I was the skeptic when I saw the first pics, but I like it alot!
Thanks. Sometime I will level out the rack a little better. And also I will redo the bracing for the rack so that it is on the bottom of the plate rather than on top. It is not quick release, but close enough for me. When I do need the trunk, it is a matter of pulling 6 bolts and the whole plate, rack, backrest bracket come of as one piece. Then using the same 6 bolts, just bolt the trunk back on and hook up the quick disconnects I added to the wires for the rear speakers and trunk spoiler light. So maybe a 15 - 20 minute swap. Not to bad for as little as I need the trunk anyway.

Ok I have finished as much as I am going to do for now. Maybe get some ideas over the summer and do some more next winter. But hopefully after tomorrow's snow, it will be time to start riding daily again. More pics attached. Some with the backrest and some without.

It does attract dust, but on the underside of the pipes and frame, dust is better than rust!
Its a Canadian product that seems to be un-heard of here in the States, but its used by our military and worldwide....
To take care of the rust, I just bought the Harley exhaust from Freebird!!

Nice. But I'd have to ditch the white walls.
I think the white walls help make the make. At least on that bike with those colors and the way it is set up.

It would take forever to get all of the chrome off that is spoiling the looks .......
I agree it would be that much better for me if the chrome was all black instead. But I still love that bike and wouldn't turn it down.

For well under $100.00, you could go with a set of Harley mufflers.
I just emailed you about the set you have. Will they slip right on the header or do I need some sort of clamp to attach them? I know I need the bracket for the back part.

Wish I had the time and money to buy a second RSV and turn it into one just like the one in the video. I love everything about this bike.

So you are looking for the size of inlet you will need for a replacement muffler? I saw last year where a fellow put some thrush muffler on a 1st gen. Wouldnt it be easier to go the HD RK route. You could still get the black BBQ paint and take care of the chrome issue. I have a set of RK I can measure the inlets on tomorrow. But it seems to me they are less than 2"
The problem is spending the cash on them now. The Thrush I can do for under $100 including some tips for the ends. And yes I am looking for the size of the end that will slip onto the header. Thanks

The bottoms of my mufflers are pretty rusty. Last week I started sanding them in the hopes of painting them. Well I decided that I would just figure something else out. So for now I am looking at going the Thrush glasspack route. For around $50 I can have decent looking pipes for a while. Not sure if I will get the silver and just install or the red and wrap them with black header wrap (I hate chrome and have wanted black pipes anyway) They have several different inlets and I am not sure which one I need. They have one with a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets that I was thinking about. But only if the 3" inlet will mount right up. If not, I will just go with 2 straight pipes and be done. So if someone could tell me what size inlet I need, I would appreciate it. Thanks

Thanks to those telling me the brake click noise is normal. Maybe I just never heard it because I was used to the radio coming on when I turned the power on and just never heard the clicking.
Now to figure out why my stereo is not working.
Joe I am still planning on giving you a call. Got busy yesterday picking up a filing cabinet for a new vertical smoker and then my son's basketball practice.

Could the clicking be the rear wheel splines misalignment / grease noise?
Nope. The clicking is just when the bike is not even running or moving. It is parked with the power on and I hit the brake pedal or lever. It sounds like a relay clicking like it is bad, but everything works properly. Can't tell if it is clicking with the bike running because of the motor noise. Maybe I am crazy about the clicking. Maybe it always did that and I just never noticed it. Maybe someone could check their bike and see if you hear it. Just turn all the power on and hit the brake. Do not run the bike just power it up and hit the brake. If everyone else's bike does it, then maybe I just never noticed it before.

Checked all the fuses under the seat and behind the lower cowlings (with a test light and not just by sight). All are good. And everything else but the radio works and works properly.

Does everything include all your lights?
Yep. All lights work properly. Everything in the dash works. Just the radio not working and the clicking when hitting the brake lever.

Check your fuses for the controller after you make sure you did not pinch any cables and ground them out and check to make sure all the connections are tight.
Does the brake noise sound like a cricket?
Nope sounds like a relay clicking. But everything works. Except the radio of course.

