  1. The consensus from this and another RS site is dirty old oil, yes, it looks a light brown color. I did find that small square black cover this morning. About how much DOT4 do I need to purchase and do I need some type of suction device or just open up the bleeder and drain, add fluid, pump lever etc.?

BTW, I was told there is a PDF file for the owners/service manual for the Royal. Does anyone know where I can find that file? I guess my other option is to order a Clymers manual form the dealer.

    Thanks

    Les R.

  2. Well, it actually took me about 5-6 hours, but the end result is very nice. I installed a set of new old-stock Road King mufflers on my 98 RSTC2. The hardest part was making my brackets, but I got to use my new wire-feed welder, Ye-ha. Sound is much better than the drilled out stock mufflers. BTW, I didn't drill them out, they were already that way when I bought the bike. They sounded terrible. Getting the new mufflers to slide over the exhaust pipe was a real pain, with lots of grinding and filing, but finally got it.

Thanks to all for the information and pics.:cool10:

  3. Thanks for the information. My bike is a 98 RSTC with dual exhaust. My mufflers look to be welded and I don't think they will just slip off. From what I'm reading, I think that only applies to the new generation (2005-present). It should be a fun project and should be better than the stock pipes that someone before me drilled out. Currently sounds like a V-8 that is misfiring.

  4. I have a 98 RSTC and purchased a set of 98 RK pipes last week, new take-offs and a set of V-twin chrome clamps. I will make some brackets to hold the new pipes in-place. My question is, where do I actually make the cut to remove the stock pipes? Is there a thread or post that shows the place. I don't want to screw this part up. What type of cutting device did you guys use? lesrub@aol.com Thanks Les
