89 Xvz1300 Won't Start

That would most likely be because the battery acid level sensor (the probe that went in one of the middle battery caps) isn't installed any more. If your new battery is a sealed unit you don't need it any more. Here's how to get the light to be off...

 

Buy or acquire a resistor with a value of between 1000 ohms and 4000 ohms. Connect the wire going to the probe to one end of the resistor and insulate it. Connect the other end of the resistor to the accessory line somewhere, probably best on the fuse block, look for an accessory connection or hook up to the "blue line" for the lights. You could also connect it directly to the battery plus terminal but then it would be drawing a small amount of current all the time, and after a few weeks unattended your battery would wear down. The battery symbol and flashing red light should go out...

 

DO NOT connect the probe directly to 12 volts, you may burn out your CMS!!! The resistor is needed as the circuit IC is looking for around 5 to 8 volts logic level voltage...
