  1. If I may make a suggestion, I would just go ahead and order the longer cables. If I remember they were about $35 bucks a piece. I put on the 1.5 risers on my 06 just after I got it in Dec of 05 and last summer in the Hill Country the top cable snapped. I guess the extra tension over time was the culprit. In retrospect I wish I would have put those on from the beginning.

  2. I'm not a huge hockey fan, however the first game played by the US and Canada was a great game to watch. What talent on both sides. This game today should be an awesome game. I'm pulling for the US, my wife is from Edmonton so no doubt who she's rooting for.

  3. Just did mine a couple weeks ago with V7Goose's help. It was easy as folks say it is. Call PCW racing and order the clutch spring upgrade kit which consists of a gasket, spring and 1 friction plate to replace the weenie plate installed by Yamaha. It is the last plate and is a 1/2 plate hence the name weenie. They will try and sell you the rest of the plates as well but pass on that, just order the kit. Mine works like a champ now.

  4. Congradulations, I bet a small percentage of us can say that. I am hoping to join you soon. 74,000 on my "06" bought it new in Dec of "05". And it helps I live far enough south that it does not go into hibernation in the winter.

  5. I was going to start a new post but I will tag along with this one. Have an "06" bought back in Dec of "05". About the first thing I did was install the 1 1/2 risers I got from Barons. It was kind of tight (Cables) but installed and left the stock cables in. Well last month the pull cable broke on me down in Kerrville. Word to the wise, if anyone out there has installed the 1 1/2 risers and have not bought the 2" longer cables I would get it done before you wind up like I did. It took about 68,000 miles of that added stress to snap my pull cable. And snap it did.

Myswell share the pretty amazing story now. Were down in Kerrville for Star BQ. Riding on 337 between Leaky and Vanderpool Saturday afternoon around 1 PM. I'm leading a group of 6 bikes and just like that "No throttle" I get on the CB and say "Guys I think my throttle cable just broke, Ahhhh guys, no I know my throttle cable just broke". Pretty sinking feeling for sure, especially when your leading a group of 11 bikes and 14 people to Big Bend the following morning. Thankfully we have a trailer back at the YO. While waiting for the trailer and making lots of calls on a friends cell phone. One of 4 that actually had a signal, trying to get a throttle cable in my hands. I'm leaving in the morning for Big Bend. What we finally did was the amazing part. Our sponsor for our Chapter "Cental Yamaha back in Plano, TX about 350 miles away tried in vain to find one in stock somewhere, nothing for 500 miles. They call this guy "Norm" who was going to bring his Venture in for service on Monday and ask him to bring it in early, like now. They tell him my story and ask if they can take off his cable and order him a new one. He says sure, I pay the labor for the removal and a new cable is ordered. I have a buddy head up there and wait for the cable, grab it and meet me 1/2 way. He heads South and I head North and we meet in Comanchee about 9:30 PM and I"m back in Kerrville at 11:30 PM with cable in hand. While I was gone a friend "Toolman" had my bike taken apart on the Patio of his hotel room to the point of just waiting for the cable. I did have to wake him up when I got there. By 1 AM it was a done deal. With military precision and a flashlight we pulled it off. We left for Big Bend on time Sunday morning and had a great time.

Amazing how so many people pulled together for a fellow biker.

  6. Goose,

Not sure how long this post has been here but it came in very handy tonight. Got my new Clearview Sheild today and during the install I looked at the tabs inside the faring and just as you say they were broken. I bought a couple hose clamps at Auto Zone and straightened them out and used them. Worked great. Thanks for posting this, much more solid in there now.

  7. Well I had an awe SH *&* in the garage this morning. Had my bike in the chock I bought from Harbor Frieght, been using it for over and year now no problem. Until this morning when a crash woke me up. Over she went. The Clearview sheild is toast and the grip on the clutch side as well. Could have been worse I guess. Not sure why she went over. Anyway, does anyone have a stock sheild they could let me borrow? I will pay for shipping. I ordered a replacement from Clearview this morning and it's going to be 2 to 4 weeks before I get it. Had a 3 day weekend ride schedule this comming weekend. Guess that is in jepardy unless I can get a sheild by Thursday. If anyone has a stock sheild lying around I could use for a few weeks I would really appreciate it.

  8. Goose thanks for the thread. I don't feel like a knuckle head anymore. Running my 3rd venom rear I looked at the thread and made the comment to some buddies that I had a couple thousand miles left. The 2 previous were about 14 thousand before I replaced them and with my current rear at 11,000 I thought it was a safe assumption. The next thing I know I'm seeing the cords. I thought what the heck is going on here. We were supposed to go on a ride last Sunday and I could not go, I told my buddies about the cords showing, they busted my chops because I was just telling them the week before about the additional 2 thousand miles I had. Do you know where the thread indicators are? I just had a new one put on Wednesday and I want to keep an eye on the wear indicators. I also wonder why I did not get the 14,000 out of this one. How much air pressure do you run in your front and rear?

  9. While in Madill Oklahoma @ a gas stop on our way up to OKC a gentleman came up to me and was telling me about Yamaha having adjustable upper wind deflectors. They replace the clear plastic fixed deflectors attached to the bottom of the fairing on both sides. He said there in the new accessory catalog. I got on line and looked and did not see anything. Has anyone heard of these???
