Need help adjusting front brake lever......

Original broke and was not an issue.

 

New factory replacement and it will sometimes not return all the way and will activate the brake light, brake is not engaged only the rear light is coming on.

 

I have played with varying amounts of free play and have even installed a small spring between the plunger, lever and screw with no luck.

 

Brake light will be activated till I push the lever forward just a little bit.

 

If I am parked it will stick approx 1 of 10 times. Spring seemed to help a little. Cruise control won't activate when this happens.

 

Hope this makes sense.

Thinking out loud, Maybe the brake light switch on the lever is adjustable?

Whatever force caused it to break may have damaged or bent something.

 

Or it may just need some lube. Try some WD-40 in there.

Maybe you have the jam nut to tight and the lever is binding in the clevis.

Is the return spring item 4 in this IPB installed?

I'm assuming the spring (#4) is held in place by the set screw and nut? Then no, I don't have that and that's why I added a spring, but apparently mine is not strong enough.

Looking harder at the pic, it looks like its right next to the set screw. Getting ready for work, but I will check and see if the spring is installed and get back.

 

Hopefully it's not installed and a less than $2 repair would be nice:)
