  1. Hucklekatt, i am fully aware of the fact that 32mm carbs were used in the newer models but really what does that have to do with my problems with the 28 mm carbs that are on my bike? to restate I have a 1999 royal star standard or xvz1300a or royal star boulevard ( no it's not a suzuki) with 4 28mm mikuni carbs and am getting really poor mpgs. It is firing on all 4 cylinders. I have a modified air box, jardine slash cut 4into 4 exhaust and a barons jet kit installed. you are absolutely correct I am not mechanicly(can't spell either) inclined which is why someone else installed the jet kit. My question is this; with the mods that have been done what jets should be in the carbs? and what if anything would you do to improve mpgs? thanks, Chris
  2. pegscraper, I have a 99 royal star 1300a got questions on mikuni 28mm carbs and really poor gas milage. I saw your comments and you seem to know,so... help! air box mod pipes stage one kit. don't know what jets are in it what jets would you suggest. any other advice you can give me would be most appreciated. anyone else got any ideas or better yet proven ideas? Thanks Chris
  3. Squidly, got any pictures of the wheel without the covers? thanks,Chris
  4. will stratoliner floating rotors bolt up to a royal star front wheel? if not are there any floating rotors that will? I love my royal star but really don't like the look of the front rotors and covers. Thanks, Chris
  5. Well I'm sorta blown away by y'alls responses. Thank .you, thank you, thank you. I will post a vague itinerary soon and will learn my way around this forum better as time goes by. 6. aloha from Hawaii, sometime in late may my girlfriend and I are going to pick up my 99 royal star standard custom from the dock in San Diego and go pick up the trailer I just bought there (trailmaster Arizona) and start on a year long tour of the lower 48 we are going to attempt to visit all 48 states. It's gonna be great! She just retired @ 58 and I'm taking a year off. we are excited to say the least. We plan on cadillac camping with rest stops when we need them. my question is this how do I meet you guys ? when are there rallys and maint. days ? where are they? etc. etc. Any input is welcome. thanks, Chris
  7. Thanks Beau-Kat! Just the factual knowledge I was hoping for! Bought a final drive off a 98 v-max today. My reasoning for the swap is this (and please your opinion is welcomed) my girlfriend and I are renting out the house here in Honolulu for a year, shipping the bike to San Diego picking up the trailer (trailmaster arizona) I just purchased and going everywhere in the lower 48 for up to a year.
  8. boulevard was a model of royal star, mine started out life as a 1999 royal star xvz 1300 a boulevard and yes suzuki uses that name also, to the the rest of you thank you for your input it is appreciated
  9. I'm going to do the final drive swap and see an 07 vmax final drive on ebay with the speedo sensor holes will this work? thanks,Chris
  10. what years v-max final drives are direct swap for 99 rs? some years have speedo sensor and some not, correct?
  11. did seafoam 3 tanks ago and just remember about a year ago had the carbs gone through and when it was done they found lots of water in the fuel. I been getting gas in the same station forever could be water in the fuel again? you'd like it would run a lot worse than it does
  12. thank you both, here in Honolulu it's almost all stop and go. when my friend did the jets a couple of years I think we may have gone to the next size larger pilot? jet and supposedly the yamaha guys synced the carbs awhile back but will follow thru on your suggestions and report back
  13. Aloha from Hawaii! help!! My 99 royal star seems to run great but 26 mpg? Big air mod pipes, carbs rejetted all a couple years back. I wasn't even concerned about milage but coming to mainland for very extensive tour (everywhere) and will be pulling a trailer. have tried riding more gently (made no difference) flipping over to reserve between 90 and 100 miles ran bike and felt pipes to see if running on all 4(it is) just put in barnett friction plates and springs (clutch was slipping @ high speed) Thoughts, ideas? any help will be welcomed. Chris
