  1. Hey Biglenny! My wife and I rode on the 4th and it was awesome. We didn't get to do the entire ride you laid out, due to a late start. We rode Rt7 over and ate at the Cliffhanger Restaurant then my wife wanted to ride the ferry, so we rode back on RT7 and took the last part of your ride to the Ferry and back to Branson. It was really nice. However, if you ride that way don't get gas at the Gas station on the corner of 125 and 160. I got a tank full of bad gas and the bike run terrible. After checking it out all over I finally figured out it was bad gas. Drained it and put fresh gas in and it ran great again. Thanks' for the route and you can bet I'll be back there to ride some more in the future. Also, just a note for everyone. US RT60 is an awesome 4 lane route West!! And if you need help, as I did near Paducah Ky, Paducah Powersports is a great shop!! 100 miles outside of Paducah I noticed I the cords showing through on my back tire, so I rode to Paducah and the next morning Paducah Powersports took good care of me. Paducah, is a great place to visit also. Sam
  2. Thanks' again everyone. BigLenny, I have your route laid for when I get there! I'm taking off right after work and heading West!! I'm going to take US RT60 out of Lexington Ky all the way to Springfield. Hoping I can find a place to stay about the halfway point. If not, I'll pull a Ted Simons(Writer of Jupiter Travels) and sleep on the bike Just a side note, Coming from riding an Adventure Touring bike, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy a touring bike. But I have to say I really Love my RSMV. I usually put 10K a year on a bike and this year I'm already at 8K and its only half way!!!
  3. Thanks BigLenny!! I'll make out some route sheets with this information. I think riding and seeing sites will be on our agenda. Probably not much shopping. This is a huge help! If my daughter ends up working full time in Branson after college it will give me a reason to go outmore often
  4. No I didn't read anything about relocating the brake caliper and I didn't. I've put over 200 miles on the bike and haven't noticed any problems with braking. I'm going over the bike tonight before I head out for Branson Mo. tomorrow night so I'll look at it.
  5. I actually have the Mag! I saw that in there but just haven't had time to read the article. I was planning on taking it with me on the trip.
  6. That would awesome!!! Since we don't know the area very well and my family that lives there doesn't ride, input from a fellow rider would be most welcome Thanks' Allot!!
  7. Thanks Guys! I appreciate the input. My Daughter is doing an internship at "Chateau on the Lake" In Branson. Saturday is her Birthday so I'll be spending most of time in Branson and will probably only get one day to ride. I'm guessing that will be July 4th because she has to work that day. So my main concern is making good time going out and seeing a part of the country I haven't seen. I'll definitely check out RT160. If you see a RSMV with Ohio Tags, that will be me:)
  8. I had a local fabricator make some "Leveling Links" for my RSV. It only cost me a case of Pepsi. I just installed them Saturday evening and spent Sunday riding all day(162 miles) Wow! what a difference that made!! The bike handles so much better. I have no idea why Yamaha didn't do this when they built the bike. Now I'm going to get a 130 front tire and see how that helps. I have been looking at other touring bikes and just about all of them run 130 front tires.
  9. Hey Folks, I'm looking for some insight for my trip from Ohio to Branson Missouri. I'm riding out on July 3rd and coming back on July 7th. With it being a holiday weekend I would rally like to stay out of the big cities and off the interstates. On mapquest I looked at taking RT62 through Kentucky and then getting on RT60 and taking it all the way to Spring Field Missouri and then taking RT65 into Branson. Can someone give me some insight on these routes? is this a good idea or bad idea, is there major construction that will hamper my travel and are there some good campsites along the way where I could spend the night if I don't want to go the whole way? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  10. My bike came with type 2 already installed. I didn't think I would like them, but they work really well. Usually, I put my heel on the floor boards with my toes on the highway pegs and for my height 5'10" it works great great. I did a 1552 mile trip in two days and those pegs came in handy.
  11. I'm interested in adjustable levers also. I have small hands and would like to get the levers closer to the grips. Does anyone have an update concerning this?
