  1. This should be must reading for all of us. This act may be addressed primarily for automobiles, but is surely an issue concerning anyone who has had their wallet emptied by a dealer. MC dealers are made from the same cloth as car dealers. As a matter of fact more and more are being run by high end auto dealerships, Harley included. Apparently all the MoCo cares about when they sell a franchise is how much money do you have to invest! So check this white paper out and see for yourself. It is a PDF file, so you will need Acrobat or a similar product to read it.

Also this is the website for the organization:

  2. Unfortunately it seems all the manufacturers share a problem and needs to address. The Gold Wing , IF you buy one will definitely need a better set of Neck bearings. They will wobble on decel sooner or later and yes after fighting Honda they will replace...with same JUNK. But I put in All Balls Bearings to fix it once and for all.(While I was at it updated the front springs for $75.00 more). The RSV in most peoples cases the rear shock, and it seems HD on the stator. NOT CUTTING ANY bike down just an observation that the manufacturers SHOULD address the reoccuring problems.

Yeah to that! Just dropped almost a grand to fix my Road King! There were bare wires from the regulator that looked to me to have been pinched and probably shorted out the stator and the regulator to the frame. I'm guessing somebody pinched 'em when they lifted the bike with a bike jack. I had the work done by a local Harley guy (NOT a dealer) and while he was at it he found my clutch cable was binding up, so he threw a good used cable he had in his part supply on for me! I can't believe the work involved with those bikes. Took it out last night and it ran like a champ! :cool10:

  3. I'd actually probably try to see if anyone in the media was interested. That is really, really, REALLY lousy service for a dealership. Even used CARS get 30 day guarantees now (from dealers).:yikes:

I hope you get it fixed without too much $$$$ :biker:

    Sorry you got betrayed :(

Need to clarify something. The sales manager did the poor service, they didn't refuse to take the bike, said they would pick it up the next day, but I have waaay too much pride to deal with someone that does me like that. I won't do it! So it's gonna cost me for my pride. That said I don't want to slam the dealer too much. Just the sales manager. I'd let them do the work if I got over the insult (but I'm not likely to do that), I just wouldn't recommend anyone BUY from them! There now I feel soooo much better!:depressed:

  4. Can we do a rewind?? I'm the guy that was going to do so much more riding this summer. I need another chance. Where in the He** did it go and what was I doing???:duck::confused24:

    You were watching your garage........Sorry!:depressed:

  5. So you bought this bike 12 days ago, the stator is toast and the dealer won't fix it for you? Didn't it come with at least a 30 day warranty? (used bikes around here from dealers come with 30 day warranties, usually not worth a thing but in this case...)

    I'd be REALLY ticked!

    Oh yeah......Ticked ain't the word!

But screw me once, shame on you....etc, etc!

    :soapbox:

  6. its my understanding that its in the shop already. im not laughing, cuz my blonde is broke, but just sayin.......

Yeah Mike it is, the stator burnt out, so I called the Stealer and the sales manager said he would have picked it up and I waited and waited and waited.....then I called and talked to the service manager cause the sales manager was busy with another suck.....sorry sale. The service manager said 'uhhhh, got no order here to pick your bike up', so I told him to tell the sales manager to shove his dealership you know where!

Forunately I have a local Harley shop (not dealer) in my neighborhood and he has it! I won't name the dealer, cause that would be sour grapes and would do no good anyhow but the dealer is in Brandon Florida.....OOOPS! My bad! Honest, it just slipped out!:stickinouttounge:

  7. Too bad, I bet you have traded MY carbtune for some labor to replace the stator. :stickpoke:

Changing the stator is not a real hard job.:stirthepot:

    Ouch!

Yeah I don't doubt it, but with the money I got from Mike, it don't hurt so much and I don't have to do the work myself! Sooo, I hope your feelings aren't hurt toooo bad, and we don't have a Wiscottsin/Florida conflict over this issue! I spelled that right, dint I?

