I am not really good at electrical work - but I have too many direct leads to my battery posts so I need to install and new mini blade fuse block with built in relay? I connect the positive lead of the block to my positive battery post using the correct gauge wire and then ground the block. I am not clear how to wire in the white switched lead that I read about in this forum? How does this connect? To the relay?
Can anyone give me a basic wiring diagram for this? Or point me to a place on this site where I can see a wiring diagram?
Thanks a lot

Thought some of you might find this interesting.
Two Americans fined $20,000 for not declaring 6 guns at the border into Canada
I thought the articles closing paragraph was "interesting"
"Outside, Barr was asked why they were carrying so many guns, and he said he’d heard that northern Canada was wild and dangerous — “a bit like it was in the old covered wagon days.”

I understood the K-40 antennas that are stock with the venture have a 3/8"-24 threaded base ?
I connected with the Firestik antenna company and they confirmed their attenna bases are all 3/8-24, male threaded
So i must be incorrrect? The Venture K-40 stock attennas cant have the same base - since one cant simply be removed and replaced with the firestik
Can someone tell me what the base thread is for the stock Venture K-40 attennas??
Thanks

I lost a front fork seal on a 3000 kilometer haul this spring over a 4 day period when I racheted the front end down tight.

Looks like I have to go abroad for 12 months
Any tips on storing a bike for 12 months.
Any issues with leaving it in cold storage?
Could get 25 degrees below zero in the winter.
Any tips or recommendations are appreciated

Thanks, I sent for a quote to get an ideal of the pricing. If I go for a trailer in the future, this would possibly be it. According to the price range though. Thanks for the post birin. I like the idea of using the car hauler box and being able to adjust somewhat. I went for the polish look and wheel locks and a 360 degree swivel hitch couple. I have my doubts here though, I am going to say that these trailers are expensive. And the only real downfall to me would be this, would this trailer rattle down the road a lot ? Since it is adjustable.
Fuzzy :thumbsup2:
I was wondering if you got a price for this unit yet?

Same approach but the trailer expands and contracts
Could haul a fiberglass box, golf clubs. bikes etc etc
Problem - more expensive

Any recommendations on the best light weight enclosed trailer to haul a venture?
Tried an open trailer this past year and the bike was a mess after every trip.
Need something that is fibreglass or light weight enclosed with some level of suspension. Lost a few bolts on the bike when hauling it on a trailer with no suspension. Looking at hauling the venture a few thousand miles every year behind a new 4 cylinder SUV

I have not been up since the Olympic improvements.
How long did it take to drive up?

Just got back to Oliver BC from Phoenix. Drove down and towed my motorcycle
Drove I-5 - Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, LA on the way down and Las Vegas, Salt Lake and Boise on the way back.
Did not like the snow at the pass in Southern Oregon on the way down. Had to buy chains (that I never used). If you have good weather the coast highway would be a nice trip if you stay off I-5
If I had to bike back - I thought the Vegas, Salt Lake, Boise up to Osoyoos was the best. Lots of open highway. Lots of bikes on the raod, Nice big wide open spaces.
It depends what you like - but I would do the west side of the grand canyon (new lookout that has a glass floor). Lots of motorcycles there two weeks ago. The Hoover dam would be your next spot. Then Vegas. Then through the open country up through the unique country up to Boise and Salt lake.
Just my thoughts.

Towed my venture down to Phoenix from Vancouver. On the return 2400 Km trip I stopped at a "Flying J" truck stop and bought 2 -3 foot firestiks that were on sale for $30.00 a pair. I tried to mount them but the thread base was the wrong size. Do you have to mod the venture attenna base? or do you have to buy a specific Firestik size?

I think, and I may be wrong, that one of the key features that was requested was the ability to communicate with other riders. Most of these Bluetooth suggestions do not address that issue. The fact is, MOST riders that communicate with each other still use CB radios.
If that is the case and you are looking for intercom between rider and passenger as well as the ability to talk to other riders in your group, I recommend the J&B CB/Intercom unit.
Not the cheapest solution but in my opinion, probably the best solution. Sierra is a great company to deal with and are actually cheaper than buying from J&M direct.
I am not sure the Venture integrated CB,voice and music system is really worth investing in. I would move towards the new Blue Tooth units. I say this for several reasons. The first is the amount of issues of road noise that you can read about in this forum. I like many others have had considerable problems. You read about all kinds of "fixes" like "Mike Mutes" to make the factory system work. The second reason is the antennas. Firestik (a supplier of antennas) will tell you 30% of your CB transmission is lost into the second "radio" antenna on the bike. If I were to start all over again - I would not connect to the antiquated Venture system. Surely the presence of a "tape deck" should give you a hint that nothing has been invested in the Venture audio technology for a decade .

