Mine was a little cheaper only because it didn't include the air filter. Shop around and u may find a better deal. You will need to buy different clamps that are more heavy duty. I got my clamps at a NAPA store. Here are a couple pics. I have to say it was the best investment I've made on my bike. Love the electric choke and fuel shut-off! Any questions, feel free to ask.
  3. Got it through ebay. Manifold and carb together. Fairly easy setup. Picked up some heavy duty clamps. The originals won't work. Also got a small chrome air breather with an outlet for the crankcase breather hose. Connect the choke and fuel shut-off to the accessories screw. I connected the ground to one off the float bowl screws. The carb has 3 vacuum outlets. Connect one of the bottom ones to the the vacuum advance. Then I just looped the other bottom one the the one on top. Notice that I set the accelerator pump screw up 2 notches from the bottom. Once it was all hooked up, I watched a Volkswagen beetle YouTube video on how to set the carb screws. Only need the pull throttle cable. Hopefully the pic will show how I connected the cable. I zip-tied the choke and return cable up out of the way. Such a joy to go out, give the throttle a twist and here the choke engage 20230611_192400.mp4
  4. I have an '83 that I purchased a couple years ago. It wasn't in the best of shape but I always wanted one of the first yamaha dressers. after nearly 3 years, I'm finally getting it to run well. Carbs were a mess when I got it: leaked, not synced, clogged. Worked and worked but could never get them right. $600 for a professional cleaning and the guy said they would still need to be fiddled with a lot. I finally said screw it and ordered a carb modification kit from Germany. Now using a single pict 34 carb from a Volkswagen. Wow! What a difference! Runs like a dream, with the added benefit of electric choke and fuel shut- off. Just took it on a 700 mile weekend run and averaged 45.9 mpg! I know there are some naysayers and purists that will disagree with doing it, but I've never been happier with this bike!

  6. I have an '83 and I could never get the carbs right. Best I could do was run it with the choke on. $600 to rebuild and my guy said that I'd still be adjusting them all the time because of their age. Took the plunge and purchased a single carb modification kit. Wow! Runs great! Now has electric choke and fuel shut-off. And it now is getting over 40 mpg!
  7. I read a few posts on here about switching out the 4 carb system with a single carb. I did this on my '83. Absolutely amazing! Now has electric choke and fuel shut-off. Just took a 700 mile road trip. Averaged 45.9 mpg!

  10. Thanks! Im looking at the float needles. Most ive seen have a rubber tip. The ones i have are just solid metal. Would these be the originals?
  11. Got one of the float bowls off. Going to order a rebuild kit. All i seem to find are ones for xvz1300. Are these the same carbs on my xvz1200?

  13. just purchased 1983 xvz1200. Noticing wet carb bodies, strong smell of gas, and horrible gas mileage. Fuel line into carbs is secure. Getting ready to pull carbs. What should i be looking for?

  16. Replaced the bulb with 1157 and its now working fine. Thanks!
  17. Looked online and found that it takes a 1157 bulb. The ones that blew were 1154. Wonder if thats the problem. Not thick enough filiments?
  18. Saddlebum, i replaced the bulb. Did the same thing. Rear bulb is fine and is a single filament and comes on steady when engaged with the front blown. Right front is a double filament and that side works fine. Did notice that the right front bulb has beefier filaments. Also checked the blown bulb and nothing was touching.
  19. just got a 1983 xvz1200. Front left turn signal bulb was blown. Replaced it and it worked for about 15 seconds then came on steady all the time. Stays on even if turn signal is disengaged. Checked bulb and one of the filaments is burnt.noticed that it flashed quicker than the right turn signal.
