  1. I just sold an '05. I didn't like the look of the instruments at first, but after I got used to it, I really liked it. Some of these bikes have a noisy whine, and others are not so bad. I tried a couple until I found one that didn't have it.

They're pretty tough bikes, I never had any problems with mine, but my wife and I were looking for a bike with more luggage space and a fairing.

  2. I went from a RSTD to an '08 Ultra. I rode an Ultra last year and really liked it. I had heard so much on this forum about Harleys vibrating that I was blown away by how smooth they were. They vibrate at idle, but even my wife commented that the Harley is smoother riding.

Things that I like about the Harley are the better braking, better low speed handling, sound system with rear speakers and dual controls, V-twin sound, quick release saddle bags.

The RSTD has better take off, but they're about the same on the hwy. The RSTD is easier to change oil on.

One thing I don't like about the Harley is the attitude some Harley riders have, and every time you stop for a Coke somebody wants to talk to you about the Harley they had 20 years ago, and sometimes I just want to go.

  3. I recently bought an '08 Ultra. To me the ride is perfect. My wife even said the ride on this bike is much smoother than the RSTD. It does vibrate but only at idle. The low speed handling of my Ultra and the better braking are 2 of the reasons I bought it. I found out after I bought it that they improved the frame in '09.

Since hanging out some on the HD forum I found that for a few years Harley had a piece of crap timing chain system that had to be replaced at around 30K or it would come apart.

They make upgrade$ for it. The dollar sign S was intentional.

I was fortunate that I bought a model that they had fixed it on. I think an '05 twin cam might fall into that category. I would definitely check it out with someone smarter than me before you buy. The exhaust gets hot on a Harley, but it did on the Royal Star too.

With than said, I think if you ride it that you will love it. One of the great things about owning a Harley is going to the Harley forums and talking about how great you Yamaha was. The Kool-aide drinkers will almost blow a gasket if you even mention that any other bike is fun to ride. Their standard response if you ask what is so great about a Harley is "If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand."

  4. I've had my RSTD on CL for a few months now. It's at a reasonable price, and people will call and say it's exactly what their looking for, then I never hear back from them.

I've sold lots of stuff on Craigslist, but not having much luck with this bike. It's a really nice bike too.

  5. so look in your mirrors, do a shoulder check and get ready to rumble.

Yeah, I took the safety training too. When I'm riding, I always look in my mirrors at red lights until I have a couple of cars cushion behind me. I saw the Jeep coming this evening, but it was just in my peripheral vision. I was surprised by it.

  6. I ride the bike to work most days, but luckily it has been cold here for the past month. Today I was headed West sitting 1/10 of a mile from my house, making a left turn onto my road. I had to wait for a few cars going East, so I could make the turn. A Saturn pulls up behind me and as he's stopping, a Jeep slams into his rear, knocking him into my rear. I was pushed forward a car length or more, and it knocked everything off of my sun visor and all of the pennies out of my ashtray.

This was in a Ford F150. I called my wife to tell her I'd be a little late getting home, and when I told her what happened, she said "it's a good thing you weren't riding!". As soon as she said it I thought my knees would buckle. I hadn't thought about it before then.

    Be careful out there!

  7. Don't let her run over you. I don't know you, but I went through a divorce and I know how you can be taken advantage of when you're hurting and just want to get it over with.

Mine was 20 years ago, and like the others said, I have moved on and remarried.

I wish the best for you.

  8. But it's Max speed is 55mph according to their web site. That eliminates it for bike trips. I'm sure there is a 'Fudge Factor' but I wouldn't chance it.

You get what you pay for.

I bought a Harbor Freight trailer about 10 years ago for hauling mulch and such. It also said not to exceed 55 mph blah blah blah.

I've had this thing way overloaded several times. I've had it on the interstate many times way over 55 mph. I've never repacked the bearings (I paid $200 for the thing, I'm going to use it until it breaks).

I haul a huge load of mulch with it a couple of times a year and then pull it around the house with the tractor. I've fixed I don't know how many flats on it, but that's all.

It's one of the best purchases I've ever made. I'll bet I could get my $200 back out of it today.

"You get what you pay for" applies in some instances, but I've been burned many times.

See my post on Gerbing heated gloves. I paid more for them than I did for this trailer, and they were defective from day 1.
