What does this wire go to? Any help appreciated

I am going thru some wiring trying to figure out some issues and ran into this wire (the red body one). Anyone know what it goes/went to? The bike is an 87 Venture Royale.

That red thing is the battery electrolyte level sensor. It is normally inserted into the battery.
