  1. I have a blue flame ventless heater in my garage/shop and it works very well. It does not have a fan, but I have a ceiling fan in the shop which I run on low in the winter.

I am not understanding the posts which say the heater adds humidity. How does a gas heater add humidity to the air? My heater just heats the air that is already present in the shop, all natural ingredients and no additives.

  2. Jerry, all you need to do as read his second paragraph - set apart all by itself so you couldn't possibly miss it (?).

"I am thinking of suggesting that the Club adopt a strict "No alcohol while riding" policy."

He asked for suggestions - I gave him a simple one: live by your own values and stay away from other people if you do not like theirs. He responded with a clear statement that he did not understand what I said, so I explained it in detail. You may call that a "flame", but I do not.

I think it is very wrong for people to try to impose their values on others. But that does not mean I disagree with a discussion of those values. In fact, I think it is very important that someone who is concerned with things being done in a group to which they want to associate to voice those concerns and be willing to actually listen to the responses they get. In this case, I would strongly suggest that Panjandrum bring up his concerns with the group so that they know how he feels, but that is NOT the same as trying to impose a new rule on them. I do hope he is honest with them though, and that he says just what he posted here - that he is concerned that some of them are either incapable of deciding what is appropriate to drink or do not have the ability to control how much they drink.

You cannot have an honest discussion unless you are willing to be honest about your feelings.

    Well Goose,

Does he mean this group or the one he rides with? What makes you so sure he is refering to this club? Read the 1st & 2nd paragraph. I took it to mean the club he actually rides with.

  3. Wayne,Ive been driving 37 years. Dont know your age or if a family but just starting out it is a tough and lonely life with very little respect..what I mean by that is there may be 100 super good drivers but if 1 Guy messes up and cuts someone off or tailgates alot of people judge you by the other guys actions. Also more than likely you will start over the road and believe me shippers and receivers take advantage of you IE: you load and unload..you will quickly find out that you loose big time money unloading all day for maybe $70.00 then out of hours to actually drive and thats where your money is. I have been fortunate in the era I came up in as I had plenty of choices and always landed a good driving job. Currently in my opinion I drive for the best company out there BUT you have to have ALOT of experience and a very clean driving record. That is another thing...a clean driving record..if you dont have that you will most likely be turned away or get a pretty crappy driving job. Currently I am close to 4 million lifetime miles no accident or tickets....that has been hard to do but its possible..knock on wood..Good luck in whatever you decide to do and if you need any personal questions answered feel free to call me anytime. Tom

Gotta' tell you Tom, Wal-Mart drivers have the best reputation on the road. At least with the folks I know.

  4. I ride a great deal with groups (mixed bikes) with Coast Riders. I have noticed several riders who will have a beer (just one) at lunch time. There are a couple who will have more than one.

I am thinking of suggesting that the Club adopt a strict "No alcohol while riding" policy.

I am certainly not against drinking in the afternoon/evening when finished riding for the day. Also, I know we are all adults, and should be able to decide for ourselves whether or not a single beer would affect riding judgment. My concern is that somebody might drink more than they should. A pint of a stronger beer, is quite different from a can of American beer (sorry, couldn't resist). Also to be considered is the health, age, body size and several other factors that would affect the way a rider reacts to that "one drink".

People can make their own decisions if they are riding on their own. But it seems to me that there is a greater risk when riding at some speed in a group, and when there is only one second between you and two other bikes. Yes, staggered formation... but that stagger doesn't make much difference when something happens quickly.

Any of you belong to a Club with such a policy? Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Cheers!

Could you "flamers" show me exactly where he wants to impose the no drinking rule on this organization? He mentioned a group he rides with and asked if anyone belonged to a club that had no drinking policy. I am not finding where he mentioned this group.

And you wonder why there are so many lurkers who don't ask questions or participate in disussions. So much for the "largest and friendliest Venture and Royal Star site on the internet" crapola.

  5. If you were looking at a wing with a voyager kit on it, that is not really a trike. I have no experience with either, but the voyager is a bolt on set of wheels maybe more like training wheels. I am told there is a big difference in the handling in a bike that has been "triked" and a bike with a voyager kit on it. However, thanks for the input. I am thinking there will be a point in time that I will have to either go for a trike or quit riding. Looks like there will be a trike around here when that time comes.

  6. Might check with one of those places that advertise paintless dent repair. I have seen hail damage repaired that way and the results were very good. Sounds like your health is getting better, next time you are at the doctor you might have see if they have anything for cranial rectitus. Just sayin.

  7. If getting all the old oil out was a priority and you don't want to use a flush and leave some of that in the engine, why not just pour a quart of oil in while the plug is out and after that drains put the plug back and fill with oil? Would that "flush" any residual oil in the pan and leave clean oil in its place? Just askin'.

  8. That is wierd about the beer, almost like it came out of the same "bad" batch. A buddy and I are headed out on a roadtrip to New Mexico & Colorado in the morning. I will let you know if the beer is any better in that part of the world.

Even if the beer isn't any better, I am thinking the weather is better.

  9. I think it has to do with the fact that there aren't many "Service Stations" anymore. Those places had a compressor for use by the mechanics and simply hung a hose on the side of the building.

Now that we buy gasoline at a "Convenience Store" the only compressor on the premises is that slow coin operated contraption.

You are right, guess they could buy and maintain a compressor and raise the price of their gas to cover the cost of the new equipment. Then, everyone would go where the gas was cheaper and only drop by to get the free air. Free cigars and nickel beer went away a long time ago.

My Dad told me one time that he could remember when he could buy the best cut of steak in the butcher shop for $.10 a pound. He also said that if would have had a dime he would have bought one of those steaks.

  10. I have gotten anywhere from 30 mpg to 42 mpg, depending on where I was riding. I think the floats are set too high in the carbs, but I don't have the skill sets to fix that. I have a carbtune and try to keep the carbs in sync. I plan to buy a colortune and learn to use that. Maybe, one of these days I will make a maiintenance day where they are setting floats and watch that done and decide if I want to attempt it.

However, on the road I don't really worry about mileage on the bike. I just enjoy the ride.
