  1. Sorry that I went away for so long. I stopped riding and sold one of my bikes. I still have my Feb 1984 bike.

Venturefar, sorry I did not return you call for several years. You called me right after I just got in a car crash and I kept forgetting to call you back. Just found your message when I was going through voicemails.

Puc, how has it been brother. I hope all is well and that your health concerns are out of the way for a while.

Anyone else I met at the Dales OR. Several years ago, sorry I ghosted for so long. I am going to get my 84 back on the road soon. If you are in the Vegas area, hit me up to ride.

  2. Well I'll be horn swoggled..!! I just received an email from Yamaha and they are going to have one of the new 'tourer's' available for a test ride at a dealer right here in River City... Yep, Roseville Yamaha is on the list for Aug 18/19. There's going to be one close enough that I'll be able to make it water cooled... :whistling: My right knee is actually been feeling fairly good lately. Maybe I'll ride the '04 Venture/Voyager over to take a look...

If you have an MK1, you should ride that over there. I will be riding my 84 to test ride the 18 whenever one gets semi close to me. show everyone where the bike came from.

  3. As for the knives, I used to buy and sell a lot of them. Usually kept a couple hundred at a time. Mostly new stuff and I had accounts with all the major distributors and bought some directly from the manufacturers. Started out on the cheap selling Parker Frost Japanese knives. They actually weren't bad knives and were coming out with new "collections" almost every month. From that though, I got into the higher end knives and sold a lot of Case, Puma, Boker Tree Brand, Hen & Rooster, and my favorite, Fight'n Rooster.

I was working at a power plant in Texas at the time. Every morning I would get to work early and would have three or four knife rolls with me. There were several hundred people working there and they would come in when I was sitting in the break room before work and drinking coffee and ask "what do you have today". I would unroll the knives and they would start picking through them. Sold a LOT of knives during those days.

When I left that job, I also left that customer base so sold most of my remaining stock to another guy that I worked with and I assume that he kept the business going.

Over the years, I have gradually sold or given away the ones that I had hung onto. I may have 6 or 7 laying around now but nothing really worth anything.

Where in Texas did you work? The only reason I ask is because my dad worked at TU Electric in Glen Rose TX when I was very young.

  4. Yeah, I got the notification about needing to pay dues last week. I was being lazy about logging on and doing it.

So today I was riding my 84 and decided to stand up and see just how comfortable it is (puc's favorite riding position according to his video). It was quite comfortable, but I have a back rest on my bike that fell forward. So I no longer had a seat. I tried a few things to get the seat rest up before finally thinking that I could stop in front of my house and just straddle it and lean left a little more than normal. So half way through that idea I find myself stepping off my bike completely. Luckily no neighbors saw me. Of if they did, they haven't said anything yet.

On the upside hoping on to pay the $5 was a perfect time to pay my dues. So you all are stuck with me for 1 more year.

  5. :worthless:!!!!!!!

Just incase this was for me, here are some pics to hold the hounds off until I get back from Texas and get some good pictures and a video or two.

Her trailer and hitch are in front of her. I will be installing the hitch when I get home after doing some slight modifications to it.

  6. Well, I leave in two days and have all but decided to take my car. I want to take the bike, but my left arm has been hurting for a few weeks now. I think I may have a pinched nerve in my shoulder. Pulling the clutch in is kind of painful in traffic.

Taking the car also allows me to help the wife out by taking the bad kid with me. That will at least give my wife a peaceful ride to Texas in the Van. I am coming back 2 weeks before them, so the ride back will still be tough.

When I get back, I will do a pretty long ride out to an old abandoned town where Puc and Tippy took refuge 2 or 3 years ago so I can look for their artwork. After all, Genesis has been asking to stretch her legs for a week now.

  7. I haven't left yet. I am leaving Monday. It will still be hot which still makes me nuts. I am riding to and from work everyday day this week to make sure the bike is good to go.

"Genesis" is one smooth lady. I might head north before I make my return trip. It will depend on how tired I am.

  8. Got my 84 completely put back together again. I realized while putting it together that I can flip the shifter and make it GP shifting (1 up 5 down). That is how I like to run my sport bikes. I need to get the handle bars and pegs adjusted perfectly for me.

Since she has been down for 2 years, I figured I would welcome her back to the road with a trip from Las Vegas NV to Ft Worth TX. I leave in 7 days. Even with the 112 degree temperature today, I had a blast riding. I will be riding to and from work all week just to try and catch as many bugs as possible before I get hundreds of miles from home.

I apparently like leaning left more too. I will get rid of the rear strips once I put the bike back together. I pretty much just got her a few years ago and rode her from South Dakota to Nevada and only took her on a couple rides before her battery died. I then left her dead for about 6 months and then got deployed for a year. I have been back and working on her for about 6 months now. So she has been down for 2 years. I will treat her right and scrape some engine and bag guards soon.

I'll post pictures after my Texas trip in 2 weeks.

  10. I had an MK1 and a 2nd gen. My wife suggested I thin the herd until after I retire from the military and I sold my 2001. I will never get rid of my MK1. Yamaha messed up big time on that bike. They meant to make a touring bike, but that was before the Star line. All they knew was sport bikes, so they slapped some bags and a trunk on a vicious little (almost 900lbs) street demon.

In 5 years when I retire from the Air Force, I will let you know what I think about MK2s and possibly the 3rd gen. I will probably buy another 2nd gen, and definitely buy a few more MK1s.

  11. The shipping on it was free, but as you can see from the map below, I have never ridden in Michigan, so I might just come up for the company, some good riding, and hot dogs.

Right now I am getting her ready for a trip to Texas, so Michigan will have to wait a little while.
