Money Venture Posted June 30, 2014 #1 Posted June 30, 2014 So, the bike has been running pretty good lately. I rode the bike into the garage the other night. Today, I got the bike out to participate in a ride about an hour north. Made it to the end of the driveway. Smelled gas. Asked Cheryl if she saw anything leaking. She said, yes it is pouring out the bottom. Shut off the bike and got off. Gas was pouring out like it was from a gas can. Front left carb was running over. Not had a problem previously. Disconnected fuel pump and let it run to empty. Plugged in pump. No more leak. Seemed like for some reason, we were not supposed to ride today. On the good side, found a leaky vacuum line and fixed it "while I was in there".
ricksbike Posted June 30, 2014 #2 Posted June 30, 2014 I would assume thatt your carb picked up a piece of dirt and running it dry and letting it refill it flushed the dirt out.
Money Venture Posted June 30, 2014 Author #3 Posted June 30, 2014 Yes, that's what I anticipated. It had run fine and the next time it was puking all over. I was glad that it worked letting it run dry. Hated to pull it apart when I knew it had been fine. Now I need to change the oil. Glad I didn't just do it yet.
Skid Posted June 30, 2014 #4 Posted June 30, 2014 Once after a long storage during the winter mine done that too. I just tapped on the side of the carbs and problems solved. Just a float sticking...
Money Venture Posted June 30, 2014 Author #5 Posted June 30, 2014 I tried tapping the carb, but it didn't work. The trick with the fuel pump connector worked like a charm. Good thing for everyone to know, just in case.
