  1. Am a fairly new member here, and have greatly enjoyed my time. I had a 1987 venture royale that I bought a few months ago. Squidly wonderfully took time to help me put progressives in my forks, as well as adjust the breaks, clutch, and do a fluid change on both. It made the bike much more fun to ride. However, after riding it to and from work a few times, I had to admit to myself that the bike was not enjoyable to ride in Houston area traffic. I never could get comfortable riding it at rush hour speeds. I also realized that I just didn't have time to work on it like I wanted to, and that the bike was ending up being a garage queen. To make a long story short, I met a guy who wanted to trade his 2001 Honda Shadow ACE 750 for the venture. He was wanting a bigger bike for the road and has the time and space to work on it. So, I traded title for title. I am happy that I got a bike that will suite me well without going int debt. I pointed him to this site and hope he shows up.

Also, I am not leaving this site. I will be hanging around. I am available to help any and all who need it (as much as I can), and would still love to ride with y'all any chance I can. I appreciate the family here and hope I can be as much of a help as everyone has been to me. My contact info will remain current should anyone need anything.

  2. Tried to order some diaphragms for my 87 this week from http://www.siriusconinc.com , but they won't have them in stock for another 5 weeks. Does anyone know where I can get the sd-1 diaphragms faster than that? If someone has a spare set lying around, I would gladly send money via PayPal in order to get them. I inspected one of mine and it has a few good size holes in it. I dread to see what the other ones look like. Thanks in advance.

  3. AWESOME, I love it. My wife screams at me for slightly gettin on the fun wheel. Now what clutch setup is best for my 1st gen?

Get with Skydoc on this clutch setup. His ad is Here I can personally vouch for Earl as a good vendor. He will bend over backwards to help you get what you need when you need it. He wont do you wrong. Msg him.

  4. The bike handled well. I was a lot more comfortable today as I'm getting used to the progressives and real air pressure in the tires (not the 20lbs that it did have). The brakes are also much much better. I feel much more confident with a good suspension as well. I was a bit sore this morning from all the up and down when working on the bike yesterday as well as from the change in handlebar positioning. However, that quickly went away when I got back on the bike. Took my son to breakfast on the bike this morning. He had a blast., as did I. I'm gonna ride the bike to work tomorrow and see if I can give it a good run too. She really wants to go fast. I have to be real aware of my speed. It seems like 70 is where it wants to cruise at right now.

  5. Took a s,mall ride this evening and had a wonderful time. I only rode for about 45 min, but it is nice to get back in the saddle and not have to worry about what time you have to be somewhere. I haven't owned a bike for 15 years. I had forgotten how nice it is to just cruise. BTW, Happy Father's day to all you dads out there! Hope you got some ride time in.

  6. So, Squidley and I got together yesterday to work on my bike. With alot of time and a large amount of patience with my lack of knowledge, Brad helped me to get progressives in the forks. We bled the clutch and all 3 brakes. We also did a little tweaking on the carbs, but that will have to be another day.

I had a really fun ride home last night after the long day. I really appreciate the help I have received and the knowledge imparted to me.

I still have to fix the rats nest of wires the PO left me, figure out the weirdness with the carbs (starting with new wires, plugs, coils, and diaphrams), fix some major plastics issues ( or find some replacement pieces), and ride the heck out of the bike. I must say, the progresives and the little bit of carb tweaking really made the bike fun to ride. I really cant wait to get the engine running perfectly. The bike is already scary fast.

I must send out a thanks to Brad's wife. I appreciate the good supper she made for us.

  7. All,

I know this has been asked many times before, but I cannot seem to find anyone who has progressive springs in stock. I am redoing my forks this coming weekend and need to get some in a hurry. I also need seals and dust covers for my forks. I have an 87 Venture Royale. I live in the Houston, TX area. Does anyone know where I can buy some for a reasonable price? THe couple of places i called, buckeye and pioneer, dont have em in stock. :bang head:

    Thanks in advance,

  8. Hey all. Thanks for all the replies. I have received loads of helpful information. I am ordering a set of progressives for the forks, and hopefully a set of diaphragms. There is some solder and electrical that needs to be done as well. I left a message for Squidley and am hoping to have a mini MD scheduled soon. I don't want to ride the bike till the suspension is fixed as the fork seals are leaking badly. (discovered on a ride to work downtown and back on Wednesday)

I went ahead and paid for a membership as well. I really have found this forum to be very friendly and helpful. I cannot truthfully weigh in on the 1st gen vs SLOW 2nd gen argument as I've only ridden my 1st gen. However, I can say that I like my first gen better cuz it is mine. Lol.

Thanks for everything, guys. I look forward to meeting some of you in the future.

  9. Thanks to all who responded. I appreciate the quick response. Working on a bike with no knowledge can be intimidating. I adjusted the rear brake and clutch shifter today. I can stop much better and shift much smoother now. I also cleaned the contacts on the battery, and she seems to be starting a tad bit easier. I wonder if it has anything to do with me starting and riding the bike as well? Sometimes problems happen just because of non-use, and when it gets used, it starts working right. Btw, I put sea foam in the tank and have driven it some. I can't ride it like I stole it around here cuz it is too dangerous, and I don't have long stretches of open road to get it up to speed. I barely get to 50 mph locally. So, I just rev it high before I shift. I assume that does the same thing. I look forward to many trips on this bike and at least 100k more miles.
