  1. There's 2 bolts on each side, but I can't seem to figure out how to remove them. They have a metal thing around the head that prevents me from being able to attach anything to remove them. And I don't see how I can remove the metal thing. Please help!!!
  2. I unscrewed this little fella and I'm just wondering if the contraption underneath is the fuel filter. I'm also trying to find where the fuel sending unit is? I took off the seat and I have the gas tank exposed. All of this is so I can clean the tank and/or remove the tank itself. Also where can I find this information in the manual? I thought I looked just about everywhere such as the chassis and engine sections looking for either the fuel filter or the sending unit and I didn't see any mention of it.
  3. Is my tank shot? To my untrained eye it seems to be pretty rusted. I haven't drained the tank yet, but it was barely has any gas in it. Is this fixable and would I have to take the tank off? I might just buy another tank if I'm going to be taking it off, but I would prefer to save some $$$ and clean it if possible.
  4. Thank you very much I will try to do what you suggested. I will try to find where the fuel line is and maybe post a picture to make sure I got the right one. And You're saying I can put some seafoam in there when I put in some gasoline? I will try that.
  5. I think it's best if I leave the tank on, from what I understand I will basically need to remove a part of the frame or something like that. SO... I tried unscrewing those petcock screws, even with an impact driver they're not coming loose. I might have to drill a hole and pull the screws out like I've had to do with a couple other screws. But it sounds like once they're loose the gas will flow through? I will have to try to get those screws out of there. Any recommendations on what I should put in the tank to help clean it? Once it's empty I plan on putting fresh gas in it and maybe something to clean the tank and fuel lines but I'm not too sure what that something would be.
  6. You fill up the tank with water to clean it? To clarify, I'm asking how I would empty the tank once it is filled with gas or cleaning solution
  7. Tank has a bit of old gas, so I would like to clean it out a bit. Best method for cleaning the tank and draining it? I tried to remove the petcock but the screws holding it in place are in there pretty tight. I would like to clean out the tank and maybe put some of that protective stuff that you can put in there to help the tank.
  8. I tried spraying down into the lock and pretty much everywhere else outside. The locking mechanism was stuck from a bunch of build up, but I cleaned it up and it's actually working now. I'll try that thanks!
  9. After having the gas cap stuck since I first got the bike, I was able to get the cap off! With the help of a pipe wrench, pry bars, and plenty of cuss words we were able to rip the cap off. Sadly, one of my keys (the uglier one) was bent in the process, but his sacrifice will be remembered forever in this thread. Now I can buy a battery and put gas in the tank so I can try to fire her up. Actually my key is only turning to ACC, and not all the way to ON so I'll have to figure that out once I get the battery on there. I'll be looking for a new gas cap and a replacement key, and thank you to plenty of people who have been major help throughout the process, I could not have done it without you!
  10. I've been wanting to say thank you. I did what you said and it worked. Hopefully I was able to get most of the debris out of there. Thanks again sir!
  11. How do I get the carb into an open position? I removed the spark plug and I'm able to turn the engine by hand
  12. Something tells me that they are.... Maybe I should just return them right away. Any way to tell if they're good quality before I install them? Probably difficult to figure out
  13. I had to buy them through two different sellers, and it looks like I bought both of the last ones. Hopefully the quality is good they won't be here for a week But this one seems to be a legit seller.
  14. Thank you, I already purchased two gaskets for $22 a piece on ebay, I had heard about the second gen being a better fit, but I wasn't sure what second gen was, are those newer than '93? I'll try out what you said with the book, it was a pain just trying to get it in place with the gaskets coming off, especially since there was a hose blocking the way of the front one.
  15. Thank you! They're not sticking to the cover, will the new ones stick or should I use some RTV or other type of adhesive? Someone else in an older thread also recommended to change the breather hose when everything is off like I have it, is that something y'all recommend?
  16. Removed the cylinder head covers, the gaskets on both looked like this photo, a bit cracked. Should I replace them?
  17. Thank you everyone, and I might have to check that out it looks like something I could use a lot
  18. The manual doesn't make it clear, and I tried using a wrench to take it off, but it wouldn't budge. It also looks like I could use a screw to undo it? I also have the oil filter housing pictured, the big silver thing at the top of the picture. Just wondering if that's how I drain the oil, I sprayed it with some penetrating lubricant hopefully it will come off.
  19. I haven't been able to work on the bike for a while, but it's in the shade now ready to be worked on. I vacuumed what I could from the carbs, then I took off the air filter housing and cleaned it. Here's a picture of what's underneath, any recommendations? It's pretty dusty in there. For now I'm waiting for the housing to dry and then I'll put it back on
  20. Thank you everyone for replying, I'm heading to the store now to buy a clamp, hopefully this will get the job done. I'll see about upgrading from a trial member. @Squidley I appreciate the offer, I'm sure I will definitely need your advice sooner or later!
  21. Where do you apply the brake fluid? Just as a lubricant to get the pistons to move easier? I saw in the manual it says something along the lines of applying air to the brake bleed valve, and the pistons will pop out, does anyone have experience with this? I'll try cleaning and using a c clamp first.
  22. Thank you now I remember undoing that cable. Any ideas on how to compress the pistons on the brake caliper? I can't seem to find a way to get them down
  23. Replaced the front tire, manual said to make sure the torque converter was positive the right way. It's hard to tell in the picture, but is this the correct way this little valve thing should be?
