  1. The wife and I are somewhat proficient with martial arts like Krav Maga, Kung Fu, etc. Speciffic named routines are not as important as effectiveness. Unless shot in our sleep or from a distance, we should be ok if allowed to become the offensive ones. No guns, but we do have both hard and sharp objects at our disposal.

  2. The last place we went and had a less than satisfactory meal was the Roadhouse. My carrots were so hard they were raw. I asked for the manager, and believe it or not she said it was cooked to their specifications and policy guidelines. It wasn’t the waitress’s fault so we tipped her our normal 20%. The wife’s meal was outstanding, and all drinks were cold. Bottom line is we will not be back to Roadhouse unless we’re invited with another couple to join them. Not because of the food, but because of management’s attitude.

  3. 25 miles n.e. of tampa in the moutians of fla. lots of good riding, but not many venture riders except thumper and he don't have his venture anymore.

We'll be heading to Plant City the 17th for the big BBQ cookout, I think that's near you.

  4. All true...

    I graduated in 67...

This path we're on now is not a good picture for future generations, but how do we the people change the road our leaders are taking us down?

Voicing opinions of the majority and majority voting hasn't worked for years. It appears to be too corrupt at the top to make any difference way down here.

  5. Glad the fix was quick and painless at the dealership.

Hope you and the wife enjoy many miles and smiles on your Quiet Cricket.

Because of all the speculation, we're now taking a couple steps back and a closer look at Yamaha's big 1900 twin. If indeed that's going to be thier future flagship, we're going to make sure their air cooling works before we walk away from the V-4. Doing our homework and research now with an expanded line-up.

This forum is probably the best on the planet, not because of any particular bike; But because of the people here. Great people...

  6. Oh gee.......I just got a call from a dealer......I will not tell you who just yet, but he is sweating bullets!! So nice.....wild onions will melt in his mouth!! Hey you know when you buy a bike and Yamaha sends you the survey form to fill out? I really pounded this dealer bad!! I told Yamaha about me calling them to complain about my clutch basket, and the fact that they would not return my calls, and that I had also sent an email....I also have been having trouble getting my license tag. I called again this morning, and got no call back......so I went to the survey website again and added that little comment. I have just been called.......apologized to.......and they want to know how and how much can they help me with Crickett!! I told them to hold off a bit.....that I have contacted Yamaha direct, that I want a district manager involved from Yamaha in this thing. So they are going to start making calls.......learning also......and will call me back middle of next week.

So fellows.....the main company......Yamaha does pay attention.....they have this dealer jumping through hoops......

Yes I will forgive him..........smile and get along.......just grateful to finally be making some progress. Might even buy them all a steak dinner if they get my bike fixed. :sign20: Kit

Oh my tag will be here in time....going to be priority mail........

Sounds like dealer acknowledgements are in motion. Keep the positive momentum going; And keep us all updated on your maintenance progress.

  7. Everyone here knows we're interested in a new Yamaha V-4 product; Either the Venture or maybe a RSTD. The dealership's service dept. is top priority before we buy. That said, our nearest Yamaha dealer is Lake Placid, FL. We've heard from so many others who've delt personally with them (Lake Placid) "don't buy there," that we're looking at two dealers much further away.

We have no experience with this dealer other than it's sales staff; My wife doesn't have a good feeling there. Women's intuition or...

Bottom line: unless we hear otherwise via positive personal after sale experiences our $$$ will not go to our nearest Yamaha dealer.

  8. Hi All: Sometimes it takes meeting some good people to make a final decision on what to do about a given situation. I have been out to a Meet and Eat in my Backyard and met some really great people...

    Mr. KitCarson,

Did anyone else at this meet and eat drive your Cricket and verify that your screech, chirp, squeel is indeed among the worst they've ever heard?

I'm glad to hear you've decided to stick it out and resolve your bike's problem via Yamaha.

I'm not yet a Venture or RSTD owner so I can't claim to have true empathy, but be assured you have my utmost respect.

And because of all the great people here, the Venture is still tops on our list if we decide to go full boat, and the Tour Deluxe is a close second if we decide we don't need all the bells and whistles.

