  1. Hello,

I have a friend that owns a RSV 2007 and want to lower the back end, is there anyone on this board that knows the lenght of the links required to lower the bike?

    Many thanks,

  2. Thanks guys for the response.

Ok so what I'm reading here is that I have to replace the whole thing. I cannot just buy an antenna and replace my AM/FM with a CB. It looks like I will have to rewire as well. The CB I got from eBay has a splitter so I'm assuming I can do the single antenna. The Marshal Mod looks like what I want to do. In that description it says to get a 12' premade coax and I'm not sure but 12' seems a little long. Any thoughts?

    Hello Wayne,

I bought the Marshall mod a few weeks ago but will not be installing it on my 99 Venture (second generation) because I just bought an other motorcycle.

Let me know if you are interested in buying it.

  3. Zumo 550 is the way to go, mount it on your handle bar with the Moto cradle, hook it up to the battery, to your auxilliary audio input and let it guide you to your destination.

The 550 let you create your own routes, let you exchange routes with fellow riders, has MP3 reader, picture viewer, bluetooth, XM capabilities .

    Great unit for bikers.

  4. The 2008 update for my Nuvi 350 went off without a hitch and I got all of North America. I wonder if theyre different for different models? The memory question is a good one too. Mine has an exansion slot to add memory. I use it for music, but can also add more maps POIs etc. I'd be interested to know what the problem ended up being so we can avoid it in the future. Good luck.

The Zumo 550 has an internal memory of 1.2 Gig and has an extention slot for additional memory that can contain maps, mp3, and pictures.

For sure each and every model of gps has different characteristics and options.

As far as updating the maps I did a pre-test with my Zumo and the ability to load new maps with Mapsource is present the only thing I didn't do is actually complete the process, reloading over 1 gig of data in the gps could take some time.

  5. If you are a Mapsource user you will have to install City Navigator V8 (I presume this is what we are talking about) on your hard disk, then connect your Zumo, then select all the maps you want with Mapsource, then download all those maps into your gps.

I beleive that the actual maps in your gps will be overwritten, this is the way it works with my Gpsmap 60CSX but I have not tried it yet with my Zumo 550. (latest maps aboard)

  6. Thanks for the tip. I think I will try that before I drop $150 on a new switch.

    :lightbulb:

    Hello again,

Please note that there are 2 articles on the main switch on that site, both under Tech Lib, Second gen, Electrical.

Also please note that removing the 2 screws, holding the switch assembly on the bike, could be quite a challenge, I remember having a hard time and having to use a punch to start them unscrew. (blue locktite used)

  7. I had the opportunity to test drive a Spyder a few weeks back and really enjoyed the ride.

I own a Bombardier ATV and I my personnal feeling is that it drives like an ATV except the Spyder is more powerfull and stick to the road in tight corners, thanks to their advance technologie. Good acceleration, good suspention, solid engine, very neat looking, advance abs and stability systems, priced right (around $19000) and you don't have to worry..... you will never drop it.

On the negative side.... not much protection against wind, not much comfort for the passenger and limited options available for the moment.

I wouldn't replace my RSV with a Spyder, it's a different class machine, but I would own both if I had the $$$.

  8. Reply in blue

but did you happen to try using someione elses headset/microphone/ The problem could be in your helmet headset and not in the cb itself.

This question is very valid but at this point I don't know anyone with similar setup. I will keep this in mind and do a test as soon as possible.

Both headsets are genuine Yamaha CB/stereo head set PN:STR-4XY89-30-KT and both are exhebiting the same problem either connected to front or to back.(driver-passenger)

This is just a thought, but I always try the simplest things first.

    Good luck.

  9. Hi George,

    My replies in BLUE

Remove Antenna connecter at the opposite end.

Read Resistance from Antenna element to the center conductor at opposite end, Should be Zero Ohms, ( dead short )

Now read the mount base point thru the outer shield of cable to the Connecter at opposite end, should be Zero ohms, ( dead short )

Now read at opposit end, Center conductor to the outer shield, should be Open, NO connectioin, ( Or Infiniate )

---- Question: Is you AM FM Radio Reception Normal ??? IF So, then your antenna is most likley OK.

I have a second generation RSV so there is 2 antennas, one for the CB and one for the radio.

I just did some reception test and I can perfectly hear what others are saying, even if they are far away. (up to a point)

---- Question: You say the CB Reception is OK, Can you hear stations talking 10 to 20 miles away, and maby some Skip Reception from other States ?? If So, then your antenna is most likley OK> ((( OR, can you only hear another station within a couple of blocks? take some time with this check )))

As far as I can tell the antenna seems to be fine, I just finished some tests and the CB reception is what I should be expecting.

From the looks of the photo, you posted, I doubt there is a problem there, at that point, UNLESS the OHM meter readings Confirm that there is one,

If ohm meter readings Indicate, a Bad Cable, it could also be at the other end. OR the Cable may have been damaged at some point between the antenna and the CB receiver.

I am assumeing that on the 2nd Gen the ONE antenna feeds both CB and the AM/FM,

----- Correct me on this if I am wrong.

HOwever if AM is OK, then your problem is most likley the Audio from the Microphone is not getting to the CB transmitter,

The audio is getting out there but the signal is very very weak, people are saying that they can hardly hear what I am saying and that my signal is noisy.

