  1. Thanks for the feedback guys. My bike is a 96 RSTC/XVZ13AT(sorry I left that out). Any recomendations as to best place to buy tires? I want to replace front and rear. Also does anyone know where the best place in Jacksonville FL. I should go to and how much it will cost to have the new tires mounted and ballanced?

  2. 1.Ok I have decided to replace the tires on my 96 RSTC so I am open to sugestions and vendor information. The tires on it have less than 1k miles but they are the original tires, so for safty sake I am going to change them.

2.Since I have never delt with the finaldrive/shaft drive can someone provide a step by step instruction so I will know what to expect. Also is there anything I should do while I have it apart in regard to maintenance.

Again thanks to the members that have always provided good feedback to my questions on this AWSOME site. :fingers-crossed-emo

  3. Well today I had a chance to take her on our first ride. ( no tag yet so I only rode 3 miles). I was right this is a great bike. As an up date since I bought the bike; I did buy a new battery, changed oil and filter, new air filter, changed final drive lube, rebuilt carbs, cleaned tank. cleaned bike end to end to include taking front fender all leather items off and windshield and wind deflectors. I cleaned until I was tired of it then the next day I cleaned some more. Like I said it has less than 1K miles on her but it sat for 10 years in a shed so tires are in the near future for safty sake. I love my bike and if I knew how I would post pictures for everyone to see just how good a deal I got. I am a HAPPY Man! Thanks for all the help.

  4. Thanks for the feed back.I drained the system and changed the coolant. Today was a very productive day. Synked the carbs. finished cleaning the tank and put everything back in place. Still need to work on hydraulics. No front brakes or clutch. I rebuilt the calipers and they worked fine with comprressed air so I think I need to order new lines and master cylinders. Any recomendations? Oh yea I will be joining the site, I have just spent all my time working on the bike, can't wait.

  5. Please bear with me I'm new to the Yamaha world. Is there a specfic antifreeze that should be used in a 96 RSTC? I reworked the carbs , changed the oil and filter, the final drive lube. About ten min. ago I fired it off for the first time since I bought it and man it sure does sound sweet. A friend has a carbtune toolset so next I will sync the carbs (thanks to info from this site) and change the coolant. Should be able to put eveerything back in place after that and go for a ride. This is an awsome feeling. My barn find is turing out OK so far.

  6. Ma and Pa were sitting on the front pourch remembering the last 50 years since being married. Ma says, Pa I am going to get me a glass of iced tea would you care for one, Pa answers no thank you.

When she returns Pa has a big tear running down his face. Ma says, Awe thats sweet , what made you cry?

Pa says, Remember when your daddy caught us in the barn and with a shotgun in his hand he said I had to make you an honest woman or he would have me put in jail for 50 years, Ma answered yea.

Pa said the thought came to me that (Wait for it) :322::grandma:

  7. Aftter reading all I could find on carbs I decided to take mine apart and clean them. Just like Bob talked about in his write up they were a nice shade of brown varnish. Got them cleaned up. and all the passages cleaned. While putting secound /right one togather the screw that goes on the bowl end of the diaphram neddle broke off. I removed the pin and was able to get the threaded portion of the screw out with a small easyout. Problem now is where do I get a replacement screw. The parts manual indicates part number 1HV14565-00-00. the exploded view of the dissassembley chart calls it a needle jet cover. Does anyone have one they are willing to part with or can tell me where I can get one. Many thanks in advance. Oh yea, bike is a 96 Royal Star Touring Classic (the barn find I told you guys about in my last thread when I said Hi to all.

  8. Today was a good day. I got the oil and filter changed as well as the final drive lub. I will try the seafoam/gas solution as recomemded. I also removed the right front caliper and took it apart , cleaned it and put it back on. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the left front and rear done. A bit of good news I pulled the plugs last Wednesday and put some Marvel Mistery oil in each cylinder. I did not have time until today but when I hooked the charger up and hit the start button the starter spun the engine with very little effort. I will do a compression check as soon as I finish the items I have started. Can someone advise as to what the compresion should be on each cylinder. Thanks for the replys.

  9. My name is David (aka Summer Breeze). I never put much stock in claims of "Barn Finds" until now. Last week I found and bought a 1996 Royal Star Touring Classic. The guy I bought it from said it had around 1200 miles on it and it had been sitting in a shed for the last ten years. When I got it home and hooked up the battery charger, turned on the key and the OD reads 987. It needs some work, front and rear calipers are frozen up as well as the master cylinders, battery has to be replaced, clutch master cylinder will not pump fluid, throttle will not rotate and I am sure the carbs will have to be rebuilt at the very least. I am new to the worls of Royal Stars and have not been on a bike since I sold my Gold Wing seven years ago after Heart Surgery. Would appreicate any guidance as to best place to buy parts and get feed back on just buying a set of used carbs in bolt on condition. I wold post pictures if I knew how. Any and all help would be very appreicated. Thanks in advance!
