  1. Richard,

I sure hope things go well for you and your wife in the moving process. Sometimes we yearn to have everything done right now because the work will be all behind us.

I just ask for you not to feel overwhelmed in this change in your life. Take your time and reflect on the good times you have enjoyed. Look forward to the future that you have mentioned to get something more manageable and keep moving forward.

Feel good about the future Richard.

Here is hoping for all good things.:bighug:

  2. 2nd Generation Venture. Mine is an 04 with 85,000 miles on it. "BOLTS WERE LOOSE"

You have to take off side covers from both sides & passenger foot rests. Take off Plastic Cover to see these bolts that the ink pin is pointing to. My right side was out all the way. Only the plastic cover kept it from falling off onto the road. The left side was very loose. I could turn it with my fingers. I removed both bolts and put removable LocTite and torqued to 80 ft lbs. That just felt like a good feel. I could not find the torque specs on this bolt. How many bolts are loose out there running on the roads?

  3. Tonight I was going to adjust the rear shock so I was taking off the panels on the right side to get to the top nut on the shock.

You have to take the right side passenger foot pad off and take the plastic cover off. Pic #2

Pic #3 with the 14 mm bolt shown with the ink pen pointing to it was out all the way. The only thing holding it from falling off on the hwy. was the plastic cover.

I put Loctite on it and tightened to 80 ft. lbs. That seemed like a good feel. Thought to myself. Better check the other side. Sure enough that bolt was very loose but not out all the way out.

Just thought ya might want to check yours sometime. They are good size bolts. So, that's what I did. Adjust the shock and tighten two bolts that I didn't know was loose.:thumbsup2:attachment.php?attachmentid=109083&d=1493342038attachment.php?attachmentid=109084&d=1493342058attachment.php?attachmentid=109085&d=1493342104

  4. I'm looking to upgrade to a larger camper that has a queen or king bed suitable for two people. If anyone has a line on one for sale within a reasonable distance of Michigan please let me know. I am going to look at a Bunkhouse this week but am open to Aspen's or other makes.

Once I find a new to me camper, mine will be put up for sale, it's a twin bed size that's more suitable for 1 person camping and is in very good condition. You may have seen it either at the WNY rally or Freebirds MD weekend.

I don't know if you have ever seen this sight before. If not, pretty interesting for any trailer info you may be seeking. http://forums.delphiforums.com/n/nav/start.asp?webtag=MCTrailertowing

It is fun to look around at all the options.

    Have fun looking ragtop.:thumbsup2:

  6. Been having a squeaking noise from lower shock area and asked a few people what theirs sounded like and what was changed. I mostly heard that the rear shock was the problem and dealer changed under warranty (those that still had warranty) . Well my dealer first couldn't hear anything then I finally took bike in for 65,000 klm check and asked them to check again they said it was the 6 bearings in the swing-arm(cost of $300 +2 hours labor) with wear and tear(not a warranty item which I understand with wear)and NOT shock. I mentioned that several others had same noise and shock was problem but stuck with his diagnosis. Now I am not trying to get nothing for free if not the problem but have lost out on warranty things before . So am thinking about getting a second opinion from another shop before I get the bearings changed. I don't think the shop I go to for ALL my regular servicing would say anything different but if there are more of these around than they say you never know. They treat me pretty good by giving me one of their bikes to go for breakfast or whatever sometimes giving me company truck if it was raining. What are your views????

This is what usually makes the squeaking sound. I do this everytime I replace the rear tire. It is not that hard to do.

If you have never done it. It needs it.

  7. Remembering when I was a kid - got my first BB Gun.. My dad teaching me gun safety and all that.. Did just fine till one day, probably after watching Little Joe Cartwright or Lucas Macain as The Rifle Man shoot a hard kicking rifle, I got to wondering if my little BB gun had any "kick" to it.. Went outside, cocked the lever on that little "Red Rider" - put the stock butt against my lip and pulled the trigger.. WOWZY - even the non-hurting end of a BB gun can hurt cha!! Even got a fat lip out of that one.. My Dad had a hard time keeping from laughing about it - looked at me and said "never thought about teaching ya not to do that" LOL..

Bottom line - I dont necessarily agree with the writers summation that BB guns are inherintly dangerous - at a minimum, they do serve the very practical service to mankind by insuring most of us gun toting Americans will probably not get our teeth knocked out by placing a loaded shotgun or rifle stock against our mouths and pulling the trigger to see how bad they kick..

    The End

    PS = good one Unc!!

Good grief Puc. Got a good laugh out of the kick-en BB gun story. A Dad cannot think of everything.:smile5:

  9. Out here on the farm if I see skunks I take care of them. Alot of the time they are sick. The exception is in the spring. Snow melt usually forces them out of their homes in culverts and such.

