  1. 1985 VR, started hearing a clappy noise at start up and would quiet down after warmed up. i thought it was the "H" Pipe rattle eveyone complaines about and since it was the end of the season I didnt think too much of it. However I have been going to start the bike up at least once a month and letting it reach operating temp before shutting down. This last time I was starting think maybe my clappy noise was engine related and not exhaust. Below is a link to the video I just shot from a cold start and walk around trying to see if I could pin point where the clappy noise was comming from. I am hoping someone here with more experience is able to recognize the sound and tell me if it's exhaust or engine. I am hopping for exhaust as I plan on doing the HD muffler MOD and weld up the "H" pipe in the early spring.

Thanks for your help. please use the link below to see the youtube video.

  2. There's an Ebay seller 'Mike's Covers' that makes a HD cover. It's US made and made to stand up to the elements. Sells for $65.95. I'm about ready to order a couple and see how they rate.

Condor, let me know how that turns out. I went to Wallyworld and they were out of stock on the XXL covers. I still have a few weeks before needing the cover and I can always order the one fro NewEnough for a few just a few bucks more.

:mo money: It's getting harder and harder keeping my wife convinced this is an

    inexpensive hobby.

  3. I just installed my headlamp bulb with a Silver Star Ultra. After install, low beam was dim but high beam was super bright. Now I get the headlamp message on display. After having it in for a week the low beam is not on at all but works on high beam. This morning low beam was on and very bright for a few minutes then went off. High beam still works fine.

Did not have any issues with the other unknown bulb that was installed from PO I was surprised to see the wattage to be 55/100 with no name or numbers on bulb just the words not for use in Germany. This is the old bulb.

Do you think the Silve Star is defective or my scooter just didnt like me changing out a perfectly good headlamp?

I would really like to run with the Silver Star as it is much brighter looking. Maybe with some of your suggestions I can get it to work.

Thank you for all of the support this site provides!

I know this happens every year, but I am more excited this year as I finaly have a scooter to join the fun. We seem to have a few riders out here in the West, maybe we could work something out so we could meet one day. The actual event is offically only on Sunday but folks start rolling into town on Friday. I hope I get the chance to meet some of the great folks from these forums.

  5. Would someone take a look their first gen center stand and let me know if the spring is compressed or extended while the scooter is on the center stand. I just got the parts in to put the lever arm and spring on so I can use the center stand but not sure which way it goes. The way I think it supposed to go gives me the suspiscion my spring is too long.

    Thank you,

    Bob

  6. I am a fairly new Venture rider myself and I have been having the same issue, but after a few conversations on the forums here I have found that 42-45 in the rear and 11-13 in the front with dampner on 2 for myself and I am at 300lbs. Have not had a passenger on board yet but will move dampner to 4 and rear shock PSI to 50+ when I do.

Like many others have said, you will have to play around with it and bit and find what you like based on your style of riding.

  7. Ok now you can put Road kings on your first gen. I put them on mine. I used a 1 3/4 pipe I had bent at the local muffler shop . Two 1 3/4 clamps from the muffler shop and a set of buckeye perfomance clamps for the hd mods( found on ebay for 34 bucks or so) . I put high heat copper rtv sealant inside the 1 3/4 pipe on the collector side and the buckeye perfomance clamps on the muffler side with no sealant. The mufflers bolted up to my trailer hitch but there are a few who have made their own brackets to mount it to the lower bag bolts. Mother and cimack77 are the ones who come to mind.

    Hello David,

is there a part number for the buckeye performance clamps? What is the HD Mod? Any chance you have the specs from the muffler shop of how long and at what angle the bend was on custom made piper?