OR, the Transmitter is actually bad, But this would be very Rare !!!!

Then check the cableing from the Intercom system, cables to the CB Unit. Start by locateing all the Plugs, remove and install them several times.

( Pull up the service manual on this web site if you do not have the service manual. Schematics near the last chapter show plugs )

I have the service manual and have done this, maby I missed a cable somewhere but that would surprise me.

Is your Audio good thru your Intercomm system to the passenger position ????? If no audio to the passenger on intercom, then obviously there would not be any to the CB either.

The audio between the passenger and the driver is fine, I even tried the intercom with both helmets on an other bike and both helmets are working great.

Do you have another CB unit in a Car, or a hand held unit ??? If so, have sombody listion on other unit, KEY the Mic, and you should see a Signal Strength Indication On the Other CB unit installation .

I just done this, the signal strengh on the other CB isfine but audio very very weak.

This would indicate your Tran, and Antenna are OK, but No Audio from MIC is getting to the CB Transmitter,

What you are describing is similar to my problem but not quite, some audio is going through because people can hear me but they are saying that my audio is like a wisper.

( Head set cableing , mic element, dirty plug connections between bike electronic units to the CB Transmitter itself )

Do a few more tests, and post, we need a few more CLUES, on this one.

I have open the fairing and reconnect the CB cord (yellow), the Ext lead (white) the headset lead(Red) and put some dielectric grease in those connectors.

I also did the same for all connections under the passenger's seat.

Not sure what to do next!!!

  10. Answers to your questions in BLUE:

Have you not been into the CB case under the trunk yet?

    No not yet

There is a connection that pulls apart, between the antenna wire and the CB, in the plastic case that holds the CB.

    OK

What kind of trouble are you having with the CB?

I can hear perfectly what other are transmitting but the can hardly hear me, the audio portion of the signal is very weak.

Did you recently replace the antenna or any part of the antenna, per chance?

No, just looking at all possibilities, part of my debugging process.

  11. Hi gibvel

Do you know if there is a way to verify that the antenna connection is good?

What do you do with this connection when you have to remove the CB unit to get it repair?

Sorry, they are actually crimped into place. Your can't get it out short of cutting it off. You may be able to try and uncrimp the metal piece just above the wire and pull the wire out. However this will necessitate putting a connector on the wire and...........well, it will necessitate getting a new mount for the CB antenna which can be quite pricey.
  12. Hello all,

Anybody knows how to uncouple the CB antenna base from the attached wire? I tried unscrewing the metal connector at the end of the wire... no go, I tried pulling on it... no go.

I don't want to break anything and I didn't find a way to remove it, anyone has done it???

I am actually chasing a CB transmit problem :sick:and want to make sure the antenna has a solid connection but as I said I can't get at it.

    Help and Thanks

    Hermann

  13. Hello all,

I am trying to locate the schematics and wiring diagrams for the radio and the CB on my 99 RSV but I am ending nowhere.

The sticker on the radio says:

    ------------------------------

    YAMAHA

    Model ER-1129V

    4XY-88132-00

    Clarion

    P\N 286-9182-00

    -------------------------------

    CB:

I didn't remove the trunk to see if there a label on the CB unit but I am sure there is one , is there someone who has the info?????? ( Yamaha model, Clarion model, P\N's etc.. )

Your help in locating the wiring diagrams will be greatly appreciated, I am having a CB transmit problem and I don't seems to be able to fix it with the recommended procedures. (cable connections=ok, mic direction=ok, antenna=ok )

Note that the intercom portion works great so I know both mics and both switches are working fine.

The problem with the CB is that the audio portion of the transmit signal is very weak (modulation), other people can hardly hear me but I can hear them clearly.

    Help!

    Thanks,

    Hermann

  14. Hi all,

Please note that I have the same problem with both helmets, 2 different microphones.

The problem is present with the driver and with the passenger, the microphone is facing the mouth and no change has been done to the antenna.

Dielectric grease was used on connections under the seat and some connections in the fairing.

Anybody knows where I can find detailed wiring diagram as well as schematics for the venture cb??? like I mentionned before I would like to be able to trace the mic audio down to the cb and also check the cb itself.

    HELP!!!!

    Thanks,

    Hermann

  15. Hello all,

I have been trying to debug a cb problem on my bike but I don't have a detailed wiring diagram so I can zoom down on possible cause.

Yes.. I splitted the fairing and used dielectric grease on contacts, I didn't open all connectors just the one pertaining to the communication between the driver and the passenger. I think know which one it is because I installed a mic-mute a little while back but I may be wrong.

Is it possible that the mic-mute will cause my transmit problem?

Here is the symptom: The cb transmit rf level seems to be ok but the modulated audio is extremely weak so other people can hardly hear me. All they hear is noise and some time my voice in the background. The communication between the driver and passenger is working fine.

I think that both transmit switches (driver and passenger) are OK and that both mics are working fine because we can communicate between driver and passenger no problem.

So I am looking for some advice and also for a place where I can get detailed wiring diagram so I can follow the audio signal coming from the microphones.

The Yamaha service manual doesn't help there is no way, for example, to follow the mic wiring diagram from the helmet to the cb unit.

One last question... where can I find the schematics for my cb??

    Thanks for your help

    Hermann
