  1. Thanks guys I replied twice on this forum through the quick reply but it does not work for me so here I go a third time..... Thank you all for the advice and opinions, and thank you for the info on Pioneer Motorsports. I do most if not all of my parts shopping in the US and have a US address for this. I am sorry for my late response as I have been in the shop starting to put the bike together as I have it down to a bare frame, lots of cleaning painting and time to rebuild. I think I am going to keep an eye on these tires as I rebuild and may even run them the first few miles locally but I do know they will be changed in less than a month of riding as I will be placing new for my summer trip. The sole purpose of this tight budget rebuild is that I took a voluntary lay off from work due to work shortage to ride across the country. This bike came on a trade for work I provided on the previous owners lexus who I found on an internet classified site. This bike needs to be reliable and trustworthy and I am confident with proper materials, my skill set, and advice from experienced individuals, that everything will work out fine. I am good at what I do, have job offers almost weekly, but am humble enough to ask for and smart enough to take advice from those that know this product more than I do. This forum is a valuable resource. By the way the tires are 10 years old stored indoors their whole life.
  2. Good news, title is in my hand, I officially own a venture....... No w to move on further in this project. Gotta start searching database for info on second gear concern vin cut off date etc...
  3. I have to agree that it is best to go with new tires. Now that I know the elites are a good choice I will have to find a new set. I will do this last on my build and this should give me time to find a deal on them.
  4. Hey guys I would like to hear opinions on a concern that I may or may not have about tires. I am an automotive tech and know well about automotive tires but have come across a concern I am unsure of. I have a venture that I have acquired that I am resurrecting and on tear down I have noted the tires are dunlop elites with white raised lettering still covered with the blue coating. These tires look near new and have been stored indoors, I see not indication or cracking or damage. They do not show age, still have the little tits all over. The compound still lets me squeeze the tread and seems reasonably pliable. I have looked at the production date and they have some age to them. I have checked online and found more than one site stating there is no recommended replacement age as I have noted in automobile tires. I do know if they were not in direct UV light the rubber will last longer and that motorcycle tires are built much more rigid and in my opinion better than automotive tires due to the thicker sidewalls for use in cornering. So I ask would any of you trust tires that look near new, are still pliable but have an early production date? Secondly if these elites are not decent quality tires please feel free to mention it as maybe they would be better recommended to toss rather than concern myself of the age? If age don't matter maybe they would be better run until a concern is noted? I am still new to riding and am on a tight budget with this project but safety is more important than anything else. Comments and opinions please and if possible the reasons why........
  5. Sure looks close if not exact. I guess I won't be the only one in that color. Maybe a little different with the black out I hope to accomplish...
  6. Okay guys, I have the sellers RX300 in my shop as I type this. Tomorrow I will do my part of the trade and get the title in my hand. I already had the itch on the venture and have it torn down to the frame and engine meaning ALL body components removed and making a list of items needed. I suppose I will have to take some pics of it at this stage and as I work through it then post them. I have pulled and flushed the fuel tank and pulled the cooling system components to get access to the starter that I tore apart, cleaned up and lubricated to correct the slow crank problem. I pulled the carbs apart and cleaned them and now the bike starts quickly on crank. I also straightened the lower crash guards as I was in the general location. I have gone over the wiring and and removed the stereo, intercom, antenna and also am returning the cooling fan to stock operation as someone had it bypassed to a switch. I want everything to work correctly or better. Should I start a new thread on this resurrection? Maybe compile a bunch of pics and then post all info at the same time? Well one way or the other I will start investing in the project after I have title. The only thing I have invested in so far is the paint. It will be synergy green and I have put aside the idea of two tone. Now I am contemplating powder coat on some items..... I will be poking my head in on and off as I keep busy in the shop.
  7. Yes the pic of the above venture is very close to my virago which was my first project bike. My color is atomic orange from the Z06 Corvette. I bought the virago in Oct 2013 as scrap that had sat in a shed for 24 years, rebuilt it from ground up and started riding in April to roughly 8000 km. My wife wanted no part of bike so I bought a very clean one owner virgin Harley fxrs and was going to use the Harley for my 2015 year ride but a few months after that purchase my wife asked to ride with me and now has a growing interest as a passenger. With her change of heart and my craving a cross country solo road trip on limited funds I decide to get a bike that she can ride on with me that will be larger for her comfort and my solo trip. With my first yamaha project being so positive I thought I would repeat my course of actions and see if lightning strikes twice. I did not have my venture at first but found a goldwing as a worst case scenario. I am a tall guy and I find the venture is a better fit and better for my needs so the wing was cast aside. I am acquiring the venture on trade as payment for a full tune up and installation of a timing belt and water pump on a lexus rx300. I will have no cash invested in this trade only labor and that will allow me to drop about $1500 in parts into the venture for a full rebuild, thank you online auctions. My labor is a labor of love and to know that it is rebuilt correctly to not have problems when I am half way across the country. Pegasus I believe you are correct as the green is really growing on me and it is a current color so the bike will look newer. I am undecided if I will reinstall the chrome from my royale as it in my opinion has a little too much for a color as that. My venture seems to have more chrome on it than most pics I have seen. I prefer a blacked out treatment over the chrome and I think I will be removing the stereo and intercom as I would rather use my blue tooth equipment and would like to place a waterproof pocket where the radio is currently to hold my cell phone and a charging dock. I will respectfully post pics once the bike is done but right now it is too embarrassing. Please anyone else feel free to chime in as my mind is wide open until I start the prep work and order the paint. Besides the previous owner of my venture still is waiting on parts for his lexus and I want to finish my end of the trade prior to investing in the bike.
  8. Thanks for the replies and pics. It gives me a great idea of what might look good to me on these bikes. My original thought was to paint it orange as my previous bike but I wanted something different. As I was looking through a book of paint chips I had one color stick out and it caught my eye. It comes on the 2010 Camaro SS and it is called synergy green 708S. I find it bright for visibility and feel that with the black on a venture it will reduce the boldness of the color. If I choose to go with this color I am still undecided if I will try to two tone it or stripe it with another color or not. The next concern is if I will need to change my seat color from brown or not to make the bike look right. So many thoughts on this.... Opinions on this? I am trying to see the big picture and not just a small part of it.
  9. If I have posted in the wrong area or this question has been asked before please excuse my ignorance as I did not find it in the search function. My question is as a new venture owner who is custom resurrecting an 85 royale, what would the rarest colors be for a bike as this? I do not mean only factory optioned colors as I have found that information but maybe a color no one really sees a lot of even on a forum as this. I have searched as much as I can with google and other search engine but they pretty much limit me to stock bike configurations. I would like my bike to stand out and am trying to decide on a color that not many else have. I have one in mind but am doing my research first. I have done the same thing on my last project and painted a 1984 virago the atomic orange color from a 98 corvette. It turned out well and I have received a lot of compliments so I am hoping to achieve the same results with my new project but want to use a different color.
