mountainmanVR Posted September 29, 2016 #1 Posted September 29, 2016 Howdy my 83 VR out of blue decided to have a carb overflow this afternoon. I ran it yesterday over 100 miles, started & ran this morning. Went out pulled plugs to check, started & over flow on carb 4. Planned to ride today. Any thoughts?
bongobobny Posted September 29, 2016 #2 Posted September 29, 2016 Most likely the needle valve is not sealing up. Tap it a few times to see if it fixes. Yes, unfortunately a needle valve can just get stuck out of the clear blue sky...
garyS-NJ Posted September 29, 2016 #3 Posted September 29, 2016 I had a carb set someone else worked on and he didn't install the little clips on the needle so the floats went up but didn't push the needle. Perhaps you have a piece of smootz in there which can be flushed.. Open the drain screw and drain fuel into a clear container looking for smootz. and then wash fuel through while tapping the carb body. Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk
mountainmanVR Posted September 30, 2016 Author #4 Posted September 30, 2016 Howdy Gary, I just went through these carbs (again)... clean..clean..clean.. inside. I am familiar with the clips in some carbs, these needle valves don't use the clips. Maybe the bike is psychic... I most likely would have become road splatter if I had rode yesterday.. instead I drove the car... and still was almost toast...
