  1. That's kind of what I figured, but havent gone to the trouble of disassembling. Maybe a job for next winter. Thanks very much!!
  2. Has anybody ever had the speedometer work fine but the odometer is way off? How much is hard to tell, both tripmeter and odometer seem to read similar but it's probably showing 1km after 50 km driven.
  3. Confused by that information. The owner's manual and VIN suggest it's a 1983 TDK. And it's not the color you suggest. What does this suggest? It's not painted and the plastics are not in the best of shape, so no chips in the paint to show anything different than the maroon color that it seems to be. I'm new to this bike, so I have alot to learn!! Still unclear as to what the variations are for the suffix D, TDK, etc. Thanks again
  4. Well it worked out in any case. They accepted the shortened VIN before the days end. I think your mistaken about the colour choices though. I've seen other 83's posted online in maroon as well. Will PM u to request the database. Would love to see where all of these are scattered! Greatly appreciate your help. Without knowing about such an oddity you begin to wonder if the 17 digit VIN was removed for some reason!
  5. Really, that's unusual for sure. The serial number is 31N000556. Color is maroon. Appreciate your assistance with this.
  6. New to this forum, have recently purchased a 1983 Venture Royale. It's my 7th or 8th motorcycle, been riding since I'm 16 and I'm hooked on older machines, not fond of the new bike styles at all. Ran into a minor issue while trying to get this bike insured. It seems that the VIN number is missing or certainly not easily determined. The label on the frame beneath the brake pedal is no longer in place. I do see the serial number on the right side of the steering neck, but there is no label or stamping on the left hand side of the steering neck to show the VIN. I didn't remove the fairing, but I did use an inspection camera to get a closer look. I've also ran my fingers across the area to see if I could feel any evidence of the stamping. There is no VIN number on the left side of the steering neck, no sign whatsoever. My registration, transferred from the previous owner, lists the serial number but no VIN. Can the serial number be used to somehow identify what the VIN was or should be? I can also provide the serial number from the engine if that serves any purpose. Alternatively, I could try a different insurance provider, but would rather not switch if possible. Any suggestions?
