1986 Venture R what is with odometer

Recommended Posts

the two events are not related but coincidental. The cable can loosen from vibration, and if you have recently serviced your front wheel it may not have been tight enough. I know this fron experience, twice,( slow learner). I got in the habit of taking a pair of pliers to the coupler and tightening it. As to the odometer the plastic odo drive gear is driven by a metal gear and the plastic gear wears out. I have used LaBelle's 106 lubricating grease with Teflon to keep the gear working. This is a grease used in model railroad locomotives which have the same situation. It is plastic compatible and is available from any hobby shop that sells model trains.

As to repairing it,I have tried on 2 different speedometers without success to repair this. After removing the gear I could not figure a way to reassemble it. I ended up replacing the whole speedometer head after running for awhile with no odometer.
