Great White Posted May 16, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 16, 2015 Here's the story: Swapping an 86 cluster into my 83. Figuring out the wiring change is no trouble for me, but my 83 only has a neutral indicator and the 86 has gear postion. So I need the sensor from the crankcase for gear position. Anyone got one they are willing to part with? Cheap?
flyday58 Posted May 17, 2015 Share #2 Posted May 17, 2015 I got one off ebay for $15.50, shipping included. Did the same swap you're doing.
Great White Posted May 17, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted May 17, 2015 I got one off ebay for $15.50, shipping included. Did the same swap you're doing. Any words of advice on the swap or it just tracing wires and changing ends terminals?
flyday58 Posted May 17, 2015 Share #4 Posted May 17, 2015 I bought an 84 cruise harness (41R) by mistake, about the first thing I got for the bike restoration. So it had the connection for the gear position indicator already. For me it was plug-and-play. My cluster is either an 84 or 85, don't remember which. But once the harness was in I just had to do the indicator swap. If you've messed with the clutch slave cylinder at all you know it's tight in there. But it's do-able. Great White Posted May 17, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted May 17, 2015 (edited) Bought a used indicator off ebay for 18 buck plus shipping. Cost more for shipping than it did for the indicator....just one of the costs of living in Canada.... Has a crack in part of the plastic at one of the screw points, but a little light work on the lathe and I'll have a better than new retainer for the assembly.
