  1. While down at the International Motorcycle Show with y'all .... DaMoose (Joe) bought an HID kit for his headlight. We went back to his place only a few min away from the center and I installed it WOW BRIGHT. He really liked it and I did also. The only thing is now the passing lights look YELLOW/AMBER. I like the contrast but they totally do not add anything to the lighting now. We went back to the show and I also bought an HID kit but I got the Bi-HID which has both hi-low HID, his only had low HID regular HIGH. There is much more wiring involved with the Bi kit I will say though. I really like the extra bright white light.

Now the question..is there a sealed beam lamp that can replace the OEM to make them look WHITE. Either change them to HID or LED or even maybe change the housing so that it is a BULB type so I can put super white bulbs in them.

Thanks for the helps y'all. Oh n I HIGHLY recommend the HID for visibility at night and day.

  2. how about I-81 south, to I-77 to I-26, to I-95 in SC. longer in miles, but no big cities to deal with, less traffic, less stress.

This would be the route I would take if I was going up north LOL. I live off of I-77 about 15 miles north of the bad parts in uptown Charlotte. I would say just try to time it to be through there before 7 7:30am and before 4pm. It does tend to back up a little. Also you will have to pass through Columbia SC which is aa ok size city and can get touch n go traffic there also. RIDE SAFE and watch for SC and GA troopers. Specially GA because they are suppose to be running MOTORCYCLE ONLY check points. Looking for stolen bikes, no ID, etc, but I am sure they will find lower fine tix issues as well.

I am actually heading down myself on Thursday taking the I77-I26-I95 route. RIDE SAFE.

    Rubber down and paint up.

  3. hi don

i have a hid head light and the driving lights are led's on the '99 rsv. i feel this is a great combo. but the hid does have some quirks every now and then. like it will shut down when you start the bike. i have had it shut down on me going down the highway late at night ( didn't have the driving lights on at the time ). but you were asking about a led head light so i realy can't say anything about it.

    reguards

    don c.

    Don,

I just purchased the HID Headlamp (High and Low HID) and DaMoose got the HID (low HID and high regular) this weekend at the IMS down in Greenville SC. I installed DaMoose's while i was there and really liked it. But now the driving lights look YELLOW. Both of use would like to make it where they look white to match the HID. Where did you get the LED Driving lights for the star light bar?

  4. I will be heading down next Thursday morning and staying in Bunnell with a bunch of SCRC friends. I am sure I will be out and about Thursday afternoon after setting up the tents. I am sure I will be at IronHorse Saloon for the David Allen Coe show that night. Other than that I really don't have any major plans other than to ride and enjoy better weather. Oh I am sure I will be out at the speedway sometime with my bike at the Jack Tent.

  5. Bet somebody would like to get hold of that bottle of J D i have that was 120 months old when it was bottled in 1960.

That def would be a nice add to my collection. I have a signed single barrel with all paper work, a 1950 gold medal bottle with the signed gold sticker (but is is empty), single barrel bottles, sturgis bottles, all sizes that they bottle, and a 3 little on a swing, with a bunch more stuff in my JACK room.

Jack Daniels is the only TN sipping whiskey and it is good.

Oh yea I am a TN squire as well. Just another hobby just like riding.

  6. I am really looking for someone near Charlotte that might have the time to help me tune up my bike. I have it running and it is def able to be ridden it just seems to me that it needs to be tuned up. I def need the cards adjusted and lined up. I have replaced all the spark plugs and all have good blue spark. I have also cleaned the carbs with carb cleaning soaking the bowls and turning it over several times with choke out, in, full n half throttle. I just think that adjusting the carbs will help the bike run better.

If there is anyone near and that might have the time for be to come to you and help with this proses please let me know. I am def willing to ride.

    Thanks

    Robert

  7. Thanks for the help. First the spark plug wires are not crossed. Second the bike doesn't sit long at all the longest it has sat is probably a week or two when I was sick and it was real cold in the teens.

Reasons the crabs were cleaned last time is because of almost the same issue. the bike would run of full choke but once you push the choke in it cut off. The mechanic said there was a lot of corrosion dues to bad gas and having around 30K miles on the bike at the time. I thought it was a little strange but hey I am no mechanic.

Once the carbs were cleaned I took a 7000 mile ride out to Sturgis, Wy, and back. Then the bike sat for maybe a week and rode a little here and there. Then the bike now has been sitting for maybe two weeks because I was sick. The battery died so I replaced it, forgot to hook up the battery tender and it got to cold.

I did not know that the book says change the plugs every 8k so maybe I should do that again, even tho the plugs looked good.

I also know i need to change the oil but want to warm up the bike to do that so the oil drains a better.

I have a feeling all the carbs are getting gas though because when i drained them last night each one had a good significant amount of gas in them.

Steps I will take to see if they work.

