aedlee Posted October 4, 2013 #1 Posted October 4, 2013 i have an 83 venture I lost the speedometer a while ago. It started jumping so I lubed the cable, thinking it was running dry. It stopped for a bit, then it started again. This time it started making a loud noise also. Then quit working all together. I removed the dash to find the inside drum on the speedometer was broke. So i purchased a used one because that speedometer is now obsolete. Well it worked for a year, and then started doing the same thing. So again I have no speedometer, and the used ones are very pricey. Any ideas on retro or how to reslove this issue
Prairiehammer Posted October 4, 2013 #2 Posted October 4, 2013 No ideas on retro. You are just gonna have to keep finding/buying the used OEM. BUT, there are plenty examples of speedometers that have recorded more than 100,000 miles and are still functioning. Get another low mileage speedo and lube the speedometer itself (not just the cable).