  12. I ran 404's on my classic Honda VF700S "Sabre" and really liked them. So to hear they work well on a RSV is awesome! Great tire with excellent tire wear. I would get about 10k out of a set. What kind of mileage does the RSV get out of them?
  13. I just rode my Buddies Harley Street Glide and was amazed at how well that bikes handles compared to the RSV. So I decided to get on here and look at what will improve the RSV handling. There's allot of good advice and I think I'm going to install leveling links and start looking for a Stratoliner front wheel. Thanks' for the advice folks!!
  14. What Brand are these? I like them. I looked at Baker Wings, but didn't find a set that looked liked these. Sam
  15. Can the Lower Leg protectors be removed for summer riding and if so does anyone have a picture of thier RSV with them removed?
  16. Hey Folks, for anyone thats interested or going to be in the area. There will be a "Biker Sunday" Church service in Creola Ohio this Sunday April 13th. Sunday school at 9am and Service starting at 10am. Food & Ride after the service. Our CMA chapter will be there helping out. Creola is just a small village on Rt93 Just North of McArthur Ohio about 5miles or so. I can't remember the name of the church, but its the only one in the middle of town.
  17. Me too! I haven't seen the Avon brand Hester grips, where do you get them? I did install a SETI bought from Aerostitch Rider Warehouse on my KLR650 and believe me, heated grips are awesome and a must have item for serious riders.
  18. Yeah, its allot like a Mag 8. We compared and noticed that the visor was a little longer then the Bell. I didn't know if that would be good or bad, but it seems to be fine so far. My wife and I were at our local CMA meeting saturday and after the meeting we rode in the dark for the 1st time. Some of our CMA members rode with us and really liked the lights on the back of the helmets. They said it was bright enough to catch everyones attention behind us, but not bad enough to cause problems.
  19. My Wife and I bought these from Iron Pony and really like them! At $30 you can't beat the "Bang for the Buck"! I've wore mine on nice days and cold days and its a great helmet. I also like the light on the back for riding at night. They can be configured in in 3 different ways. I haven't wore it on a hot day, but the ventilation on this helmet looks like it would work great..........1 thing to keep in mind is the sizing is wrong. I usually wear a Large or extra large helmet, but in this helmet I wear a Medium(I tried several to make sure) and my wife usually wears a medium and we bought her a small. http://www.ironpony.com/ipd/pi.asp/ImageName/725867.jpg/Brand/Gmax/c2/Helmets/c3/Open-Face-Helmets/c1/Street-Products/KitKey2/Gm27S-Helmet
  20. Here's a picture of me and my wife on her 1stride on the RSMV. She loves the bike! I really like it also. So far I have put around 500 miles on it and its not even spring.
  21. Since buying my "New to me" 2005 RSV I have run two tanks of fuel through it and the ODO reads around 380 +/- miles. I always run it down to reserve. According to the Owners Manual I have 5 gallons until I hit reserve, but everytime I fill up it only takes 4.5 gallons So I'm wondering how many gallons the rest of you burn before hitting reserve? My next question is, are you guys finding that the speedo is off on the RSV? I'm thinking mine might be a little optimistic. I usually have to turn it on reserve at about 175 miles. Is this about right?
  22. I have experienced that also. It happens allot in Ohio when going up and down hills or over water ways. That's why I'm concerned about having a tall windshield on the RSV.
  23. I've been looking at Helmet Head sets for my 2005 RSV. I came acrossed a J&M HS-8154B-OF on sale several places for around $68. Does anyone have any experience with these? I'm wondering just how well they work. I mainly just want to be able to talk to my wife. The other question I have is how do I know it will fit the plug ins on my bike? Is the 5 pin standard or does the RSV have a special type plug in?
  24. I've used D2Moto brake pads on My 2008 KLR650 and my 1984 Honda VF700S and they work great! They have held up well and stop the bike as good if not better than stock. Not sure how well they will work on a Big Bike, but I wouldn't be afraid to try them. Worse case you buy new pads sooner than expected.
  25. Thanks' for noticing that. I'll swap them out. I don't have headsets yet, what do you guys recommend? The dealership told to get J&M head sets.