If I have a live trap out, I attach a wire to the trap and make a couple of revolutions around the trap, with the other end of the wire a safe distance away. If you catch a skunk you can stand a safe distance away, pull on the wire, and it will roll the trap upside down allowing the door to open and letting the skunk walk out. Once it is out and away from the trap I can dispatch it. The trap doesn't stink and I don't shoot a hole in it. I immediately bury the skunk. Of course I live on a farm and rabies is a concern with other animals.

    Yup BJ,

If I lived on a farm:farmer: I would relocate underground also. Here in the Village of Lake Orion, they kind of frown on using a gun and my yard just ain't big enough to bury all them critters. I once took a BIG coon out in the country near a big, big corn field. When I opened the trap that BIG coon came right after me. That sucker was mad. I kept kicking the trap to keep him away from me and finally hit him with it before he took off. Did not have time to pull my pistol out cause he was coming after me. Lesson learned. Next time pistol will be out and ready.:yikes:

  10. Hey T.J. - you have trapped Skunks for relocation? How you do that with out getting stunk on?

    Well Puc,

In one summer alone I trapped 21 skunks. It was so bad around here. I called the village and told them how many I had trapped and said maybe it was time to get an exterminator in the village. The kind and very funny lady said. "I think we already have one" Boy, I had that one coming.

Any how. A skunk can't spray unless they get there tails above there back. So in a trap they are not able to do that without a lot of trouble. I put a rug over the trap to calm them down and then pick the trap up and put it in the back of my truck. Out to the country I go till I run into state land. I take the trap and open the door with the rug still over the top and point it in the direction I want the skunk to go. Sometimes I have to shake the cage to get them to come out. They always go straight ahead and never have I had one look back at me. Tails are down dragging on the ground and away they go.

Every skunk has a different marking or pattern to the black and white. Some are very beautiful in the way they are marked. When you see as many has I have through the years up close and personal. You take notice of such things.

Tuna fish or peanut butter are the best bait for me to catch just about anything.

  11. So we had a Raccoon living under the shed for a good little while, really was not a problem until about 6 weeks ago he decided to dig up the wife's flower beds each night searching for grubs and worms. I tried all the typical remedies to deter him from the flower bed, black pepper, red chili pepper, ground red pepper, off the shelf deterrents from Home Depot. Tried to make him move his den elsewhere by pouring ammonia down into his den, vinegar in his den, salting the entrance to his den with the red pepper mixture and his own scat. Nothing worked until last Saturday night when I set a trap baited with dry cat food, honey and peanut butter.

Sunday morning , viola, Raccoon in the trap, easy peasy. Relocated him 3 miles to the west in an area that looked perfect for Raccoons and lots of better homes between there and my house for him to take up residence, but no, this morning a week later, I have freshly dug holes and Raccoon tracks on the sidewalk again. I am making an assumption it is the same one, but who knows.

I do not want to hurt the varmint just want him to live and forage some where else, if it is the same one, how far away do I need to take him to keep him from finding his way back?

    Anybody have experience with Raccoons?

I live in a village and trap many Skunks, Coon, and Ground Hogs in my back yard and my neighbors when asked to. A Coon has to be taken a minimum of 5 miles away or they will return. I take and release on state land near me. State law in Michigan says I am not to do that but to drown the animals because it is to stressful on them to relocate them. Go figure.

  12. Ya Calling me a old Man?? Jist cause I've already had my 21st Birthday?? :backinmyday: I remember it well!!:Avatars_Gee_George: Yeah it gits crowded round hear at times:mugshot:

Man o man Dan. I just checked your birthdate and low and behold we are the same. 1949 was a good year. Mine is in March so that makes me just a tad older.:smile5:

  13. That's too bad,,, I have a 11'x15' 2 room canvas tent I haven't been sure what to do with :confused24: It's big enough to sleep in one side and park the bike in the other.

That's a wee bit BIGGER than what I was looking for. I have a 10 x 20 three room tent that I have had for a long, long time. Did a lot of camping when the kids were little.

I was looking for something small to carry on the bike. The one I picked up is a 5 x 7. Should be the right size for two.20170212_074331.jpg20170212_074927_7.jpg

  14. Fun stuff Grandpuc,

I really enjoy mine for sure. I have nine from 11 years to 2 months old. 6 boys 3 girls.

Back to the subject of tents. I have been watching Craigslist for the last week. I picked one up today that I like. It is a Eureka Texragon. The lady used it one time. So now I will be a happy camper. Got it pretty cheap.

    Spring is coming.:thumbsup2:
