M61A1MECH Posted November 3, 2013 #1 Posted November 3, 2013 (edited) Has anyone else had problems with getting the banjo joints on new SS brake lines to seal/seat. Installed a set on the front of my 07 last night and had problems with the banjo joints weeping a bit, double checked the torque, they seated just a bit more when I did. Dried them off , left the lever pulled back using a heavy duty wood working rubber band over night, and found them all wet again this morning. Just weeping a bit, not gushing, but brakes should not leak period. Anyone else have issues getting these to seat? The lines were supplied with new copper crush washers. What am I missing here, seems it should be straight forward, tighten and fill with fluid, bleed and go. Thanks for any input, have lines for the rear and the clutch, but not sure I want to do those untill I work out what is up with the fronts. Edited November 3, 2013 by M61A1MECH
KeithR Posted November 3, 2013 #2 Posted November 3, 2013 I replaced my fronts and had the same problem with leaks......you got to torque them down real good...that was the only way I was able to get mine to stop. I also have the rest but got disheartened and left them in the box. Keith
Guest Posted November 3, 2013 #3 Posted November 3, 2013 They can be a bit sensitive to seat. I would go with new washers and torque them to specs then go a touch more. Maybe 1-2 ft lbs more. Mine weeped until I found its sweet spot. Make sure your seal surface on the caliper is clean.
M61A1MECH Posted November 3, 2013 Author #4 Posted November 3, 2013 Thanks Keith and Jeff. I tweaked them again this morning, took her for a short test ride with a good deal of hard braking and they seem to be OK, I may be able to get a smidge more tight on them, but think I will wait and see. I am about half way thru the rear install right now, not nearly as much fun as I thought it would be, but gettin her done.
