Zelthian Posted May 9, 2018 #1 Posted May 9, 2018 Does anyone else find it frustrating that the Owner's Manual and the Service Manual only refer to the oil filter for the 2018 SV as "Cartridge Type"? Is there an OEM part number for the oil filter? Bonus brownie points for the K&N equivalent.
American Posted May 9, 2018 #2 Posted May 9, 2018 Yamaha spin on oil filter part number. ELEMENT ASSY, OIL CLEANER (5GH-13440-60-00) I understand that someone used the K&N 303 oil filter as well so you might try doing a search for that one as long as it cross references to above part number you are good to go. There seems to be multiple oil filters with the above part number but where the number 60 is it is a different number, apparently the oil filter with the number 50 also fits and works. Weird all I can find in the service manual, not the owners manual but the service manual is cartridge filter with a drawing of a spin on oil filter, no part numbers. My 600 mile service the dealer printed the above part number listed on my invoice. but they installed a (5GH-13440-50-00) on the engine. I think the above part number with the number 60 in it may be the latest release for the oil filter. When I did online searches for oil filter for the 2018 Star Venture that is the oil filter part number that came up.

I bit the bullet and called my dealership and asked what they put on my bike. He gave me the same "60" number. When I asked about the "50" that was more common, they checked and confirmed that the "50" is a retired number, and that the "60" number is the new part number, but it's the same part.

Since we have not had an oil-filter war on here for some time now... I present the following. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?96009-Oil-Filter-Comparisons-Hey-I-m-no-Engineer

I'm not out to start a war (I find that such things on forums rarely resolve anything), but with these numbers I have a better idea what my options are. The post showing the evolution from the "00" part number to the "30" part number is quite interesting, though.