The wife and I are monitoring this forum now as if we can't live without it. Maybe we can't...

  9. try Melbourne , i heard they have a black and a red and silver , i was told 14,000 out the door , give the dealer a call 1st because i have not checked only heard about it

I'm not familiar with that area, but I did find a dealer listed in Palm Bay. Is it possible this Palm Bay dealer is the one for the Melbourne area you are suggesting.

    Thanks,

    Dan

  10. Just an observation: When I decided I wanted a Venture, it was a little hard to find......no local shop had one...

That is a fact. Took another ride today to Okeechobee; That's the dealer that a couple weeks ago offered a great OTD price, but didn't have one on the floor. Said come back in a couple weeks. I'm back and still no new Venture or RSTD on the floor. Know what the salesman said? "Just sold it a half hour ago." If I believed that one, then I should have also believed his bridge for sale story, but didn't stay long enough to hear any more crap.

I heard they have one in Lake Wales to check out. Maybe next weekend.

  11. Jeep owners had similar mindsets about waving to each other.

CJ-5 vs CJ7, vs newer, vs older, vs real, vs memorex, vs

    All in good fun.

BTW my last was an '86 CJ-7, last of it's kind.

I'd stop if I saw another Jeep on the side of the road...

Am I showing my age yet? Those were some of, "the good old days."

  12. Our last big Harley was a 1998 FLTRI. We loved it, not a bit of trouble, comfortable for both of us, and we would do it again. Trouble is they no longer make the bike we loved. It's been supposidly enlarged and improved twice. Both enlargements and improvements have had their share of troubles. The previous improved had baring problems and the newest latest greatest have severe overheating problems. HD expects the owners to acknowledge these faults and correct them themselves with remaping, pipes, etc. Not going to happen from these buyers of new. So for 2008 and maybe 2009 HD is out of our buying considerations. In our opinions sometimes change is not good; Sometimes bigger is not better. Speaking for the wife and I.

  13. I'm an old 10 year Navy vet myself, but no water induced exciting memories for me because my tours were on CV-64 and CVN-68; Floating cities. All my excitement was on the flight deck with my babies: The F-14 Tomcat.

Sold our 20 foot pontoon last year when we moved off the water, so we're land locked for a while now. Just bikes for entertainment.

  14. Yamaha appears to have switched from pushing/advertising their V-4 Royal Star whatever versions, and are now putting all their eggs into the old school V-2 basket. Is that what Yamaha research is stating: OHV, V-2, air cooled, belt drive, etc. is better than V-4, shaft drive, liquid cooled...?

  15. 1. How many 1st generations were sold in the USA & Canada?

    2. How many 2nd generations sold to the same locates?

Reason for questions: In all our travels we've only personally known 1 couple who owned a 1st generation, (that was about 10 years ago in Maine.) Up to and including today we personally know no one who ownes or has ever owned a 2nd generation. Seeing either version on the roads around here is almost never ever.

That's why we're here on this great site. To ask questions, and to learn all we can about the Venture and/or Tour Deluxe. We're very interested in these V-4 products.

  16. The wife and I enjoy both our privacy and a somewhat lively social life.

We'd rather meet people live and in person rather than what the internet is stating they are.

If there is a meet and greet and eat and ride that we'd be interested in, we'd chime in and show our interest; and hopefully meet others live and in person.

We are still both working but living in our second retirement community, making us toward the front of the boomers bus, but not front row.

Right now we have neither a Venture, or RSTD, or any Yamaha for that matter so we prefer to stay low profile at this particular site until we feel we actually belong. Right now the wife and my similarities to members here are that we're both avid bikers, we both own and ride motorcycles, we're both nice people, we're independent and not members of any bike clubs, often ride on weekends with four or five others, and hopefully someday we'll meet members here. Possibly we'll even own Yamaha's someday. We're about 80 miles from either coast of Florida, and that's the way we like it.

  17. I lived in Poway while in the Navy via NAS Miramar, so how is my old turf (Poway) doing? Poway = meeting place of the valley. That was over twenty years ago so the whole area is probably nothing that I remember.

But with my fond memories I hope all is well there.
