  1. While riding my 2002 Venture I came to a stop light and out of the blue my RPMs dropped from 1000 down to about 500 and then back to 1000. When I went to pull away I killed the engine. I was able to restart the engine but had to give the bike much more power to keep from killing it. I was able to get it home but my idle is all up and down. I did change the fuel filter this spring. Any ideas where to start troubleshooting???

  2. When the bike was band new, I never used the choke unless it was in the 30s or 40s. Now after 29,000 miles I am finding I need to use the choke especially if it has sat for several days no matter what the temp However after the ride to work I can usually start home and not need it.

  3. Can someone help me figure this one out on my 2002 Venture? My low fuel light no longer comes on. My fuel gage still works however it no longer switches over to F and counts up showing how far I’ve gone at my reserve level. I have checked the bulb and it is OK. So my question is this. Is it possible that my fuel-sending unit in the tank is still faulty even though it does work for the fuel gage? What other things should I check before changing the sending unit or how can the sending unit be tested to know if it needs changed?

  4. I wouldn't wouldn't worry at all about buying a used Venture as long as it has been taken care of. My 02 Midnight Venture is for sure the best ride I have ever owned. My wife loves it for two up riding as well. One option for looking at used Ventures is on e-bay. In fact there is one one there now. A 2000 for $7,500.00 with 38,370 miles. Looks very clean.

  5. Just got rid of my wifes 99 Chrysler 300M what a pile of junk. Last Chrysler I will ever own. She is now driving an 08 Lincoln MKX. I drive a 05 AWD Chevy Astro Van in the winter and a 1995 Ford Probe GT that has been a pet project and now looks like a brand new car, has only 75,000 on her. Then obviously my 02 Midnight Venture tops the list whenever its not raining or freezing.

  6. No kidding, I just blew 19" of new snow from the drive way in zero degree temperatures and 35 to 50 mph winds. Noe fun except for getting to stay home from work as do nearly the entire state.

  7. My 02 Venture backfired at deceleration right off the showroom floor. I just thought this was normal until I started reading that it was not. I had a carb sync set and when I hooked it up I saw right away how far out of sync the carbs were. I could not believe it since it was a new bike. Once the carbs were in sync the backfire went away completely. When I say backfire I mean it sounded like a gun going off. Now regarding the rumble, I did not really notice a rumble until I recently made a modification to my pipes. Now that the bike has more of a deep tone I do notice a nice rumble at deceleration kind of like a nice V8 winding down.

  8. I guess I would have to ask, is the ignition switch failing simply because the light current is passing through it, or is the switch failing because its being used to make and break the current for the lights and the contacts in the switch cannot handle this. If the switch is failing because of the current for the lights running through it, then adding a relay isn't going to stop the current flow. If the switch is failing because of the making and breaking of the current, then by using the light switch for the lights to turn them off first and then back on after the ignition is closed transfes the making and breaking to the light switch and away from the ignition contacts thus eliminating the need for the relay.

  9. I have had two Metzler 880s on the rear of my bike. The first one split inside the tread at about 5000 miles. When I showed this to the Cycle Clenic the first question they had was, what pressure have you been running. When I told them I was following the sticker in the trunk the guy about fell over. After changing the tire to my second 880 he told me to run it at 50psi period, one up, two up whatever, run it at 50psi. I have been doing that and watching the tire very close and now have over 7000 miles on this one and it still looks close to new.

  10. I have had my 02 since I bought it new in April of 03 and it has had this whine from the start. I didn't think much of it as it was there when the mechanic at the dealer turned the bike over to me and when quetioned he explained the square cut gears. After 20,000 miles the bike is still going strong and I have not had any problems. On my bike this whine is most noticable during decelaration. You will not regret buying one.