    1. Check plugs and or replace them all

    2. Clean all connections

    3. Check temp of the pipes when running from cold start.

I am def not a mechanic so pulling the carbs I reckon is out of the picture and I would have to trailer it to a mechanic that I trust, to bad they are 3.5 hours east of me. Hopefully if it is a carb issue I can talk them into making it a warranty case. I don't think I should be having carb issues already when the bike barely sits still and only had like 45K+ miles on it and it was bought in Late 07.

Thanks for all the help guys, I will keep you posted.

  8. I have drained the carbs and there was fuel in all four bowls. I have rain sea foam through the gas. I have also drained the tank and added new 93 oct with sea foam in it.

The fuel pump is working and clicked a lot once the bowls were drained. Turned the bike off and it click a few times then stopped. Turned of and back on. Started with chock full out and ran real rough for few mins. Then I pushed the choke in and it idle real rough. Gave it gas and it sputtered real back and cut off. It is not firing on all cylinders and I can hear that. It sounds like it is getting the air but no gas to two cylinders. It cuts off when giving it gas.

I have checked the plugs and they look good, they were replaced not even 8000 miles ago.

I don't know what else to do other than check and see if the carbs are aligned. Would that make a difference?

What other advice do y'all have?

    Thanks for all the help.

PS: I have read through a lot of the posts about carbs and I have tried almost everything that has been mentioned.

  9. I can crank the bike up with full choke and it will warm up fine but with a lot of popping. I push the choke in and it slows down, pops a lot and then cuts off. When I give it gas it will rev up but not hitting on all four cylinders. I have checked the plugs they were just replaced not even 8500 miles ago. The carbs were cleaned also at that same time. I also replaced the fuel pump because it went bad at that same time as well. I have ran sea foam through it also. I am thinking the carbs are out of adjustment real bad. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else might be wrong. My mechanice is 3.5 hours away and I really don't want to have to trailer it all the way down there if I can work on it here at my house in my garage.

Thanks for all the help in advance.

  10. Ok so I will make everyone feel old no matter how old you are. I am turning 27 next week and have owned my 2nd gen midnight 'Old No 7' Jack Daniels for almost 3 threes years come may. I love my bike every time I throw my leg over the saddle.

Everyone Ride Safe and enjoy the freedom and wind in your hair (if y'all have it still, LOL :rotfl:)

  11. I have this suite and so do my parents. I have been through some nasty storms and stayed dry. I like the fact that there are stirrups on the pants and that the cuffs on the jacket you can tighten. Also there is the hood that fits under your helmet and keeps your neck dry. I will admit tho that the neck does get irritating to me. Also a good thing that works are the reflective cording so you can actually been seen better while raining, as long as crazy 4 wheelers turn on there lights like most states have in law, lol.

Others will chime in but I like mine.

  12. THANKS! I am going to try all that tomorrow. I have a feeling it might be it is tired of the ethanol gas it got while i was out west in sturgis and wy. I will start from the beginning like Goose has stated and see what I can get. I just had the carbs cleaned and all right before going out west so that is why I am really upset and don't understand why it is doing it again.

Thanks so much I will let everyone know what I find out.

    Robert

  13. Thanks.

I will check the gas but there were 8 other bikes with me that used the same pump gas and they have no issues.

I have also pulled the hose off the petcock and put my finger to the end of it and turned the bike one. it pulled a vacuum. Next thing to do I reckon is to pull the tank and start taking the air box off so I can spare the carbs with cleaner.

Again Thanks I will check the fuel flow and to see if the gas is good.

  14. I was having a problem with keeping the bike running so I took it to the shop. They said they took the carbs off and that they were gummed up. Bike is an 07 with 37K. I did a 6000 mile ride out to Sturgis and back and didn't have any problems until the last day coming home. That morning it didn't want to stay running. I got it running and rode it back home with no more problems.

The bike sat for maybe 4 days and I went to go ride and could not get the darn bike to stay running. I pulled the choke out and it would run full choke for a min or two and then cut off. I let it sit for a few hours and then went back out and pulled the choke and got the bike to run high ideal then pushed the choke in and it was running fine.

Now the bike has sat for maybe 2 or 3 days and it is doing the same things. I can not keep the bike running with full choke or without choke.

Does anyone have any ideas of what might be causeing this.

The bike does have K&N filters been on for over a year now, road king pipes been on since 700 miles, AIS has been plugged then unplugged. I have replaced the fuel filter right before the cards got cleaned. I checked the fuel pump it is still pulling a sucktion. All fuel lines are conected and in good condition. I replaced the spark pulgs right before the cards got cleaned.

I personal don't know what else could be the issue other than the cards wont tuned correct and the jets are back and not shemmed correct. I am by no means a mechanice but I do know how to do many things by reading our tech forums and the manuals.

If anyone can help please speak up.

    Thanks so much in Advance.
