TheCoffsKid Posted March 24, 2014 Share #1 Posted March 24, 2014 Hi, This is a continuation of an old thread called "The next challenge." The last post had the tacho mounted on top of the OEM instrument cluster ( forever called OEM from now on) in working order. It looked a bit out of place, so the plan was to try and sink the tacho into the OEM. By my measurements there is not any room to mount the tacho so that both screen are flush, so the tacho has to be moved back at least 2 inches. I think this will create problems with the screen, but I'll leave it till later. I'll post some photos so you can see what's what. Cheers,
TheCoffsKid Posted March 24, 2014 Author Share #2 Posted March 24, 2014 Ok this is how it looked when first mounted.
TheCoffsKid Posted March 24, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted March 24, 2014 Next is to take off the OEM and see what's underneath. As you can see once the cover is off there's not much to it.
TheCoffsKid Posted March 25, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted March 25, 2014 These photos show the reverse of the tacho
TheCoffsKid Posted March 25, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted March 25, 2014 Ok, so now we cut the cover of the OEM and make a Darth Vader mask
ACE50 Posted March 25, 2014 Share #6 Posted March 25, 2014 I'd attempt this if that speedo wasn't so expensive, seeing as I already have a different one mounted there. It should look good.
TheCoffsKid Posted March 25, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted March 25, 2014 Hi, I was lucky enough to get just the cover/top of the OEM on ebay as well as the tacho, but they were in the US and I'm in OZ so freight was quite a bit. The thinking being if I stuff it up (odds on) or the tacho doesn't work then I can just put the new cover/top on and call it quits. TheCoffsKid Posted March 26, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted March 26, 2014 Righto, now to fit the whole tacho I have to Make Darth Vader yawn, and with an aluminium cutting disk I can. Next step is to mount it onto the OEM internals.
TheCoffsKid Posted March 26, 2014 Author Share #9 Posted March 26, 2014 Eureka! it fits, now I will put lots of blue tack under the OEM and re-fit it and see how much room there is left underneath. I will also reconnect the tacho and make sure everything works. Cheers,
