  1. when i was sitting here thinking about some snarley thing to add to this thread, it came to mind how wonderful it is to have the vast choice of bikes we have to choose from. i think back at all the bikes i've had and the reasons i bought them and everyone of them had something that stood out that i liked about it. no matter how it looked to someone else i loved it. i think the new 3rd gen will be impressive and the all new 2010 wing will to. as will all the new bikes in the future. when i had my rstd i loved it. and all i heard and still do is people complaining about the whine, lack of fuel injection, the tape deck, the top heaviness, yamaha's lack of interest in the wants of there customers, and on and on. the only problem i had with my rstd was i have bad legs and it was only a matter of time before i dumped it at low speeds and my wife or i got hurt. had some close calls. it whined with the best of them but i did'nt care. i still loved it, and did'nt complain. now i got a wing. on another thread i have posted on, wings are junk and ventures are far better. not so. i have had both and they are both great bikes. i would be glad to ride and own either one. the wing has it's pluses and the venture has it's pluses. who cares whether your bike makes the top 35 list or where it rates in position. if you like it thats what counts. :clap2: snarley bill

We are especially fortunate to live in a time and place where we have great bikes and great roads to ride them on. I can't get enough of riding in North America. You won't hear me complaining about anything on either my 91 Venture or my 05 Wing. They both bring me incredible enjoyment.

    Ride on.

  2. Well when the Goobermint starts treating myself and other Vets as good as they treat ILLEGAL ALIENS I might have a change of heart.....but don't bet your house on it.

Boomer.......who firmly believes the only good politician is a dead one.

I like what Mark Twain said about politicians...

"Suppose you are a member of Congress, and suppose you are an idiot.......but, I repeat myself."

  3. Do em both....every chance you get You will like them. Stop in Cooke City and Red Lodge, both interesting. Red Lodge has some good places to eat. Cody has good motels...there's a nice Best Western there and go to the Buffalo Bill Museum. You can walk from the motel. You'll see lots of bikes in the area.

  4. I have the Shoei Platinum and really like it. I'm on my second one. It is light, which is important to me because after a few days on a long ride, my neck gets a little pain. Nice big ear cups inside so you can install speakers and still be very comfortable. The new model has removable pads so you can clean them. My only complaint before was that the pads were not removable.

  5. I just bought a Tourmaster Transition jacket. The quality and features are top notch. I haven't used it in any real cold weather yet, but rode at 46 degrees without the liner in and it was very comfortable. The vent system works great. I wore it last Sunday in 82 deg temps and as long I was moving it was cool and I could feel the vent air. When I stopped in traffic, it got a little warm. I think this jacket willk work from the low 30's to the mid 80'2.

It is comfortable, has a lot of pockets and vents and is just a very well thought out design.

    I recommend it.

I got mine from Jake Wilson online.

  6. Keeping the oil level below the half way mark on the sight glass and storing the bike on the centerstand also helps with the leaking around the stator wires, which you probably have. I maintain mine at about the 1/4 mark, 1/2 maximum and I check it often. Mine does not burn any and does not soil the airbox, just leaks a little onto the exhaust collector and ground.

  7. I take at least 3 per year. A 5-7 dayer in both spring and fall and a 2-3 weeker in the summer. I have a map of North America with must-do's marked in yellow high-lighter and have-done's marked in red.

I have the same thing with California roads and they're almost all red now, so I have to expand the radius.

    Last summer was Canadian Rockies.

    This summer is Black Hills.

For a biggy, I want to fly to New Zealand, rent a bike and ride around both islands.

I'm also planning an Alaska trip.

  8. Can the 2nd Gen be fitted with a centerstand? Is it a Yamaha item, or aftermarket? Anyone have one? I assumed they did not have one, but there is a 2nd gen on e-bay now that claims to have one.

    Thanks

  9. Big Bike Parts sells (sold) a lighted replacement for the upper reflector. I picked up one a year ago on sale from their website for about $60, half the original price. Mine was cracked. Anyway, it installed easy and looks like the original. I removed the emblems from my stock reflector and glued them on the new unit.

  10. The explanation of the volt meter function in the owners manual is pretty wimpy. It says if the needle drops into the yellow zone while riding, see your dealer.

    So, electrical experts;

Can the meter show a weak or dying battery? Would that be indicated by a low reading while the bike is not running? If so, I assume less than 10 volts or so would be an indication of a weak battery?

And, what if the reading is weak while riding? Is that a bad battery, or a bad stator?

  11. Hi John! We are leaving Columbia this Friday and spending the night in Meridian' date=' Mississippi. Saturday, we will be getting into Joshua, Texas where George's daughter lives and spending a couple of days with her. [/color']

We will leave there and head to Ballinger, Texas on Monday afternoon. Tuesday at noon (September 30), we will be riding to Lowake Inn Steakhouse (ummm, steaks and onion rings). I grew up not far from there and the quality of food has always been the best! From Lowake, we will be riding to Albuquerque, New Mexico and spending the night. I am not sure which way George plans on getting to Albuquerque.

Leaving Albuquerque, we are headed to Needles, California so I can get California on my map! From there, we are headed to Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon and then by Friday, October 3, we will be in Tucson. George's brother turns 50 on Saturday so we will be spending Friday and Saturday with them! Early Sunday morning, we will be heading out towards Colorado. And from there, weather will be our decision maker, but we will be going to Kansas to see George's parents!:)

After reciting all of this, I am ready to leave now!!!!! :whistling: Just a small issue of having to be at work!:crying:

I have sent you a PM with my email address, thank you for your offer! If we don't get to see you this trip, we will be back in the future!:thumbsup2:

    Ride safe,

    Bobbie

Sorry but I don't think visiting Needles qualifies you to claim California on your map. I protest.
