shuttlebug Posted January 24, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 24, 2015 I'm changing the heads on my 01 RSV, and I got the front cams to line up with the marks, but the rear cams are a little bit off. The flywheel has three marks for #1 TDC, looking at the book, it looks like the last mark (turning counterclockwise) is the one- But the marks are 1/2 tooth off on the cam. Two more marks to check, but with my wrist hurt, I can't do much more trial and error Please help, the Yamaha engineers have got my goat!
shuttlebug Posted January 26, 2015 Author Share #2 Posted January 26, 2015 Nobody has taken a 2nd gen RSV apart? Back to guessing
MikeWa Posted January 26, 2015 Share #3 Posted January 26, 2015 Clymer manual M374 'Yamaha Royal Star 1996-2003' has a fairly detailed procedure for engine disassembly. If all else fails make your own timing marks before disassembly. But I seriously recommend getting the manual. Mike
Neil86 Posted January 26, 2015 Share #4 Posted January 26, 2015 The tensioner is not pressing on chain at this point?
shuttlebug Posted January 26, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted January 26, 2015 I tried it today on the 2nd mark- which today looks more like the book than it did a few days ago... I think I hit my head too hard in the wreck o_O The marks line up better now. Thank You Brian B
Neil86 Posted January 27, 2015 Share #6 Posted January 27, 2015 The first 2 marks as you rotate CCW are the firing range for #1, the 3rd mark (last to rotate under) is the TDC mark.
