have the same brake & running light. Yours looks like the red background and mine is the clear lenses.

Question about the clear lens...are the bulbs red, so when activated they emit a red light? Or when activated do they emit bright white lights?

  6. I've got the Baron 4-2-4 on my midnight venture, with the "extreme slash" tips. very loud pipes, makes the H-D riders sneak a peek with envy. I'll get some pics posted soon. I've had them on for about 6 months now. No resynch of the carbs done. Runs good, sounds good and looks good.

  7. I use the Garmin Quest 2 (which is actually supplied by my employer). It lasted less than a year...the connection between the antenna and the main unit gets corroded after time, and I ended up losing satellite reception. I found out that that problem occurs quite often with the Quest 2 by Garmin.

  8. I've been a member of this site for about 8 months now, long enough to say what a refreshing change this site is compared to another site I use for my other motorcycle. Without specifically naming the other site, I will just say this, it is a sportbike "forum" site. I use that sight, much like I use this one, to research and find answers to questions about maintenance for my bike, and preferrences for "add-ons". The other site I have stopped being an "active member", i.e. I don't respond to any forums, I don't add any input or advise. Reason being, there are several persons on that site that feel the need to insult, ridicule, and basically be just a royal pain in the arse. There are several forums on that site that had to be locked by the site administrator because of foul language, threats, racial remarks, etc.

VentureRider.org has been absolutely fantastic. I have posted several questions and/or replies on here, and not once has anybody insulted me, or felt the need to enter into an online argument. There are even a couple of members within a four hour drive of me (especially Eck) who have offered their expertise and assistance.

This site is a welcome breath of fresh air. :thumbsup2:

Anyways, I had to get that off my chest, so now I'm off my soap-box...thanks to all of you for a truly exceptional website.

    Peace out.

  9. I rode a 1st gen (I know, wrong thread), if I remember correctly it was a 1994, and I put over 90K miles on it. I now have an '07, just over 4K miles, no major problems...........yet??:fingers-crossed-emo

(altho, I did experience the clicking noise from the rear end at just over 1000 miles while on vacation in Lake Placid...luckily, a local dealer there was very familiar with the problem and corrected it for me)

  10. I have Baron's (the 4-2-4 setup) on my '07 RSMV (a buddy of mine also has them on his '07), we both experience the "pop" on decel...neither of us has done anything about it (yet). I am planning on purchasing one of those CarbTunes (is that the correct name/spelling?) and resynch my carbs, but for now, it's not that annoying to me. I definitely do love the sound of that rumble the Baron's provide. When I get the carbs resynch'd (which will be after the new year) I'll try to remember to provide some feedback on here.

  11. This past July, the wife and I were on vacation in the Lake Placid/Adirondack Mountains in northern N.Y., when my 2007 RSMV developed that annoying clicking noise from the rear end. Thankfully, a local dealer I contacted got me in the next morning, worked me in with their regularly scheduled appointments, and had my bike outta there before lunch. The mechanic explained the whole process to me. He said it takes less than an hour to do, but took him about 3 because he was working my bike in with his regulars. I hope this doesn't make you wanna pipe-bomb the dealer your bike is at...but the answer to your question is...one hour. that is...we are talking about the clicking noise from the rear end, right? not the clutch basket whine? (which my bike has not yet developed...knocking on wood)