    :stirthepot: :stirthepot:

Seriously I thought Mike responded first. So no hard feelings, Okay?

  8. You can't swap out the AD's. The MKI's are hydralic and the MKII's are electrical. When I changed mine to the MKII's I left the AD's on but didn't wire them up. Progressives and the CLASS took care of any 'diving' when hitting the brakes...

You are right Condor, but what I was saying is if he puts the lower legs from a MkII on his MKI he does have to use a MkII AD or blank them off, which was what you said! Right?

    Thanks

  9. after changing the plugs, changing the oil, i decided to install skydocs shim kit before i synced the carbs using the carbtune pro i got from zane. thanks again zane. 3 carbs, no problem. last carb, DOH! i must have put the nylon nut ever so slightly wrong, and SNAP! broke a diaphragm housing. lack of patience i suppose. only had about a good 2 hours of clear weather before the rain came this weekend. i found some new ones on ebay. so i bought 2, 1 for a backup. and i got 2 needle kits, just for spares.:Avatars_Gee_George:

Sorry for your problems, but I got a bigger oine! Went to the store yesterday and stopped to get gas. When I tried to start it, it wouldn't! Like a dead battery! Got a jump start and took it to a local shop to have them test it and the stator was shorted! It wasn't charging at all! Got he dealer on the phone and they are going to pick it up and fix it! Hoping no charge since they should have caught it when they serviced it prior to the sale, but I'm not holding my breath! Rats! If they don't I'm looking at a lot of money! I can't do that kind of work anymore, so I'm kinda screwed!

  10. We will stop at the Dairy Queens and wait for you!!

Just don't get that Hardley attitude. Its not about what you ride but that you RIDE!!

Never had one and never will! (The Hardley attitude that is) See ya at the donut shop as was mentioned!:rotfl:

  11. I know I'm gonna get raked over the coals for this, but I have, for good and bad reasons been a HD person. I liked the MK2 Venture for it's power and comfort, but I have a long history with HD and this will be the last one I will own. I found a REALLY clean 99 FLHP cop bike (yeah, it's WHITE) and got a good trade in for the Royale for it, so I bought it. I will at least maintain my membership here for the remainder of the time and maybe longer. What the heck the people here are great and have helped me a LOT with the Venture. Saved me a ton of money! Thanks guys! I really appreciate your help. I have skills enough to handle repairs on the Harley, ya know they ain't that complicated!:rotf:

I will be around for the time being though. Thanks to all of you again! Too many to mention, but as I said, a great place to belong to.

    Thanks.

Okay, go ahead all you Harley bashers, I can take it!:stickinouttounge:

  12. Just wondering if I posted this subject in the wrong forum, since there have been no replies to it, so I will repost it in this section. I'm still interested if someone has the answer.

I PM'ed Condor about a spark related issue and I posed the question to him as to why it is necessary to have a resistor sparkplug cap and a resistor sparkplug. Answer me this question, aren't resistor plugs primarily used to supress electric pulses from interfering with a radio? Yes ,Ventures do have a radio, but isn't the primary reason for owning a motorcycle to ride it and not listen to the c@#p on a radio. Any comments, suggestions, and/or helpful advice? Condor mentioned that he thought that VGoose had posted on this subject at one time. Soooo.....

    Thanks all

  13. Anyone that is offended or put off by someones comments or opinions has the upper hand in the matter. He or she has free will and a choice of fingers to use when clicking that mouse in their hand. Just as someone elses choice of reading material or movies or anything that someone chooses to entertain themselves with is easily avoided by clicking that button and getting away from the subject that so deeply bothers them. It is only natural to vent your opinions on someone who offends or disagrees with you, but to what end does it it serve? As others have stated, your choice is simple.....click it and go on to something that you enjoy. There is so much here to enjoy. Thanks again for your good work Don! EVERYONE appreciates the work that has been put into this site and I for one hope it will outlast all the rest! Cause it's the best!! :080402gudl_prv:
