The GoldWing takes the exact same tires as the Eluder/Venture, so any info there is good here. I use the Bridgestone Driveguard Run Flat in a 205/55-16 and have 18,000 miles on it. It should go to about 26,000 with the amount of tread on it. It puts my speedometer exactly right on based on my gps. Would use it again.

Fits fine without any mods other than with the tow bar from Rivco that needed some shaving of bracket in one corner.

This is the ticket (experience) I was looking for... as a first timer I'm a little uncertain of the confidence at higher speed and corners but if you have that many miles on this new model bike then I'll give it a shot. If a guy thinks for less than 2 seconds about the death wobble I think it's pretty plain to see that if you put a 7 or 8 inch tire on a 3.5 or 4 inch rim something bad is going to happen. These bikes have a 5 inch rim so I won't expect worse handling than a back bike tire wore flat down the middle.

    Thanks

    JR

  2. I need a rear tire already at 11000km I'll be lucky to get another 2000km while risking my neck on a blowout. I've absolutely had it with over priced bike tires especially for this bike at probably 400.00 installed to go almost no where for the money spent.

I think I want the Dunlop Run Flat but is it the 205/55R/16, 55 or 60 series? The speedometer is faster so correction is welcome. Anybody want to share experience using a car tire on this bike? I know the goldwing guys use car tires but I dont have a wing

    Thanks in advance

    JR

  3. Actually you can chrome Stainless steel, many shops will chrome plate Stainless. Some even Nickel Chrome it. Nickel plate it, then chrome after, produces a bit better finish.

but your right, I shouldn't have said no you can't chrome, I should have said don't bother to chrome. I feel bad now. I blew this pic up so anyone can see the new Yamaha foot board chrome and the round disc next to it and the pipe for comparison

my bad, I should have typed some more. The problem with these covers is that he needed to weld tabs on the back for dipping in his tanks for chroming. At that point we found out the pieces are Stainless and could be polished which was cheaper than chroming. I know what you mean about show chrome finish but I can tell you that most average people would be hard pressed to tell the difference between show chrome and how these turned out. Compared to the satin finish Yamaha used and according to the pics these turned out like a million bucks and guys with these bikes can do this at home

  5. Absolutely yes, chrome is my favorite color as the song goes and it don't show dirt as fast as black. Chrome ages with a lot more grace than black. Very nice looking bike there.:thumbsup2:

Thanks for the compliment !! Yeah good point.....Chrome ages with a lot more grace than black. Give me chrome any day, these kids put John Deere flat black primer on everything they drive, I think they would look a lot better if they did the windows too

  6. That looks great, So I know the cover on the right side is a cast metal, but the cover on the left side is plastic no? If it is Plastic where did you send it to get chromed and black coated again?

Oh ok, I see what your saying....on both sides of the bike you take the air cleaner looking thing cover off and you will find the metal is glued to the black plastic cover. I had the metal polished and then glued back on the black

    did that help?

  7. Totally agree on the chrome thing, and it looks really perfect with that red! Beautiful bike for sure.

    Craig

Thanks for the compliment !! You can do the same thing, it's Stainless Steel. I found out how expensive to have the stuff polished. In hind site I would buy the most expensive tools and do it myself and have money left over I'm sure to what I paid. I thought the stuff was metal but after I took it to the guy a magnet won't stick.

  8. We know you have just the right amount of chrome when we can see the reflection of you taking a picture for us lop eared :photographing: loving varmints in your VERY purdy chrome air breather :big-grin-emoticon::thumbsup:!!!!

And,, by the way JR,, you are correct,, Red is faster,, I know cause ecbaatz told me so last night in VR chat :big-grin-emoticon:

    GORGEOUS SCOOT JR!! CONGRATS!!

Yeah the reflection part, I hid behind my cell phone best I could. Ohhh, way faster...it's a Rocket now...lol Thanks for the compliment !!

  9. This is exactly what I want to do to mine. I can't find a chrome shop around here at the moment. I like the air cleaner cover as well. What did you do to the other side of the engine and the plastic cover? (piece looks like the air cleaner cover). Also where did you get the passenger floorboard bottom piece from if you don't mind me asking?

I need to take more better pics outside but for now you'll get the idea of the left side in my attached pic. I hope the fact that the Air Cleaner cover is not plastic will not disappoint you...lol

It's all Stainless Steel that Yamaha painted that god awful dull yellow.

Passenger floor board idea came off my 2006 Road Star sitting next to this bike looked like it would bolt right on so I ordered it. Hardly any left in the country but Texas dealer had two sets. Expensive but it's only money anyway I ordered but they don't fit. Upon looking it was a tiny little matter of grinding most of only one of the mounting bolt head enough to get the screw to clear so the boards will fold up.

    I'll try attach another pic

  10. I left the bike at the dealer on Wednesday and called Yamaha Corp. and explained the on going oil leak problem I am having with the bike. I paid cash for the bike and I told Yamaha I wanted my money back or a another SVTC. She is contacting the sales rep for MotoWorld and also the dealership to investigate the service record on my bike. Like I said before I really like this bike in so many ways, I will buy another. I seem to have the only new Star Venture that leaks oil. Wish me luck!https://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=116824

This is absolutely crazy what Yamaha is doing to us. My GPS maps don't work at all. I paid cash and got the 2020 May 15th 2019. May 16th I got an email from my dealer stating ...

I talked to our Yamaha service rep about the navigation set-up. He will be back in his office tomorrow and help me figure it out.

I will get back to you tomorrow....

Well, today is June 21st and like we all know,,,, tomorrow never comes.

I asked for a new scratch key code because the dealer tried to load my maps May 15th and failed. Now I get an error that my code has been used (belongs to someone else) and I need get another code. The dealer says Yamaha will not give me a new code. I asked for a new head unit but answer is no, asked for a new bike answer is no, asked for my money back answer is no. I guess I have only one alternative left....how sad is that !! My mileage is 1070km about 630mi. Like you I love the bike, I mean like if I only get one word to describe it ... awesome would be it!

  11. I pretty much agree with him. My phone is much easier to put a destination in that the NAV system OR a Garmin. I never use the NAV system on the bike or even in my vehicles. That being said, If it was not working correctly after I paid so much for a bike, I would still expect it to be repaired.

I have used a few Garmin units and overall very pleased especially compared to Google when you consider data charges in the USA for Canadians. The way Yamaha emphasizes the technology and comfort of these bikes at the price point I would like to say the stuff had better work

  12. If it helps, I met "Long Haul Paul" (3w's dot longhaulpaul dot com) at the Laconia Rally in NH. last weekend. He had a Garmin on the the dash of his SVTC, and commented that for routes and travel info, his phone is actually the best of his three units. "...but I'm always checking routes, so I use all three at the same time...."[/quote

yeah...there's always a work around but for the money it should work. Yamaha is pretty impressed with the unit as stated here if you scroll down a little ....

For myself I have used a few GPS units but in this case I paid enough money that I shouldn't have to have two on this bike, if the cruise quits I'll get that fixed instead of buying a throttle lock, and if the trunk won't stay closed i won't be using a bungee cord for very long. My 700.00 phone is not going in the rain or velcroed to the handle bar, it will stay safe for in case I really need it. I also have a H.O.G. map to find the roads I really want and then just program

  13. new to this forum, but I did see a post from another which shows the GPS set-up steps in a manual.

You already have the 2020 in Canada? I thought/think it's not being released in the lower 48 until November....

Yes, 2020 for sure that I have, serial number is an L.

I wish the GPS had a hard RESET because it seems the dealer tried to load my GPS and failed so when I try to update the GPS I get an error message stating the code has been used... get another code. Yamaha will not issue me a new key code saying that I will have to wait for an update meanwhile it looks to me on this forum that everybody got their GPS working....

  14. Greetings JR,

Thought I would chime in, I have experienced the fade issues with the stereo but no issues yet with the GPS. I did find that if i turned down the bass on the stereo to -1 or -2 then the fade quite. I think it was trying to drive the speakers too hard and causing a type of overload condition which is why it was fading in and out. At any rate, I hope somone else can help you out with your GPS issues. Have you tried updating the Nav?

    Thanks for your reply...

I took a nice easy ride today nothing over 100kph (60mph) and the radio was actually not bad. I was having severe issues around 70 mph and above. Before I left though I did set the tone to zero, it was 2 or 3 ticks to the bass side and I thought it was much better today but then it was a slow ride. I'll try it some more but now listening to you here, I'm thinking I know why the head unit has provision for an external speaker amp. I bet just using my headset there would be no issue at all. Good... so that might be fixed. Almost bought the Indian...if you want tunes at any speed that bike will make you happy.

The GPS has R12.0.6 I believe is the latest update. The screen shows North America and the pointer has me within 100 miles of about where I should be on the left coast of Canada but that's it.

  15. Wow...what a nice bike!!...doesn't feel half it's size really. Handles easily, smooth and comfortable 2 up or not, powerful, corners, braking, responsive, not real hot, air flow control, suspension, exhaust note will open up after awhile so what's not to like ? ... to start with my GPS is frozen and the radio fades in and out quickly at speed can't even listen to a song I know...lol

The problem is not that I've only had the bike over a couple weeks and the dealer is clueless and Yamaha seems to ignore me, it's the fact that I have the same head unit as the first 2018 from a year and a half ago that I have read about GPS issues even on this forum and they still can't figure the thing out ???..really ???

So I'm wondering if everybody got the GPS issues figured out? I know one guy I think from this forum that bought a Garmin so he could go on a trip. I'm just not willing to do that because I paid large for the head unit to be included in perfect working order especially after the trouble with the 2018's, I'd sooner give the bike back...seriously guys, I'm depressed, Yamaha is not getting me going here...

I'm guessing that if everybody does not have the problem then only some of the head units are bad so give me another and at least try something. The radio fade has never happened on any of my other bikes in the same area and stations. I did read here that the antenna's are right and left only and mine were mixed up but even now I still have the fade issue.

Has anyone got a comment to help me fix my GPS that I could try ?

  16. Hi All.

Wondering if anyone has had this problem: I purchased a 16 gig USB drive and downloaded the info from my new 2018 Star Venture. I also downloaded the Toolbox software to my home computer and inserted the USB to activate my navigation system. The toolbox must have recognized my USB because it asked me for the activation code which was revealed when I scratched the bottom of the plastic card I received when I bought the bike. Unfortunately it has rejected my activation code. No matter how many times I have tried, it still does not allow me to get any information upload onto my bike's system. Why would my activation code be rejected? My dealership is clueless.

Thanks ahead of time. Hope you can help.

    Tugboat Rick

Wonder how you made out ... I have the exact same problem. We must have the exact same dealer too...lol

I can't load mine either, same error, rejects my activation code as well. If you got it figured out I'd like to know what you did.... Thanks
