Bubbajbi Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I never turn my fuel cock to off and have never had any problems. Recently I turned it to reserve and then to off and then back to on. I rode about 24 miles to Rich99's house to sync my carbs and when I got there he noticed that fuel was leaking from the front of the fuel cock where the switch was. No fuel was coming from around the hose. Just a slow drip. When I got back home, it had stopped and has not done it since but I have not moved the switch. This is my question. Can I just remove the fuel cock and take it apart and replace any o-rings that might be binding up or do I have to order a whole new one? Should I even worry about fixing it since it is no longer leaking? Please help! I do not want to catch fire riding down the road.
Monsta Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I'd keep an eye on it and would also move the petcock every now and then. My guess is that the rubber got hard and took a little while to change shape. The gas probably swelled the rubber back up and stopped the leak.
kwisor Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Hello Mine Was Leaking And What I Did To Fix It Was Remove The Hose Fron The Peak Cock And Take A Pice Of Wood And Tap The The Hose Outlit Where The Hse Goes On That Comes Loose I Have Had No Leakes Since Then Kevin Wisor 1999 Rsv Jax Fl
spear Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I don't touch my fuel tap. She's on reserve 24/7.
SaltyDawg Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I had the same thing happen one time and it has never happened again. I too believe that the rubber got hard and once that gas hit it the thing swelled back up to stop the leak.
Monsta Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I don't touch my fuel tap. She's on reserve 24/7. Mine, too. Too many low fuel warnings lights and such to actually justify a reserve position. You gotta warning light, a fuel gauge & count down trip meter. Last thing I need is to take my hands off the bars and fumble around with a petcock.
Bubbajbi Posted September 18, 2007 Author Posted September 18, 2007 Thanks, y'all. After hearing from all of you, I think I will just make a habit of moving the valve.
