We are building our 1986 1st gen trike our selfs with IRS, The rear end is out of a 91 Cougar (7.5 Ford 3.31 ratio) flipped over so it turns the right direction, we are using P235/50/15" tires & the Cougar wheels. I am hand fabricating the frame trellis system, and the reverser, and the IRS W/coil over shocks. We will be mounting a TriWing DX Cruiser body to finish everything off. I would be done by now if my busy season hadn't interrupted me (Vicco Marine Repair) one has to eat you know. lol. Eventually I hope to post all of the photos of the project.     .

  2. Several of the members here on the site have Yamaha Hannigan trike conversions but I don't remember who they are, I'm sure they will surface sooner or later you might ask for a raise of hands in the general forum. We personally will not deal with TriWing again, after purchase of our DX Cruiser body ( $2.500.00 w/freight ) I tried to ask them a couple of question about other parts availability and a question concerning gear ratios as our wreck had 3.73.1s and I questioned that as being to low, any way they basically told us they would not be interested any further conversations. ( We don't condone what you are doing and will give you no further help ). I didn't care for the crude engineering on the TriWing kit anyway so I decided to go my own way and build an IRS trike from scratch, selling the broken TriWing kit for more than I paid for the whole wrecked trike w/ a spare frame and front end. I'm hoping to get some photos posted soon for all to see. :) :) :) :) :) :).

  3. I think there is only three or four that make conversions for the 2nd gen, Hannigan is the first one that comes to mind then Motor Trike, Champion & Tri Wing. I didn't like any of the factory conversions so I decided to build my own conversion, I'm building the sub frame and frame connection system out of 1.5" X 1.0" steel 1/8" wall steel tubing, I'm building it with IRS the bases of which is a 1991 Cougar 7.5" IRS rear end, I have a reverse system incorporating a 35 hp outboard motor flywheel attached to the pinion yoke and spun by an outboard motor starter, all I have left to do is build and mount the suspension and build the axles oh and about 50 little things that I haven't come across yet, :). We liked the Tri Wing DX Cruiser Body so that will be finish mounted and painted to match the bike after the conversion itself is finished. I hope this helps you get started. :) :) :) :) :) :).

  4. There is a newly listed 1989 Venture Royale Motor Trike listed on Ebay. It looks like it is in good condition and could make someone very happy, if they are in the market for a trike. The Item # is 320259998833 just type that # into the search box and it will take you right to it. Good Luck.     .

  5. Gas tank was scoured out with small sheet metal screws suspended in carb cleaner, I installed new shut of valve filters and a new rock type in line fuel filter on fuel line, pilot jets were new, As soon as I can I'm going to pull everything of and start from scratch methodically checking each problem myself rather than having my son do some of it. Thanks Again. :) :) :) :) :) :).

  6. Yammer Dan! I sprayed ether around the base of the carbs early on and that is why we put new intake manifolds on, we haven't sprayed since, we will do it again. mraf! Yes the carbs were boiled out thoroughly twice, RPM will gain and hold a little higher than the throttle blips highest RPM until you can get the idle screw turned down, I rode it a couple of times when it was doing this and I could let the clutch out with it in gear an that would bring the RPMs down and they would stay down until you accelerated again. McCarl! I have tried going out past 3 turns on the idle mixture screws but it doesn't seem to make a difference, I don't remember the carb brand names but they are the ones that have the diaphragm operated slides, As I said before I have had the carbtune on the bike and it seemed to adjust out fine, although the adjustments were made with the engine hot after it had gone through this transition period. The bike only has 7.846 miles on it so I can't believe the carbs are wore out and they seem like new. The gas tank had some rust in it and the carbs were taken of to clean, the owner had a brain aneurysm and died. I bought the bike from the mother who knows the bikes history and was willing to bring me up to date on what took place to park the bike. Thanks all. I'll look again for a vacuum leak and retry the ether. If anyone thinks of anything else let me know. I'll post if I find anything. :) :) :) :) :) :)

  7. I have a 1983 XS650 that will start fine using the enricher however the enricher does not seem to increase RPM the way it should, anyway the only way to keep the engine running until the motor is hot is to increase the idle speed by turning in the idle stop screw about 1 to 1.5 turns, eventually when you blip the throttle the motor will start to free wind on its own, when this happens you can turn the idle stop screw back out the 1 to 1.5 turns and the engine will idle fine and the bike will operate fine until you go to restart it again when it has gotten cold. The carbs were not on the bike when I got it ( they were apart in a box ) The carbs have been rebuilt, the diaphragms are all good an the intake adapters are new, I have had my Carbtune on it and all checks out fine, the mixture screws are set at 13/4 out from seat + or - a little, the air boxes are sealed, I can't think of anything else except. HELP PLEASE :bang head: :bang head: :bang head: :bang head: :bang head: :bang head:.

