  1. Have you let the bike sit at all or are you riding it regularly? Even sitting 4-6 weeks with E10 and no stabil can potentially cause issues. Bad fuel or blends with higher than the posted E-content can drop mileage.

IR thermometer have a spot ratio- They vary between brands. I have a Raytek and the spot ratio is 1:12. IIRC from the instructions at 12" away its reading a 1" diameter area, thus at 6" its only a 1/2 in area at 24" its a 2" area, etc. Need to be sure you are reading the non chrome unsheilded part of each pipe, as mentioned, tough to do on the front.

I like to look for lean or dead cylinders starting from cold and using the spit and finger test (Spit keeps you from burning the finger). Live cylinders with pilot jets flowing properly will get hot enough to sizzle the spit usually in a minute or so after cold start up. If after a couple minutes you still have a cold or luke warm one (no sizzle) thats where you need to start looking.

My bike rarely ever sits for more than a week. It is my primary commuting vehicle, so no it hasn't set. Hope to get a chance this weekend. It is running great, just a surprising drop in mileage. Added some B12 carb cleaner, hopefully if there are any carb issues, this may help.

  2. 25th April..........yesterday to us!

Alan and I proudly wore medals for: My grandfather, father and uncle, and his father--and marched with the diggers at our local Anzac parade.

    THE ODE:

    They shall grow not old,

As we that are left grow old.

    Age shall not weary them,

    Nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning

    We will remember them

    LEST WE FORGET

Well I was in Alice Springs in 08 for Anzac day. Was pretty cool.

  3. My last two takes of gas, I have only gotten about 30 mpg in my 05 RSTD. I have consistently gotten 35-38 as long as I have had the bike. Changed plugs and air filters last year, oil is good, nothing different in the bike or riding styles.

Took a laser thermometer to measure the exhaust pipes right where the come out of the cylinders. The front two, which are hard to get a reading on because of the shielding, I think I got ~250. The rears I can see the actual pipe and got ~650 on each. Wondering if I just haven't gotten a good reading on the fronts, or if I am actually having some firing issues. Will pull the plugs and check, but wanted opinions on exhaust pipe temperatures.

  4. Looking for some help. I have an 05 RSTD with the quick disconnect windshield. I want to purchase the wide open plactics audio fairing and they say it uses the factory windshield mounts. After looking at the pictures on the web page they show an 05 RSTD with the fairing but the windshiled brackets are not the quick disconnect style. Does anyone know if the windshiled brackets for a 2001 RSTD will fit on the 2005 model? Any help would be great. The web page for the fairing is www.wideopencustom.com

Wouldn't think so. I bought a set of brackets from the classifieds on here from a fellow member and modified them to fit my Memphis Shades fairing.

  5. How many Ventureriders are currently on the darkside a.k.a rear car tire?

What front tire do you use?

    For informational purposes only.

    Not trying to start something.

PLease do not reply if you are not running on a rear car tire a.k.a. the darkside.

    Thanks Joe

    in my sig

  6. Four questions.

Where's the best place to get one?

What size do I need? 2007 second gen.

Whats the best MC front tire to use with the Kumho? (I like the dunlop 404) or will the dunlop elite II or III going to get me that much better milage?

I have 3/16 tread left on the Dunlop 404 rear and 5/32 on a Dunlop 404 front. Am heading to Florida in April to watch the launch... about a 3000 mi ride down and back...

So don't think they are gonna make it the whole way...

I"ve got a 155/80/15 BFG Radial TA on mine. Discount tire ordered and mounted it for me.

  7. I myself have tried the Time Out, and found that though a good camper it had no room for storage when set up, and was difficult to get to packed for travel. I have used an Aspen Classic which is similar in design to the Bunkhouse, but with the poles on the inside. It was a good setup also, but not mu cup of tea still. I then came to the Roll-A-Home which is somewhat similar to the Leisure, but with inside storage that can be easily accessed on the road. Hard floor, and off ground, inside out of sight storage, and one man setup in 2 to 3 minutes. Sturdy frame, and torsion suspension.

Have to disagree about storage with the time out. When set up there is a ton of storage inside the camper. There is an entire section with nothing in it. I also store stuff under the bed when set up. Lots of room.

  8. see very first post...quick release brackets from "Wayne"...........these will give you a set of black powdered coated legs that you then build from to attach the MS batwing....these legs merely fit over the existing mounting pins on your forks, they do NOT latch in as the OEM but rather engage enough so that they can not fly off, it would be very easy to incorporate a locking system if one wanted it.

and I did install a very quick locking system because I was worried about it. Shouldn't have been as it has never moved while installed.

  9. Okay so they both have the same link. Since my bike seem to handle pretty well for me;

How can I tell if it has the Leveling Link or the standard OEM link?

Today is my 3rd day with the bike. I bought it Saturday. Filled up, added some Seafoam and rode it 170 mile home. (42 mpg)

Sunday I adjusted the shocks some, rode a little filled back up with gas added some more Seafoam and cleaned a lot. Bike is running better every time I start it up. Gotta love Seafoam!

Today weather was iffy ( rain threatening) so I took the long way home from the dealer which was closed. 65 miles later I am back at home.

While at the closed dealers parking lot I took advantage of the situation and did some Low Speed Maneuvers while there. Was able to do some low speed 360,720, 1080 ,

figure 8's ...etc. (you get the idea)

I couldn't quit do the lock to lock but only because I could not reach full lock with the handle bars. I think I see a Flanders in my future.!!

So like I said, I am very happy with how she handle so far but if I can make it better I will be even happier...:big-grin-emoticon:

So back to my question... How do I tell if my link is OEM or a Leveling Link?

    Tom

You would probable have to measure them, and even then it would be close since they are only 1/4" different in lengths.

  10. You should be fine. I added some 55w aftermarket lights, heated grips and heated vest during the winter and never had any issues.

Should also add that my stock battery lasted until this year (5 years) and didn't actually crater, just one day this summer when it was really hot, and I stopped and restarted it in a short span of time, it had a hard time turning over, so I bought a replacement to not get stranded.

I have a short commute to work (8 miles) and typically don't rev the motor real high.

    YMMV.

  11. I drove both the Challenger R/T and the 2011 Mustang GT and I liked them both, but the wife like the Camaro the best. I liked them all, and probably the Challenger the most based on styling, but it is definately the slowest, unless you step up to the SRT8 and it is quite a bit more expensive.

  12. My son is turning 16 this weekend, so he is inheriting the 1999 Jeep Wrangler that I use for bad weather transportation. I am getting my wifes 2004 GMC Sierra for my bad weather vehicle and the wife got...

Its a 2011 Camaro SS/RS SS2, manual 6 speed with sunroof and factory Hurst shifter. Not a bad little commuter.
