Installing new plug wires - help

Recommended Posts

My new plug wires arrived today...nice and yellow! However, my old plug wires have at least 1 to 3 layers of protective corraggated(sp?) plastic over them. Similar to trailer or truck wiring. It is usually split lengthwise, but this is not. Is this necessary or even original? If I use this again, there was no use in ordering yellow wires because they will all be covered up. Hope somebody replies soon so I can get back to installing wires LOL. Thanks.

Well, the technical term is "wire loom". The purpose of placing wiring in a loom is two fold. It protects the wiring from external damage and shields it from heat. It will also prevent unintended grounding.

So, "Is it necessary?" Probably not.

"Does it help?" Definately.........

But then, this is just my opinion.............

I'd say NOT necessary at all. Go ahead show off that yellow. I made up a set for mine and if you get each of them the correct length they'll stay nice without worrying about needing to protect them. It also helps if you have all the original valve cover plastic louvers and associated rubber ties that help guide the path for the wires.
