There's no five year warranty here in Australia so you either put up with the whine or take a chance and pay for the fix yourself.

The local Yamaha stealer wanted $450 for a new "I" basket before installation.

I purchased one from boats.net in Florida which arrived here in Perth within a week and it only cost me $227 plus postage $40. My local mechanic charged me $100 for the install.

Just gave it a test ride and the whine is totally gone. This is a cheap option compared to looking for another bike.

Mine is a 2004 model and the clutch basket removed is a "G" variation.

I can now turn the radio down a couple of notched and listen to that V4:happy34:

My understanding of the 5 years warranty top side is - you only get 2 years Yamahahaha warranty and an insurance company takes over the other 3. A bit like buying extended warranty on your TV or PC. The manufacturere may have a 2 years warranty and you can opt for the extension. That's not done through the manufacturer, but a third party insurance company. I know - I've used it.

Still reckon you should have put the after-market pipes on it Steve.

I did, and I only have to crank the radio up to 17 instead of 15 on the highway.

Not too worried about the whine (or any high frequency noise for that matter) as my hearing range doesn't extend that far any more. A fact of ageing.

So, how you been mate? You've been sending some nasty weather over here lately.

Only got to 14 degC today - wet and windy.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I just realised - this is post #666 for me.

(The devil made me do it!)

1 2 ride RSV

Don't know if your whine is covered or not.

You post no picture of your bike or year.

Thats kinda important.

2004 or newer it should still be covered under warranty.

I bought mine used and the warranty was good for 2 more years.

I got quite a few things fixed and most were not cheep.............Ron

Not all but there are a few dealers that try and lie and cheat us.

My dealer was a GREAT dealer in Stillwater,MN

http://www.centurypower.com/

Told me straight up that all things on the bike were covered under warranty.

Front to back bottom to top and never cost me a dime.

They even replaced screws and nuts that had vibrated loose.

I know not all dealers are that good to there customers (SAD)

Good luck on your quest 1 2...........................Ron