Ok so I have been working on removing my trunk and making the bike trunkless. I finally got it to a point I am happy with today and put it all together. Well of course now my stereo won't work. I did disconnect all audio/cb stuff in the back. Radio worked fine after that when I rode it to my father in laws to start fabricating a passenger backrest. Well it has been a week and a half and it is together and like I said, the radio is not working. The only electrical stuff I did was to add some led brake lights to the back. I used the wires from the light that was in the trunk. So nothing new. The only weird thing is that with the power on but the bike not running, when I hit the brake lever or pedal, there is a clicking noise from the left side of the bike. Sounds like it is from the front left lower cowling, but not sure. Is the clicking normal or could this be causing my stereo problem? All fuses check out ok. Radio connections in fairing were cleaned and reconnected. Radio seems to be getting power to the unit in the fairing, but my controller does not work at all. Everything else on the bike works fine and even with the clicking noise, the brake lights work fine.

13 years old with only 9000 miles, my first thought would be the carbs need a very good cleaning.

I now have a back plate cut out and most of the removable backrest ready. Everything still needs to be painted and then I will finish install. Attached are some pics of the removable backrest build. The welds aren't the best looking. I am still learning (just starting to learn).

I bought my bike with a worn Corbin. Thought I hated it and found a like new pillow top and tried it. I really hated the pillow top and it made me realize just how comfortable the Corbin is. So I found a less worn Corbin and it is great.

A law enforcement officer I respect, once did a short, simple demonstration about laser sights to a small group of us after a CERT training session.
I have never forgotten it.
We were in the parking lot at the police station. It was dark, about 10 o'clock at night.
He told us to look the other way and not peek. He then said, in one minute, turn around, and point to the car he will be hiding behind.
In one minute, we turned around, and he was gone. We had no idea which car he was behind.
Then....he lit up his pocket laser and pointed it at us.
THERE HE IS!
I hope I dont need to explain this.
But in case I do...here is the point:
If he was the 'homeowner' and I was the 'intruder', now I know exactly where to aim MY weapon.
Something to think about.
I can honestly say that if it was me using the weapon, not sure I would actually use it. My wife most likely. As for me, if you make it into my house with the dog barking and growling and waking me up, the whole family has bedrooms at the end of the hall so I know where they are (kids have night lights so it is easy to see them in their beds from my bedroom doorway) and I will be in the dark at the end waiting for you to pop around the corner. And if my dog is barking and growling at you and you are not announcing yourself as law enforcement, you will be blasted with as many shells as I can get off before you know what is going on.

Since size of gun is not the issue and you say that you have big hands, I would recommend to go bigger than 9mm.
I agree you could go bigger than 9mm, but the bigger you go, you start worrying more about over penetration. I believe the OP said that the kids were gone, but what about a spouse, pet, etc. Or possibly the OP lives in a townhouse or an apartment. I would hate for a round to go through a wall and hit something I didn't mean to hit. I feel comfortable using a 9mm in the house if needed. (Also agree that a shorty 12ga is the best thing. I leave the KelTec KSG with laser sight near the bed ready to roll. Especially for my wife when I am out of town).

I have to politely disagree with bumble bee on Springfield being a glock clone. Springfield armory make fantastic firearms and have been battle tested. I own an XD and that fires flawlessly, no matter how much or little I fire it. It has an extra safe guard that fits in the webbing of your index and thumb ( the snuff box). It also has notches for tactical light. I have a streamlight on mine that I like. Yet the XDS, the subcompact model, did not feel good. I do not have large hands.

It is not exactly like the Glock, but more so than any other pistol I have seen or fired. And yes it does have the extra safety. To me it just feels the same in my hand, feels the same way when fired, and disassembles almost identically (much easier than a lot of other pistols out there).

Yep. I went back and checked all the fuses again and the back up fuse under the seat tested bad the second time. So I actually pulled it this time and looking at it, it was kind of broken. It seems there is one little piece still hanging on. I still have the fuse and I can put the test light on it and 1 minute it shows good, and the next it shows bad. Put a new on in and I am good to go. When I was drilling one of my holes for the rack, I hit a couple of the wires in the back. I didn’t know it until I took the plate off to paint it. I have a feeling that the fuse kind of blew when I hit the wires and they touched. Or the fuse blew long ago and the one little connecting piece was on its last leg.
