  1. Much appreciated but I'm not feeling very optimistic at this point. This forum has been awesome though....
  2. Having flooding issues but I believe it's not the carburetors themselves...I've cleaned/rebuilt (gaskets, needle/seats) them and adjusted the floats twice (now set on the low side). The problem seems related to temperature and only seems to happen when warm. After I'd adjusted floats today I thought the problem was solved until I took it for a test ride. Seemed to run great for a mile or so then started bogging and seemed sluggish. I figured with the flooding issues I'd been having that maybe I'd fouled a plug or two so I made a plan to change them when the bike cooled. Went in the garage 1/2 hour later and there's a puddle of fuel underneath it. I THINK it came from the bottom of the black canister on the left side near the carbs. I pulled the hose that runs from top of that canister to the left front carb and it was visibly wet. Anyone have any ideas, theories or have any interest in a Venture that has a bunch of new parts on it? I'm ready to roll it into a field and drop a match in the airbox....help.
  3. Thanks again for the help....hopefully this gets me started in the right direction....as frustrated as I've gotten it still looks like everything is pointing to at least 1 stuck needle valve!
  4. Looks like I'll need to change the oil, get it running and try and duplicate my issue. Will it be obvious where the overflows are on each carb? I apologize for my ignorance....but that's why I'm asking you guys!
  5. Casey, your theory seems possible to me....wonder why it would only be sticking when the bike is hot though?
  6. So is yours connected to a hose then instead of just being open?
  7. I sure hope someone has an idea.....leave it to me to have a problem that no one else on the planet has....if you know of anyone that may help could you pass them along??.
  8. Hi all, I'm the knucklehead that is having the warm start (not starting actually) flooding condition. Started it cold this afternoon and rode the crap out of it for 50 miles to cycle some Berrymans through it...it runs great until you shut if off and it sits for a few. I thought I had a stuck float but when I pulled my airbox lid it appears that all 4 carbs are dumping fuel....the fuel pump cycles (for whatever the safety cutoff allows) every time you cycle the key. Only seems to do it when the bike has been warmed up, then shut down for 10 or so minutes. It will continue to exhibit this until the bike has completely cooled down again. Last time I tried to start it when it was hot, I noticed this black nipple spewing fuel. The picture shows it's location which is just above and between the front cylinders. Anyone have any ideas??? So far you all have been awesome!!!
  9. Thanks Fly...if you locate Skydocs write up I'd sure appreciate a link to it!
  10. A few folks have recommended Berrymans Chemtool for what I'm hoping is a simple stuck float...unfortunately I looked up the product online and found numerous horror stories about how it ate holes through the bike and the garage floor like the Alien's blood in the movie. I'm looking for some of you guys that have actually used the stuff on your Venture and wondering what sort of results you've had. I started with Seafoam and I think I has actually dislodgd some debris and now the float is sticking....anyone like love/hate the stuff? Thanks in advance....your help so far on my VR journey has been great!
  11. Mileage was in the 30s last time I checked....bike also didn't seem to have much of an issue UNTIL I used Seafoam so I wonder if I dislodged something....
  12. Don't I know it....I actually hydro-locked the engine last weekend it had dumped so much fuel into the carbs and cylinders. Turned it over and WHACK...wouldn't turn over any more until i took out the spark plug and cranked it. Finally it started and bellowed smoke for several seconds. I was terrified I had bent something but after it cleared itself out, it ran fine.
  13. Gotcha....I think for some reason that the pump is dumping way too much fuel into the carbs when it's trying to warm start. The only reason that would be is if it's being told that theres not enough pressure? That's what makes me think of the floats sticking and not building pressure unless there's a sensor or something that I don't know about. I hope someone here can nail it down....
  14. I did try to push start it tonight...i don't think i was able to get up the kind of speed it needed and didn't cooperate at all. If it sits until cool again it hasn't had any issues. It's been sitting an hour now and I just cycled the key and the pump cycled again....
  15. Hi all, just paid my membership dues after spending the winter putting an 86 VR back together....looks great, sounds great and runs great until it gets good and warm. When starting from cold the fuel pump rarely clicks and the bike starts immediately. After its good and warm and I shut it down and let it sit for 10 minutes or so...turn on the ignition and the fuel pump cycles for several seconds and the bike is VERY hard to start if I'm able to get it started at all. You can smell raw fuel....if you turn the key off and back on the pump will continue to cycle several seconds every time the key is cycled. Do i have a stuck float(s) maybe? If I manage to get it restarted, it clears it's throat and runs fine again.....help....please.