I bought an 8 inch smoked Slipstreamer from HarbersCycle for under $65.
Awesome service and product. Other sizes are available
Looks great, nice height to just look over so it never causes a night concern.
Had no impact on the passenger with wind etc.
One of the better investments I have made. Riding with it for over a year now.

I just recieved the adapter from Edset and now have the bike radio and CB (no mike output for CB) But ties into my Collett communicators which my wife and I use bike to bike. Voice activated either of us talk or cell phone rings the radio is muted. Works great for us! Ken!
Ken
Did you pay $85 Canadian for the adapter and shipping?

I was plannig on buying the edsets adapter that converts the 5 pn to allow earbuds to be used.
The problem is that the unit is worth $55 and shipping is $23 ($29 with insurance)
I am up in Vancouver - and thought it may be worthwhile to ship to a USA address and have someone just mail them to me? It seems like such a small units and paying $25 seems crazy??
Any thoughts?

I just took them to a local muffler shop up the street. They expanded them in a matter of minutes for no charge
Worked well (I had to verify that if they over expanded it was not going to be their fault)

Made some minor mods. What do you think?

Odd - I got an online quote today for my 2004 midnight ($15,000 valuation) with no accidents or penalties for $400 at $1000 deductible and $444 for $500 deductible
Did you get $1000 or $500 deductible?
Might be that the rates in Vancouver are higher than the outlying suburbs.
BIRIN
nope, hadn't heard of them... I got info about M&F from another insurance office.I'm a little off on the ICBC rate I showed above ($988) as I was taking my current six-month monthly rate and multiplying it by 12 but I believe that if I were to pay up front, it would be $864. Not at home right now so can't check my paperwork.
So, I paid $392 for the M&F extra coverage but that's including any finance charges over a year .... it would have been $346 for the year if I'd paid it up front... and I get all the same coverages / deductibles as you mention.
-
Available in BC competing with M&F from Vancouver ISland
15000 agreed value
Riding gear 1000
Road Side 100
Rekeying 500
Deductible 500
Annual premium - $390 for non basic (as per details above)
ICBC basic premium 864
Total 1255 to ride for our short summer season
I just got the figures from ICBC for my insurance coverage on the scoot and full coverage with $1,000 deductible and max discount will run me $2,038 for the full year. Not being satisfied with that, I did some poking around because I knew that somewhere I should be able to get private insurance beyond the basic ICBC 200,000 PL&PD.
I found that I can get it from Coast Capital.
Quote Summary:
$455.00 ..... Annual Premium
$12,500 ..... Declared value of the bike
$500 ..... Declared value for riding gear
$400 ..... Declared value for helmets
$1 million Third party liability
$1,000 ..... Deductible
$40.57 ..... Monthly payment
This is for Collision, Comprehensive, and 3rd party liability to 1 million.
The policy also includes Travel Protection (if your bike is stolen or you are involved in accident away from home), Emergency Service Expense, and Lock Re-keying (if keys are stolen).
Additionally, if you only insure with ICBC for 6 month's, the Coast Capital becomes a "storage policy" with the exception of the liability which would not apply once the ICBC policy expires.
This is a substantial savings and I will definately be getting my extended insurance from them.

I got my lights today
I purchased the leather studded wraps from Chilhowee
http://www.chilhowee.net/saddlebag-guard-covers/080428001.html
I have the bag guards on my MIDNIGHT and the reflector is mounted on the bag guards - not the main stock bar at the rear.
I plan to simply run the wire under the leather wrap to the base of the bike and then into the battery box.
I see I have a red and and black wire on the new LEDs. Can anyone help with where these connect? What color is the primary running light wire- where does the RED LED ligt wire connect too ? And the black is simply ground?
Appreciate your help
