Probably a previous owner used the #4 sync screw to set the idle, and now everything is messed up. Don't ask me how I know of such things....
van avery Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Welcome to the site. THis will be the best $12 you will spend. The temp on an 83 seems to always show hotter than I liked but from what I read it seems to be more that the temperature indicator on 83's seem to show high normally (close to the red). It did on the two I had. Try a little "wetter water" in the cooling system It helped a little. Need to do testing to find out weather its the regulator/ rectifier or the stator thats bad. Maybe either or both. Check pages 7-9 thru 7-11 in the service manual. http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/index.cfm Make sure the connections from the stator to the R/R are good. Others have installed a manual switch to turn on the fan earlier. There was a post a couple years ago about a lower temp fan switch but I could not find it available anywhere ( believe it was out of production). Good luck with your new ride.
Walnutz Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 needed someone to come to my home and sync my carbs