  8. If its got wheels the wife and I watch it. We can have two duel DVRs recording at once (4 races) and be VHS taping a 5th race while watching a 6th race live, we have done that a couple of times. In order of preference? Nascar, Indycars, F1, Winged Sprints, Motocross, ATVs, Off Road, If its got wheels we'll watch it instead of regular TV. Danaca or Weldon for Indy, Casey Kane or Juan Pablo Montoya for the 600, Lewis Hamilton or Felipe Massa for Monaco.     .

  9. Here in Oregon they are going to go to 10% Ethanol state wide which is going to cause a lot of problems with anything that has a carburetor. Water separation in the fuel will be the biggest problem with any vehicle that is stored for any period of time, and motorized items such as two cycle outboard motors will be the hardest hit because mixed fuel (oil & gas) will not flow past water at all, next hardest hit will be the stored vehicles then the older ones. Our trade Mags, that we get are saying the worst is yet to come.:bang head: :bang head: :bang head: :bang head: :bang head: :bang head:      .

  10. Chocking I had a lot of trouble getting our 1st gen up on the stand to, so I made a short roller stand which did the trick. Since we are converting our 1st gen into a trike the short roller stand is up for grabs (sale) its custom built so I don't no what it is worth. If you are interested let me know. :) :) :) :) :) :).

  11. The starter button doesn't carry the electrical load to the starter, all it does is energize the starter solenoid which then transfers the juice to the appropriate starter, using a toggle switch just moves the initial signal from the original engine electric starter solenoid to the reverser starter solenoid which automatically makes the one not in use inoperable. I don't think I would want to put a ring gear on the disc brake rotor as it would create more unsprung weight on one side of the vehicle, you would also have to weld mounts directly to the diff axle tube which could make it warp and some how balance every thing as a unit, also the ring gear would have to be small enough to clear the inside of the wheel. Obviously you would have to weld or build mounts off the third member if you mount the ring gear on the pinion yoke, but there are a lot of thick places to even drill and tap holes besides using the rear cover bolts for mounting. :) :) :) :) :) :).

  12. As some of you know we are turning our 89 VR into a trike. In my research I found out some trike company's offer a reverse by installing a starter ring gear to a disk attached to the pinion yoke of the 7.5" ford Diff or to the opposite side of the axle where a belt or chain drive is used. I removed a 38 tooth flywheel ring gear from a 35-40 hp OMC outboard motor flywheel, they use 8 -1/4" bolts to hold the ring gear on. I then machined a disk out of 1/4" plate steel that would fit tightly over the index lip of a modified 7.5" pinion yoke. 8 holes are drilled through the plate to match corresponding holes in the yoke. I then turned the outside circle down with a index lip to fit the ring gear and drilled 8 -1/4" holes in the outside perimeter to fit the ring gear. We are building our trike with independent rear suspension so the frame work holding the Diff will be made to hold the starter assy. We are planing on using a toggle switch that can be switched between the engine starter/solenoid and the reverse starter/solenoid and use the regular start button on the right handle bar for both functions. This is the only way I now of to get a reverse on a Yamaha. I hope this will help answer some questions and give someone a start on there own reverser. :) :) :) :) :) :).

  13. Skipop. I almost bought a Hannigan trike body for our trike build, but we didn't care for the body style as much as the Tri Wing DX Cruiser, We are very disappointed in the quality of there work. I new going in that it had to be fitted, but the glass lay-up is very thin in some places and a half inch thick in other place's, it is out of square almost a half inch and the wheel openings are not in the same place on both sides, the body also has a twist in it that has to be worked with. Oh yeah I forgot Tri Wing says deal with it your the one that wanted to build your own trike from scratch!!!

    Anyway enjoy your trike. :) :) :) :) :) :).

  14. We used to have family arguments over which tree at which lot and when we would finally decide which one and go back to get The One! it would be gone. Then a pretty little FAKE tree came home to live with us and all is well. :) :) :) :) :) :)
