carbs 07 rsv

Recommended Posts

well I'm trying to dial my carbs in, and have run into a problem. I've removed them, installed 17 pilot jets (15 is stock), opened each pilot air screw 1/4 T, and installed 1/2 sized ( not full thickness)small shims on 3 of the needles. Then broke 1 of the small tabs off , on the 4th slide. (that holds the needle in) These things are PLASTIC! anyway, waiting on the new slide, from yami. If any carb guru's can lead me in the right direction.........? how sensitive to small changes are these carbs? pilot screw- 4 idle only? pilot jet for idle to mid? vacuum operated slides and needle for mid to high R's? I have k+n filters , iridium plugs, dyna 3000, and rush slash cut slip-on pipes. 90 degrees outside, full choke, long warm up. very very very small lag off idle when opening the throttle. 42 mpg + hwy. she's been cold blooded since new , but a bit worse after the 4 performance upgrades mentioned. Advise? I know sell the bike? , clawed ......my needles had a shim on top and at the bottom. (stock) should I put the half sized shim on the needle first or the larger stock one on first? Who's on first? .........OK, anyone that tackles this job , be very careful with the plastic vaccum pistons, and needles. When reinstalling the needles, hold the piston, insert the needle pin, install the spring on the holder plug, the push the needle up to access it, hold the needle, slowly mate the spring with the top of the needle, keep some pressure on the needle, and let it slide through your fingers, until the holder plug meets the locking tabs. (press it in and check the needle for play) 18 miles on it today, it starts better, runs as good or better, in the midrange, and still runs great on the top end. Very smooth......and I still need to do a sync! I'll check the mpg, on the next tank of gas. DON'T BE AFEARED ......JUST DO IT!
